  1. The Nizo Pro with the 7-80 is indeed significantly better than the 8-64 BUT the 6-66 is SLIGHTLY better than the 7-80 (my appreciation) In both cases with a 1k tungsten spot at 2 meters was f5.6. Also tested with half shutter and 2 stops overexposed for compensation. Outdoors between f2.8 and 11. I must say that the real time slow-motion 24 to 70 fps of the Beaulieu is AMAZING :o Almost no change in exposure with the automatic iris. They are just fantastic cameras ;)
  2. Michael I followed your advise on the top 30 Super 8 cameras list and I can tell you this: I made a test with 1 single roll of 64T: first I shot a color chart, an aligment chart and a zoom chart with a Beaulieu f1.9 8-64 lens. Then I repeated the same with my Nizo Pro along with some exterior shots with the built-in 85 daylight filter. I processed the roll and projected it: The difference between the Nizo and the 1.9 8-64 Beaulieu was....like 5th position versus 15th position !!!! Your tests were right, I then sold that Beaulieu for another 4008 Beaulieu this one with the f1.8 6-66 Schneider lens and did some tests again... I must admit that lens is superior to the Nizo. Also the gillotine shutter and super bright and wide viewfinder are awsome. :o Still, the noise factor, automatic B exposure, German made Nizo has an edge over the french Beaulieu for me. They both have their plus, you just need both for different uses... ;)
  3. Nizo Professional :) Beaulieu 4008 ZM II w/1.8 6-66 Schneider lens :D
  4. I need to understand this Michael: How in the world can you shift the axis of a lens on a 4008 without drilling into the body of the camera and move it in order to center it in respect to the new center of the 16/9 gate ???
  5. Here is a link to some time lapse I did in Sept. in Iceland with my Nizo Pro and Ekta 64T. Home lab and poor uplaoad but this would probably be the best camera to acheive your needs.
  6. I have a Nizo Pro and here are a few examples of time lapse/pixilation done with it. Sorry for the poor upload ! I highly recommend this camera...
  7. Sold in less than 4 hours ! I will have my Nizo 6080 enterely CLA for sale next month
  8. Sold in less than 4 hours ! I will have my 6080 enterely CLA for sale later next month and post the link

  10. My favorite camera is for sale . Here is the link. http://cgi.cafr.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...E:IT&ih=008
  11. For me the worst ever camera is this Kodak Ektasound piece of ...that would jam film, even break it, consume batteries like a carnivore. The lens with an approximate focus and a wopping 3x zoom ! Man I did shoot my first sound movie with it back in 74.
  12. Very nice... for 220 volts ! Try to use it in North America for fun !
  13. I bought 20 cartridges from Kodak Canada in Montréal (10x Ekta 64t 5x 200T and 5x 500T) in August 2007. I just tested my latest acquisition a Beaulieu 4008 ZM II with a roll of 64T and had no problem at all. Actually I tought while loading it in my Lomo tank for home processing how easy it was to un-wind it. Keep you posted on the other 19 rolls...but I encounted jaming problems earlier on this past June with 64T while performing dissolves with my Nizo Pro wich ususally is flawless at 24fps or less.
  14. In Canada there is only one place that I know: Niagara in Toronto http://www.niagaracustomlab.com
  15. Confirmed and extensively experienced: Nizo Professional exposes the 64T perfectly due to its wedge that reads ASA 25 to 160
  16. I have found M. Beaulieu of Loraine, Québec, Canada. He has been servicing still and movie cameras for 40 years. He did a fabulous job on my Nizo Pro and restoring a 4008 ZMII right now plus the 6080. Here is a link: http://www.makisoft.net/universel-photo The only thing is he takes the time, wich is fine if you are now in a hurry....
  17. Thanks for the enlightment Jim. I just bought a 6080 on EBay: my thech has it now for overhaull, replacing the belts among other things and I was worried about the voltage. I have a spare acu-box that I can load either with 6x1.5 alcaline or 6x1.2 rechargeable. I tested it with used alcalines and it seemed fine. :)
  18. I have a better knowldge of AVID software with the Region Stabelize or the Stabelizer Effect. The stabelized shot will loose as much information (E.G. will be cropped) as it is unstable. If it is just a little shaky caused by the registration pin or a bad cassette you will loose about 5%. The effect however is a little weird....because you are used to some life in the image and that is removed by those effects. You cannot use these on a panning or zooming shot. I guess FCP uses the same type of plug-in as AVID. Just make some off-line tests. Good luck !
