  1. Hello! I have been trying to outfit my Arriflex 16MB with a sync motor for music videos or similar (knowing how loud my camera is). I purchased a 60hz - 42v sync motor without its transformer for a reasonably low price on ebay. I shouldn't have any trouble building my own transformer but the connector on the motor is a little confusing to me. Does anybody know what the pins are on these 60hz - 42v motors? I assume there is a ground, pilot tone, +/- 42v, maybe a secondary at 8vdc for the torque motor on the SB model? Any help would be appreciated!!
  2. Hey everyone. I figured you all would appreciate this. My dad - a true lover of the NASA space program - sent me this link to one of four videos of the space shuttle lifting off at 400fps. I am posting it here because the narrators talk extensively about the film-making processes that were used to achieve this. Really astounding images on 16mm. Enjoy!

  4. Thought I'd post a short film I finished a short while back. I wanted to text a batch of 64D I had in the fridge while working with a new DP and lab. (Video and Film Solutions, Rockville, MD). Rather than film a roll,of my hometown I adapted a dream my friend had into a quick micro short film about the end of the world. Really pleased with the outcome and don't know why more shorts aren't filed inSuper 16. Tech info: Aaton XTR ZEISS Super Speed MKI FUJI 64D Lab and transfer: Video and a Film Solutions Thank you for watching
  5. Selling off my 16mm kit. Includes the following: - Canon Scoopic 16M with 12.5-75mm 1.8 lens - Two (2) Canon S-12 Batteries (1 has fresh, working cells and the other needs service) - Canon S-12 Battery Charger - Canon Scoopic Carrying Case - Cable Release - Filter Set: - Canon 72mm UV 1x Filter - Canon 72mm Skylight Filter - Tiffen 72mm FL-B Filter The camera is in excellent working order. The motor runs smoothly at all speeds and the interior and exterior are also very clean. The glass is free of scratches, haze, fungus, etc. As with any lens, there may be some microscopic dust on the inside of the lens, but nothing that affects image quality in any noticeable way. The one battery was re-celled within the past month and works as new. The battery charger is also in normal working condition. A charged battery will supposedly last for 100 reels of 100' stock. Regarding the filters: I have never used this set of filters. They were included when I purchased the camera and they are not in great shape. I am only including them in case someone can make better use of them than I did. Asking $500 plus exact shipping costs. Please don't hesitate to message me with any questions you may have. Thanks!
  6. So I'm pretty new to 16mm stuff, I've gradually been making the switch from digital. It's been pretty fun. Right now I'm using a Bolex as my A-Cam and two old Keystones as my crash cams. Yeah, I'm working on filling the gap between those two, but that's not the point. One thing that I've given up since making the switch was my anamorphic lenses. I love them to pieces, they're just awesome. However, I've had trouble finding a conclusive solution for a c mount anamorphic lens. It's kind of frustrating, and I was wondering what my options realistically are. I've heard several different ideas on this forum, one of which is using projector lenses. I've never really had to do that, so would that be a good option? I don't know that I've encountered much projection glass well-suited for shooting, but maybe I just haven't seen enough. I would really like to stay away from anamorphic adapters. I guess if that's the best option then I can use them, but I've always stuck to the real thing. Last thing, cost is a big factor here. I'm a big fan of quality glass, but I don't use these cameras enough to drop a lot of money on one lens. So if that means I should just get a lens adapter and use some cheap anamorphic glass for a different mount, I can do that. I just want to know what my options are for an adapter-less setup, if that's even possible. Thanks much!

    Eumig C16R

I recently encountered a Eumig C16R that was cheaper than it usually is, which is already pretty cheap. I'm looking for a camera that is somewhere between my Keystones, which I would throw off a cliff and not feel bad, and a Bolex, which is staying locked on a tripod or in a shoulder mount. The Eumig seems pretty appealing, but I have a few questions before I jump on it. I was told that it's not a reflex camera (even though it has an R in its name. Slightly decieving, I think), but it does seem to have a decent viewing system. How well can one frame with this camera? Is pulling focus an attainable thing? It's not reflex, so by pulling focus I mean previewing through the finder and translating my focus marks during filming. About as effective as getting out a tape measure, which I do anyway, but it would be fine to be able to have some semblance of focusing ability. How reliable is it? I haven't heard much about its functionality. Is it a single or double perf camera? How loud is it? It's clockwork so it can't be too quiet so my question is is it loud or quiet compared to, say a bolex or a keystone. Lastly, as I hinted before, I want this to be kind of somewhere between an A and a B cam. Something I would feel good strapping to the hood of a car or running through a field with. Pretty much what I'm asking is is it a good enough camera that I can ask that of it? Your input is infinitely appreciated! Thanks.
  8. Hi, I'm looking for a Cinema Products NCC6 battery charger for my CP GSMO 16mm camera. I know Whitehouse sells them but I'm wondering if anyone may have one available to sell. Thanks.
  9. Hey. I've recently shot my first 16mm film, and to our greatest luck, there's a nice big blue artifact in one of the rolls. html5 video http://gfycat.com/ElatedBountifulCowrie better quality stills https://www.dropbox.com/s/ze40zp4554ysb90/artifact_1.1.2.jpg?dl=0 There is actually information under the blue artifact (If you cannot tell by the low quality animation) which makes me wonder how this could happen? (And who's head should roll?) As this is a film school project, I don't have any contact with the lab myself, but they told the teachers it was because the camera wasn't clean. Anybody have any clue or experienced this before? Thanks!

