  1. Harsh but fair.. I think Annie knows she is better than this already.. and doesnt really need the little grass hopper lectures.. or to buy crystals .. just is pissed off at the moment but will be fine after day one of the next job.. that wont be some flakey, fly by night production.. Fight the power..!!
  2. This thread has turned to mush... standing on soap box,s and new age physco babble... Fact 1.. your gear is yours go and get it.. Fact 2.. they wont pay you, they are scum.. but your lucky its only $500 Fact 3 yes we do need unions.. Fact 4 forget this DP.. he is also a spineless p*ick... There you go.. sorted..
  3. With these size HMI,s I dont think too much difference in throw, once they are softened right down with silks screens.I guess less flexibility as the Kino,s are only soft lights.. but if thats what you need then its fine. Other thing is the kino,s will use less power, and if space is an aspect they will take up way less room, and they run cool. They have an egg crate thats helps with spill to some extent ..
  4. The Image 80,s knock out quite a bit of light, and pretty easy to put 2 or 3 together through a thin silk.I guess it depends the throw you need.. if you were thinking an 18k HMI it wont have the same punch.. :)
  5. Yes totally agree.. if the brains dept :) are happy and you are happy with your work.. then success all round! good luck with future projects!
  6. Yes good points... I have seen dinner with Andre.. all shot in one room.. great film.. thats not really my beef.. that was shot 35mm with a full crew.. I guess its just my own prejudices .. pre conceived idea,s... that a feature had a crew of departments/a professional camera/lighting budget/catering etc... One point though .. you,ll hear a film was shot with only available light.. Chris Menges/ Barry Ackroyd/the late Nester Almendros.. etc but actually they did use lights, even big ones.. but in a very natural way.. sorry if this is sounding condensing not meant to be :) But hey yes see your point... if its feature length.. then its a feature.. why the hell not... get rid of my old ideas!!!
  7. Maybe its just a cultural or age thing.. and not trying to get on anyones case.. before the defensive messages start... but can it be called a feature when shot on an EX1 or 3 for that matter.. in 5 days.. I think to anyone of my age 40+ a feature can be ofcourse low budget but at least is 16mm/HDCAM etc... and there is more than one Omni light in play.. its like calling a skate board an Aston Martin.. or every wedding video, often shot with way better gear,a feature/doc and submitting it for Sun Dance.. :) Repeat not having a go at anyone here... just been on my mind for a while.. since when was a feature shot totally on EX,3s with no lights.. over a weekend? not saying the results could be amazing.. but a feature????
  8. Any reason not to use HMI,s ungelled for green screen? through silks.. Thanks
  9. Hi Bob Ok thanks.. yes thats what I had heard on that previous job.. thanks for confirming.. and that it isnt a big deal.I dont do alot of big green screen shoots, and I think alot of camera people dont know that you can shoot off the screen as long as your hero person or product is surrounded at all times.. or maybe it was only me :) it does make life a bit easier.. Have you had trouble convincing clients/producers of this ? :)
  10. Thanks Serge Yes the studio is a pain... China they will.. Tokyo they wont.. fairly typical.. but there is a company that will deliver a huge green screen cloth made with apparently creaseless material... remains to be seen :) Iam not too worried about shooting off the screen now... based on a job a few years ago where even with a big screen outside for low shots had to shoot off the thing.. and the dir wasnt worried at.. was put in,in post.. I wasnt there when they actually did this post prod work on the computer, but was told it is an easy enough procedure.. and it worked in the finished product.. made an army out of about 12 guys!!! Anyway thanks again
  11. Have to do full length.. hero walking about 6 steps into shot.. turn face camera.. shot. Will go for biggest screen I can get... Studio wont paint syc..on another shoot I was told that as long as the talent is surrounded by screen(green in this case) other parts of the camera frame could shoot off the background as this could be easily (added) in post. And thats what they did.. but just wondering..is it that easy in post.. or pain in the arse... expensive etc Also was thinking to use 4 X 1.2 HMI,s with diffusion screens.. maybe a couple of 4x4 kino,s daylight balanced.. just in case.. :) to light screen and talent.. Any thoughts? Thanks
  12. Yes Tokyo is 50hz, but if you are going down to Kyoto,or Osaka it becomes 60hz..but the TV system is NTSC all over Japan. You probably wont get an English manual, but I think you can down load one.
  13. Dont want to split hairs  but not always the loaders fault, some batches are just full of crap.. and the raised gate of an Arri will pick them all up.. in 16mm the Aaton gate was much better.. not checking the gate is one thing.. its another where the crap came from.. I think the simple reason this guy had trouble with his shoot,is that really long hours and very low pay piss people off even if they started with the best intentions, and it totally wears you out.. physically and mentally ... you can push people the extra mile, but not another 10 miles the same day.. the attitude problem is often that of the indie producer who,s seen Easy Rider a few too many times.
  14. Just use Hunters formula... you can work it out on any mobile phone calculator... or a good producer can do it in their head and tell you its too expensive
  15. Thanks for the chart.. seems the easiest to use than the other two.... nice one...
  16. From your photo it looks like the romance was pretty successful a six months before :)
  17. I use the Roller to block up the car park,so they cant get their pimped out SUV,s out... works everytime..
  18. I think a 1965 Rolls Royce Corniche,in powder blue is by far the best camera persons conveyance ... and will show the grips dept who is boss aswell.. perfect..
  19. Dont want to be picky ,but just incase some one is going there.... Japan is 100V... and sometimes less !!! bring your Kino,s !
  20. Haha! yes audio is tricky with all these switches ..and as you say.. just one in the wrong place and the audio can go out the window..!! Still strange they should send from the factory with 3/4 rear.. as traditionally your main sound on doc,s anyway would be 1/2... for sure you wouldnt want the mixer connected to the front of the camera..!!! Thanks
  21. Dont think thats right.. the one XLR at the front of the camera is ofcourse for on board shotgun... any feeds from a mixer/wireless link are into the 2 XLR,s in the rear.. infact 3 and 4 are mostly set to be the front mic.. on auto..