  19. Correction ! A 1.25 transfer to 1.33 reduces the gate to 3.76 x 5 mm = 18.80 square So the difference is really 1.45 mm square film of definition.
  20. Here are my toughts about his. The normal exposed Super 8 frame is 4mm x 5mm, a ratio of 1.25 , 20mm square of exposed film. A 16/9 ratio applied to a super 8 gate should then be 4mm X 7.08 mm wide. That is impossible, the sprocket holes are 2 mm wide. To achieve a real 16/9 ratio in Super 8 you have to widen the gate to 6 mm and crop to 3.375mm the height at transfer. Now this only gives you a total of 20.25 mm square film... a big 0.25 mm of difference from normal ! But you get the 16/9 ratio.
  21. I do own a 6080 but it is in overhaul now. You can get a manual on the web, just type Nizo 6080 instruction manual on Google, you'll get it. Also there is a second adjustment ring on the right hand side of the camera that you can use to over/under expose the film:check the manual. JB
  22. This is my recent experience. I was doing a documantary in Florida. I got 16 rolls of 200T from Spectra shipped by FEDEX to Montreal, Canada. I don't know if it was X_RAYed or not even if it was labeled with DO NOT X_RAY stickers all over the box. I took the films, went thru security in MTL, they refused to hand check. I had to got thru US Custom and Secutity at Pearson in Toronto: again the refused the hand check. I shot the film, FEDEX it from Florida to LA with the DO NOT X_RAY labels. Again no idea if it wasX-RAYed. All the rolls came out PERFECT... At every airport I saw warnings about photographic films to be removed from lugage. The equipment used for lugage X_RAY does irreversible damage, but I guess those uded for hand lugage does not...
  23. Your Nizo 6080 will expose this stock perfectly since it reads ASA 25 to 400. Set your filter to tungsten (bulb) thus bypassing the 85B filter wich you do not need since this is a B&W emulsion. This specific Super 8 cartridge will automatically bypass your filter. (note that there is no notch on the lower part below the gate) The lightmeter of this camera (if it has been serviced recently) should give you a very good reading. If you can though, read the light for a specific shot at the AUTO position than set the diaph. to FIX in order to expose the film without any slight opening or closing of the diaph. Repeat for next shots. It is difficult to use this technique for a panning or a travelling shot. Use the auto setting then. Of course a lightmeter is always better: you just need the exact exposure times for the film speed at wich you will be shooting.
  24. Hello to all of you super 8 junkies out there. Just a little word on rewinding carts experience. With super 8 I guess it all depends on the cassette itself and I am starting to believe that those Ektachrome 64T are somehow thicker emulsion and cheaper produced therefore more difficult to rewind and that those Vision 200T and 500T beeing thinner are easier to rewind but also desing for a more professional use. I just shot a roll of Ekta 64T fresh from Kodak Canada Montreal with my Nizo Pro completely serviced in May 2007 thus in perfect working order and a dissolve shot at 24fps after at least 20 secs of pre-roll just jammed the cassette. Had to stop shooting and all. I processed the film myself and then...I could'nt get those first 20 secs out of the cassette for processing, they were jammed in there but I did not know until I finished processing realising I was missing 6 feet or so .... I openned the cartridge ( I process by pulling out the film from the cartridge until it stops completely) and realised the mess. I did a lot of cross fades with Tri-X without any problem and so with Vision 2. Maybe a bad batch of Ekta ? I will do more tests for the sake of it. If you want to finish on video with super 8 maybe a dissolve or a fade in/out should be done on Avid or FCP. Of course exposing a cross dissolve on film is a thrill. Good luck !
  25. Sorry, but really, take the piece and trow it out the window. If anything it should win a prize for the most ugly desing ever made not to mention its bad technical capabilities. For 100$ or less you can get in a store a real Super 8 that will make the job. Forget this Kodak XL33....