  11. Anyone have experience with the Arri 416 timecode module? After jamming the camera/attaching a sync-box, the TC light blinks... which means it's not actually recording the timecode onto the film. After consulting the manual, the error code it gives me corresponds to 'timecode led not recognized' and suggests to check the timecode module. I'm not sure where the timecode module is, and I have a hunch that the 400' magazines we're using aren't equipped with the module to burn the timecode in. Where is the timecode module located on the mag/camera?

I am throwing in my XLR battery. I can provide a video of the motor running upon request I am open to meeting up locally within NYC. It has served me well! I hope it finds a good 16mm filmmaker. I can email you pictures and video of the motor working, I cannot upload on this site because my file sizes are too big, just msg me.
  15. Shooting a student project on the Bolex H-16 camera, I understand that 25% of light is lost by going into the viewfinder. That means that on a normal light meter it has to be compensated for right? I will be using 250D stock, would setting the ASA on the light meter to 160 compensate for this? and then could I use the light meter as normal? Also is there any common problems or tips and tricks that might be useful for me to know before the shoot? Thanks Will
  16. The focus adjustment ring on my bolex h16 reflex camera is stuck. I have tried focusing the ground glass with the lenses removed and the camera pointed at a bright light source. The ring will move a little bit and I can see the ground glass blurring and sharpening, but I do not have full movement of the ring. I tried losening the screw on the focus ring and re-tightening it, and it still will not budge. It feels as if it is catching on something, I can hear a little clicking noise when I try to turn it. I am thinking that I may need to take apart the diopter to find out what is jamming it up internally. I can't figure out how to do this- apart from tightening and loosening the screw on the focus ring. If it is possible, I would like to try to repair this by myself. Any suggestions?

  22. Hi all, I'm thinking of buying an old Hycam 16mm for high speed filming, but I know very little about them. It's here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321100773740 I'm fully prepared for this to be a big project – does anyone have any tips? Do the cameras take C Mount lenses? Many thanks for any information. Davo
  23. Hi, Been a reader for a long time but haven't been active on the site much, thought you all would have some good insights on my most recent reel. What you like, what could be done better. It's a mix of F65, Red, 16mm and one or two DSLR shots. Thanks guys, all the best! Ben http://fischinger.com/showreel-2014/
  24. Hello. Would like to get some feedback on good/affordable gears for 16mm film lenses, mostly for BMPCC. I own a BMPCC , Schneider and Kern Primes. Looking for : => A good CAGE I own this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMPC-Cage-Top-Handle-Grip-15mm-BMPCC-for-Blackmagic-Pocket-Camera-support-system-/261534271701?pt=UK_Photography_Movie_Camera_Accessories&hash=item3ce4a848d5 , which scratches the body a bit when in and out, too heavy and annoying to do Steadicam work. Thinking to get the Varavon (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261398476332&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en) as Tilta is quite pricey although people say it's great, I never tried. THe good on the Varavon seem is that it looks light as per designs, but sill the Clamp is too high so in the Steadicam is hard to balance, so I might use one in my shoulder rigs that might be 2/3 of the height. I'm looking for a good one that is practical and fits well, if any other suggestion please let me know. => Good adaptable RINGS for follow focus. Still couldn't find small than 50-60mm (like this 60mm: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281387086694&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en) as the barrel of the kerns are ridiculously small (25mm wide). And I'm not sure if the 60mm would fit a Schneider barrel of 45mm for example. Any experience/Ideas of rings? Any other tips around BMPCC gear and accessories, just put in here. Thanks guys.
  25. Hello, I just bought a NAC 16mm High Speed Camera. I got it for a bargain price and the camera is in mint shape and everything functions. I was wondering if anyone has used this camera before? I'm looking to use it for a 16mm demo I'm making for the opening scene. I want to shoot some slow motion of the opening scene to add into the super 16mm footage. I also have searched and even contacted NAC and they have nothing to offer on maintenance on the camera. I noticed there is a oil hole and I'm only looking to go up to 500 fps or maybe 1000 fps the highest. Any other info on this camera would be great to know or if anyone knows anything about the camera besides the small info online and in the owners manual which has nothing to offer. Thanks
