  1. Here to rain on parades http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=71503
  2. The point I was sort of making to begin with. In the 11 years of Youtube's existence, I have been waiting on a legitimate legal case where a user, not the website, lost a lawsuit for doing something like the Hitler subtitle videos. On the contrary, I HAVE seen the corporate owners of various parodies embrace the internet studios rather than take legal action. Again I do NOT claim this is the written law, but how I've seen it enforced within communities of millions.
  3. Somebody needs to stop playing video games.
  4. So THAT'S how those budgets rack up millions.
  5. I have a set of Rokinon primes (35-50-85) with an EF to BMPCC adapter for sale if you're looking to build an arsenal.
  6. I've had 3D animated shorts that get re-uploaded to facebook constantly, are people doing anything with your features other than "Watch this for free"?
  7. Good news: just got signed on to direct the Sucide Squad sequel entitled "Kill Yourself Club"

  8. Been wondering this for a while. Never been on an extended shoot of more than a few people (as most of my work is online); so I've only seen work catering maybe once in my life. Understand that this relies on the budget, but what is the proper 'etiquette' for catering a set? I would assume pizza everyday doesn't go over well on bigger sets so I was just curious as to what's expected depending on a given project's size/budget. The only thing I recall being discussed here was how Richard B said his crew was complaining about filet mignon lol. Thanks.
  9. I assume we're talking video? For some reason in my head "fashion studio" always comes off as a stills business. Just about any camera designed for cinematic video will be doing a better job for you over a DSLR. https://youtu.be/weL0N_uwN8A?t=92 This video has some DSLR models side by side with more "filmic" models. You'll be able to see the difference from left to right.
  10. Forgot to ask; Does that give you a nice vintage vibe? Or when going into solid state recorders does it just sound low quality?
  11. Talked with some original actors on their roles for advice. To me, that's zero collaboration. And I'll also believe Allen had no real head bumping collaboration with the original director until further evidence is presented. I'm curious as to where you got that original quote you posted, was there any elaboration on what the stated co-director actually did for WA's '66 production? What if they simply credited him for the visuals? I had all of the Japanese animators credited on mine.
  12. How would you know I didn't change the plot? Change the themes? etc? And let's be real, the Japanese "co-director" feels like a happy "oh no hard feelings" publicity thing, do you specifically know what Taniguchi's significant contributions were to the film? Cause every bit of the screenplay had Woody written all over it. Now if you're getting back into legality; I've said multiple times that we both have the same interpretation of the written law in agreement. Funny you say that, 2 of the 5 writers were MST3K fans.
  13. If I'm calculating off the top of my head: lights, lenses, cameras, tripods, rigs, and audio gear. 20k can without a doubt get you going. But if you're speaking in terms of top-of-the-line arsenals you would want to set the budget higher. Something like 40k-70k. Is your thread a general "throw me some essential gear to cop" type of deal? Cause I'm sure myself and several other users could be able to throw stuff out for you. If you had a skype I could call you to run by the essential things in one sitting with eBay links and such.
  14. How much do you plan on investing in your gear load out altogether?
  15. RED Dragon is a nice (and expensive) body, but getting to the next level from what? And what gear do you currently have already?
  16. Thanks, man. Primary job completed. If you don't mind my asking; what era did you grow up in? I've gathered demographics from people who don't produce, but research in people who actually work in a similar field helps me to know where I stand.
  17. Fair enough. Was just trying to get the "why's" and lines of Richard's opinions since I know he has also produced features. I'm not gonna freak out over him not appreciating it but wouldn't you say it's worth poking around to hear out someone of his experiences? I can't sit there and expect him, or anyone here, to teach me things straight up. Sometimes we gotta tussle for it. And again, I don't make money doing these things, these only make connections which lead to jobs not working with copyrighted material.
  18. Yeah I'd also say to go with an F5. If you NEED to stick with your given list, perhaps the RED scarlet because it's quite small and on the lower end of the price spectrum?
  19. Well if you also claim that Woody Allen's first feature was also just a "rip off" then we just have to agree we come from two very different places. I know many communities that hold his film as a clever improvement to whatever he was editing/dubbing over.
  20. Think we're jumping into firm subjectivity here. I've built a fanbase with projects like this going into that, people with clout to employ have found these very entertaining and pulled the trigger on me. On the flip side I could show "Against The Wild" to that same fanbase/circle and they'd say the same thing you're claiming about my cut: "uncreative, boring, etc". I personally don't claim this about your work but I simply ask that you acknowledge there have been many new audiences emerging since you decided on your target audience years ago. Comedy/video/film is always evolving, you've considered that it might evolve into something that isn't your cup of tea, right?
  21. Joke writer, ADR director, and sound designer. I've done shorter things like this (as portfolio pieces) in the past and catch a decent amount of employment. I feel like people are assuming I'm trying to get this a distribution deal for some reason..
  22. See that's what I would assume too. However the internet has sprawled things out to the point where huge offenders aren't getting slammed with lawsuits like you would expect. If it WERE to happen, Youtube for instance would be a VERY different place than what it is right now.
  23. Well put it this way, let's say you have twice the cash in your bank account right now and you see someone just throwing up a random no-profit thing goofing on Against The Wild 2 using the footage. Are you going to write a C&D/digitally remove it? Or go through with an elongated court case and thousands in legal fees?
  24. I'm completely aware of all of this, and there will come a point where I take things like this down. The law versus the law's enforcement are two very different things though. I could show you a load of people doing exactly this who faced, at the very most, a channel getting banned. If my Vimeo gets banned I can make another, really not concerned with an account on the internet.
