  1. i shot the vivid in various situation and have not been happy. i wanted what the stock calls for, vivid color saturation, higher contrast, but it doesnt look good to me. i miss the Kodak EXR stocks and thought Vivid was my replacement. my final attempt i had the lab push one stop, but didnt achieve desire. so, i'm pleased with Kodak's V3 500T, which provides dense black and a saturation almost..like EXR. now perhaps if i can havee it printed onto 3393 may up my saturation.
  2. Try Movielab in Rockville, MD. good people, good lab. no extra charge for skip bleach or cross-processing.
  3. Yale film Lab will process 7240. they do a good job and quick turnaround. just had three rolls processed. two super8 carts and 100' regular8.
  4. i'm interested in any ideas with this as well. im familiar with 3383 and 3393, but would like to know if a fuji or another color stock can provide a more dense black and richer colors?
  5. ive been very unhappy with this vivid160T stock. initially i was very excited since Kodak did away with the saturated EXR stocks such as 7248. on several shoots i just get muddy blacks and medium color range. ive tried normal exposure, over by one stop, by two stops and push processing and still very unsatisfied. ive called lab several times regarding the stock and processing, but still same mud compared to a dense black and color saturation of EXR stocks. maybe Vision3 will please..?
  6. does anyone have knowledge or experience with projectng with a xenon projector? i just acquired an Elmo CX-350. i dont have the power cable yet so not sure it properly functions, but im working on a positive future with the possibilities. my concern is with the color temp. do you have a print made (timed) for a xenon or will it work just as well with a proper through. also, does any have any ideas where i might find a power cable for this projector? i called Elmo and they said "good Luck". thanks for any advice.

  8. i miss the EXR 7248. i have one 100' left and currently in camera. i'm okay because feel the fuji vivid may hopefully satisfy. the vision series just doesnt have what i like about the EXR line, which is contrast, color saturation and dense rich blacks.
  9. sounds like... what is it called? ENR process? cant remember what it is called but something i practice and alter often with handprocessing motion picture film. i usually process 16mm reversal or neg film in c-41 first. it provides really nice, in my opinion, high contrast overly saturated images along with the normal hand-processed look.
  10. walmart sends films to Dwayne's in Kansas. Dwayne's does process the 64T Ektachrome. so, just drop by the store and drop off in envelope as you would any film to be processed, but very good idea to place in "special instructions" that it is 8mm film to be sent out for PROCESSING.
  11. i now use Movielab for processing and printing 16mm color neg. they provide quality and friendly service. ive used a lot of labs in the past ten+ years and these guys are good, but not sure their connection with ColorLab...anyone? www.movielab.com
  12. so, now my prefered stocks are discontinued ( 7248 and the vision 200T) what suggested current stock would work for origination? i know the new vision2 100T is lower contrast for video prep. so any ideas for camera stock? when 7248 was avaliable i would originate on that and finish on the 2393 with excellent results. are those results no longer accessable in film finishing? thanks for your thoughts.
  13. i need a neg stock that is not gauged for video output. i need a stock with saturated colors and some contrast like the dicontinued 7248 or 7246. does anyone have any sugggestions or should i consider Fuji? Thanks for any ideas you can provide.
  14. Bolex H-8 DS8 w/ switar primes for A,B and C
  15. wondering if anyone may have any ideas how to solve my problem with lens flares or light streaks when re-photographing film on a jk optical printer. the set-up is simple: bolex, bellows with Nikkor 50mm, filter pack including neutral densities, and a light source, which is the projected light of 300w slide projector bulb. the f/stop is around f/8 - f/16. i get the streak if i use diffusion glass or not. of course most streaking occurs with higher contrast original images with "hot spots". is there some way to solve this major problem? i have been using a cut-out mask that frames the frame i am re-photographing, but this is not always effective and is difficult to control. there must be a solution. thanks for any help anyone can provide.

  17. yeah, best place to get the super8 film is from kodak directly. price should be around $12/roll for kodachrome. i believe tri-x maybe close to that price. kodak order#800-621-FILM some photo stores have super8 in stock , but its according to wear youre located. i remember when you could buy s-8 film at any local store that sold film. man, those were the days.
  18. yes, the ds8 kodachrome can be sent to dwayne's, switzerland or through wal-mart if you want to support that company. i believe dwayne's prices for this is on their website, if not you can email them from there.
  19. Pac-lab.com in NYC does good job processing each day with good prices. if i remember properly, it's .17/ft.
  20. i make 16mm opical print once or twice per year. these are personal projects not commercial. there is an obvious reason i make prints instead of video. by-the-by, good to see filmmakers in my old hometown, Jville.
  21. what i mean by distributed beyond your hometown, the work ive produced is distributed by co-ops that rent or they are screened at film fest and other venues such as galleries, etc. most of the work i screen is either bumped to a super8 or 16mm print or i do as john says, travel with the original.
  22. doesnt kodak send the film over to europe for processing now? i just dropped 8mm 100' roll k40 at walmart who uses dwayne's so that shouldnt be a problem as i know dwayne's still processes. so if you have pk59, kodak should send to Switzerland.
  23. all my super8 and 16mm work is Projected. it is distributed beyond my hometown and friends and Projected. i shoot film to project, to take advantage of the quality of film. proper telecine can look good, but not enough for me to present in video.
  24. great lab for experimental filmaker or commercial. good results everytime and quick turnaround.
  25. iwas a little confused when a 7242 was suggested as i still have short roll of the ektachrome stock in my fridge for som reason. regardless, i now understand what is going on with this stock and my methods and how proceed thanks so much for your help, robbie
