  1. I've got the Beaulieu 6008 Pro crystal synch, recently serviced and a 5008. I'd have to say the 5008 is noticeabley quiter and sturdier but nothing beats having crystal sync for inexpensive low-fi music videos. I also have a Nizo 481 which is very quiet and compact. Just the perfect camera to get in a baseball stadium or concert venue...
  2. Can the Honda 6500 Crystal Sync 50 Amp genny handle a 4K HMI fresnel w/ electronic ballast?
  3. Is Cinemek putting out anymore G35 adapters? Anyone renting these in Los Angeles? Love the work Mac, inspiring. BTW, which lenses did you use? Thanks, BT
  4. Any recomendations on a shotgun mic? Is the Sennhieser MKE-300 any good?
  5. I'll chime in with "Tetsuo: Iron Man". Classic.
  6. Some beautiful cinematography but unfortunately there was nothing there to support. A very basic script. Great themes, in fact brilliant themes but so convolutedly carried out as to make me not care at all. I kept checking my watch during the screening. I kept thinking "Who Cares?". The plot was so poorly executed and the editing so confusing that I lost interest 1/3 of the way through the film. How many brilliant shots of the sun am I supposed to endure? Great cast but poorly directed. They were up there, underutilized, floundering, sticking out like sore thumbs. And that twist ending? C'mon. "Alien" this is not, "2001: A Space Odyssey" this is not, "Solaris" this is not.
  7. Nizo 481 or Beaulieu 5008S. Nikon R10 not bad either.
  8. Why not soft light the subject (with a couple of your red heads through diffusion as you suggested) then hardlight your b/g with your remaining unit? Put a window frame in front of it for your effect. Add haze as suggested by the other members and gel to taste.
  9. Okay. so what's the 3 button combo??
  10. Nice camera, never let me down. I have it listed on ebay. Includes a Pelican 1500 case, instruction manual, sales brochure, key, UV filter, remote trigger. On a seperate auction I'm selling a Crystal Camera Control made by Super8 Sound, Inc. for Beaulieu 4008 or other Pro 8 models. I never got a chance to use it. Thanks for looking.
  11. Does anyone know which lenses Mr. Doyle favors?
  12. I don't mean to pigeon-hole anyone but I still love Jan de Bont's anamorphic photography on the 1st Die Hard film. Although the latest was pretty satisfying. Could have trimmed about 30 minutes from the trt for my taste. Bruce did a great job and the film lived up to its name.
  13. Does it resemble the images from a Holga? Does that get you close?
  14. It's a great classroom excercise to light interviews with hardlight. It's hard to do. I find men with rugged chiseled faces handle it better than women. Women are very sensitive to their lighting and won't want hard light. Practically speaking I go to the softboxes for speed and predictability. In this event I shot interviews with about 20 people, not knowing what their particular strengths might be, that's usually the case. Broad soft source over lens set to the right with soft fill. I think I used some cometic gel over the key for a little warmth. No time to tweak color temps (between key/fill) so pretty std fare. But std. lighting is better than ugly lighting:
  15. Don't you think you'd need more poop than a 2k to fill daylight ext's? Or were there some Int. shots you were referring to? ( I couldn't make it through the whole thing).
  16. Makes me think of our favorite movie, "Tideland" ; )
  17. Seems contrasty to my eye, for interviews. Of course what I do tends to be flatter. What was your fill light doing? I think I see a double shadow in pic one. Could you work to elimainate that? Also what exact lights did you use? By using bigger units you could get a bigger eye light and more fill. If you're limited to small units you could always bounce 'em. If you like the hard look you could bounce off mirrors or shiny boards just to make your source larger. What was your thought process for the b/g? Could you have done anything with the walls, especially in the wide shot? I like your framing on pic. three. Nice job.
  18. Especially moving when I learned the eleven year old boy who starred in the movie (Fernando Ramos da Silva) died 6 years later on the streets of Brazil. Apparently as a result of being shot by the police. Life imitating art.
  19. When in doubt...shoot some tests.
  20. You are correct Dan, that's what I meant. Influenced BY the Italian neo realists. Thanks.
  21. A good habit is to ball up your lens tissues before use in order to break any of the stiff fibers in the paper. And only clean that lens when neccessary, the less the better.
  22. Anyone ever experience this film by Hector Babenco starring the late Fernando Ramos da Silva? I just found it very brave, like "The 400 Blows" but with more empathy. Very much influenced the Italian Neo Realism movement.
