  1. Hi Jay.. like the image.. WW2 Spitfire pilot look.. never have so few ... Sorry wasn't getting your case.. just thought the DP must have had a look through the VF at some stage.. and have seen its very dark.. at 3 stops + under..
  2. "I know first hand shooting last week with a digital camera who's monitor was trusted but when looking at the footage on a computer was at least 3 stops underexposed! It was simply due to the camera monitor being out of calibration and providing a much brighter image. At least this wasn't anything important, and just a test for something down the road." Jay.. wow you might want to get a new DP and or DIT.. being at least 3 stops under is a bit more than a calibration problem.. and who was looking through the view finder.. . or the brightness was way down on the computer .. :)
  3. I agree money will always be the deciding factor.. studio,s are in business to make max profits.. or they,ll get taken over by the other one that does .. but if digital becomes alot cheaper for shooting/post/distribution.. through some techie break through .. apart from directors that can pretty much guarantee big box office.. Im sure most will be told its digital or nothing..
  4. OK good.. yeah might survive.. Im not sure it matters as now digital camera,s are so good.... and the camera work should never be the most important thing in a film either .. hopefully it augments a great story .. make a film copy for archive only..
  5. I guess the only thing that would kill it for movie production would be the labs actually not making enough money to be viable... have to be bought by the studio,s or DP consortiums .. or all the studio,s decided to just axe all film production if it somehow became too expensive.. price of silver went through the roof ?
  6. Not a 4K camera thats for sure.. they have all got alot cheaper than ENG,s were 5 years ago.. ok lenses went up.. but they have a much longer shelf life.. I wouldn't buy an Amira now .. as there is alot of 4K being shot.. mostly for HD delivery but people want to future proof and muck around with the 4K image .. for good or for bad.. I worked with a cameraman from NHK.. Japanese national tv channel.. run as its own planet it seems.. but he said NHK were pissed off they didnt invent or get into 4K .. and now 8K has become their next plan to lead the world in camera spec,s and prestige .. and thats tax payers money so they will just keep on spending it..
  7. haha ..I,d love to know why.. re the P R I C K comment ! I was reading something the other day about film dying out and Labs all closing... cant for the life of me remember who.. but to the effect.. as soon as people hear that something is going away.. old building, newspaper .. fav desert .. suddenly everyone wants it back,or to stay.. but the writing is on the wall.. and eventually X will go..
  8. Theres no documentaries shot on film anymore.. even very top end..unless its a totally indie self produced one.. but also its not 8 bit 422 anymore either.. even the lowley F5 with RAW recorder can do 4K 16 bit RAW.. but its mostly 10 bit Slog.. corporate is the same.. I think only news, event and sports is now 8 bit 422.. .. alot of corporate shoots are quite big budgets now.. as they realize the web is getting to more people than $1 million + TV broadcast slots .. esp any thing targeting Yoofs.. TBH I think people would have gone to see a Tarantino film .. if it had been shot on F55 or Alexa.. sure there was a buzz about the 70mm.. but look at the reactions.. oh its a bit boring as its in one room.. the lighting is a bit un motivated .. they slap the girl around too much.. nothing to do with 70mm.. My point more to Carl.. is there arnt alot of people that can/would just turn down a shoot if its not film as he implies he would..as not a good career choice to defy physic,s.. its not a great career choice to turn down all digital work and tell the producers they are philistines .. well not till you have a few Oscar noms to your name.. :)
  9. But a working DP will usually have to take a big shoot even if its being shot digitally .. must be only a handful of people who can either turn down a big film or demand it be shot on film.. Its fine to postulate over a cappuccino .. or have a preference.. but in real life.. if its your job.. you would have to shoot digital and make it look the best you can..
  10. There were a few 8K screens at interbee this year.. pretty impressive in a huge hall.. but except for someone with alot of money and a huge home cinema.. i.e. a sound recordist.. there is no way these screens will be for ordinary homes..
  11. Alex .. do you by any chance work in the Greek Finance Ministry.. :)
  12. well it is their job.. and they are both well known and no doubt they are paid well.. for as long as they earn way more for the producers/studio,s who hire them anyway ... :) but as anyone on this forum knows .. there is no way they went into this industry with the idea of getting rich.. in that sense I would say they are crafts men who have done well.. in my opinion .. rather than absolutely businessman .. who,s main thoughts is to enlarge their bank accounts.. they would be shooting any tosh non stop and Ridley Scot would have just kept making commercials ... way more easy money there.. I think you do them a disservice .. without basing your accusations on any fact .. its a bit rude.. but sure its a public forum.. but I do think one needs some basis for publicly, pretty much, disparaging people.. and saying they "don't care"... sorry my rant over !
  13. This question again.. you need to get out of your mums basement a bit.. there is alot of over exposure in porn.. and wide open apertures.. 70mm Panavison would be the best choice.. always shoot wide open..
  14. man.. you plainly stated they were just businessmen and didnt care.. those were your words mate.. anyway no point to debate with you really.. you always go back and denied whole thrusts of your argument.. and change the goal posts.. its been entertaining and thanks for the fish.. :)
  15. Looks like a classic Coen Bros romp of a film.. and is someone really going to say that this doesn't look fantastic because its digital.. :)..!!!
  16. Tyler hang on.. .. what you have edited out is that you claimed Miller and Ridley Scot were purely businessmen who didnt care at all about their end product but only money.. your words .. based on what.. your Hollywood buddies in high places ..
  17. There is only a rumor that the F65 will be replaced with an 8K ? camera .. which would be much smaller than the quite big F65.. and a more F55 type work flow.. F65 is 6K sensor as they have crammed more in by placing pixels diagonally .. basically to over sample to get a true 4K after debayering takes its toll.. although the less than 3K Alexa has seemed to totally taken over all high end digital production..
  18. Tyler.. I dont think you actually watched the full ACS video.. Miller is renowned for being totally anal with post..Seale talks about this at length.. this random comment about the jib trucks.. both were used and there was a reason to have the two.. you are totally talking out of your rear end man.. And Ridley Scott doesnt care about his films !! of all people.. what are you basing this on .. Such vitriol .. towards people and productions you know absolutely zero about... and this crush on Nolan films you also had zero to do with.. you seem very bitter with your lot in this industry.. I think I wont comment on anymore of your posts as its actually getting a bit sad now.. good luck to you..
  19. Im just pulling his chain a bit.. he's pretty entertaining .. but going a bit off the rails lately..
  20. Careful.. Im pretty sure Tyler is an expert in space travel.. is often begged for advise from NASA.. and has more than likely been a frequent visitor to the international space station.. and made all the models for ThunderBirds.. which was shot on film by the way..
  21. Richard.. ok thanks.. but like really attacked..!! I think the scene in Revenant of the bear attack is very convincing .. and that would just be impossible with a real bear.. and a real actor.. let alone an A list one.. how did you shoot it with the real bear ..?
  22. As Ive said before.. Tyler.. rather than sitting around in coffee shops with your critic circle .. making very disparaging remarks about almost all of the best known directors and DP,s at the top of their game in the world today.. try to get on a "real" film set and see what people are up against/doing..and maybe go to Arri and learn about digital capture .. you are really not doing yourself any favors.. to the point of your posts being embarrassing to read.. as a self proclaimed expert on just about everything.. I have to wonder why your not in the big league yourself.. empty vessels as the saying goes..
