Hello Everyone.... OK I found this EBM the is setup to record audio on to 16mm film while shooting... Well that's one way to get SYNC sound... It all looks very complete, but would anyone, today, still use this device? The reason I ask is that I'm planning to remove it... but it seems a shame to trash such vintage technology. any thoughts on this opportunity? Arthur!

Hello, (A summary of my questions are bullet pointed below the first paragraph) I am looking at buying a Bolex with the purpose of doing a few short films and music videos over the next 12 months . This will also be the first 16mm film camera I own and I good starting point before I move on to a 16sr3 advanced. I have done my research on the camera and most answers say the SBM, EBM and Rex 4 and 5 models are the best to convert to super 16. However I feel I need to ask a more basic question on what people in this forum would suggest, as I can ask more direct questions and hopefully get more specific answers. I know the basic benefits of converting to Super 16, but I'm more interested in what bolex model people would suggest is the best for the job. I could spend between £1,200-£1,500 on the camera but obviously if a cheaper option is just as good that'd be fantastic. I have seen some super 16 SBM for around $2,999 so yes! So here are my questions in summary. -What is the best model in my price range to buy to convert to super 16? -This may sound stupid but I know the issues with the beamsplitter and the widening of the viewfinder with conversion, but can a PL mount be put on the camera without it having undergone the conversion, as have read and seen people putting Zeiss super speeds on these cameras. - If the new faceplate reads bolex H super 16, what bolex model was that before the conversion (again may sound stupid). I do have more questions on the topic, but once I get a reply I may ask more ahah. I am hoping to do a project in late June this year so If anyone has any information they might think is helpful that would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Will

...OK, I'm working with Bolex EBM in a studio setting...the camera body will mount directly to the tripod or dolly. I'm not using the handle grip that has the on/off button on it. MY Question is: Can I plug in my generic power supply (12.2VDC) directly into the camera? The on/off switch will be in-line on the cable going from the power supply to the camera? This configuration will help me run the camera remotely. so what is wrong with the setup? Thanks for your support... Arthur!

Hey Guys. I haven't shot on 16mm for quite some time. Picked up a H16 EBM, Just wondering wha the process for unloading is from the EBM, as on the old reflexes, you disengaged the motor and then wound back the film, not to sure what to do on this body. it also doesn't have the spindle... any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Mitch

FS: Arriflex 16SR, Arri Sound Blimp & Bolex Accessories
T Sanders posted a topic in Cine Marketplace
Hello Everyone, Well last year I was selling a bunch of gear before moving to South America. Some of it never sold and I'm back in the States for a short visit and still need to go ahead and try to get rid of it instead of letting it sit in my storage unit. I need to have all this sold before May 12th. I've tried to price them as low as I can to get rid of them quickly. There is some wiggle room for some of the more expensive items. Reasonable deals can be made if buying several items. There are no shipping costs for local pickup in Valrico, Florida. Arriflex 16SR + Accessories - $800 + $50 shipping It works fine and it works great with the blimp below. I bought this used from a dealer. The viewfinder is clear with no yellowing. The camera runs smoothly. 1 - Arriflex 16SR 16mm motion picture camera 1 - Eyepiece with eye cup 2 - 400' cartridges 1 - Battery Adapter 1 - Power cable 1 - Power adapter for plugging the camera into an outlet, NO LENSES ARE INCLUDED. ARRI BAYONET MOUNT. THIS IS NOT A SUPER 16 CAMERA. Arri Talbot SR Sound Blimp - $400 + $50 shipping 1 - Arri Talbot SR Sound Blimp with connector cables inside I'm selling a very unique Arri Talbot Sound Blimp for the Arriflex 16SR camera. It reduces the noise level to absolute ZERO! When the camera is inside, you plug in the wires and you are able to completely control the camera from the buttons on the outside of the blimp. The blimp also has rails on the front. I've never seen one of these anywhere else. It's extremely heavy so you'll have to use it on a heavy duty tripod. If you want to buy the Arriflex SR16 and the Sound Blimp together - $1000 + $100 shipping https://www.etsy.com/listing/195118392/arriflex-16mm-film-camera-sale-arri I also have some items for the Bolex Rex5 & Rex4: Bolex Rex 5 Film Magazines - $250 + $40 for shipping You can own two film magazines for your Bolex Rex 5 including a leather sound cover and vintage carrying case today! These film magazines allow you to use 400' rolls of 16mm film with your Bolex Rex 5. They are in good condition and work great. *Note the grey & color cards and scrims in the pictures are not included. https://www.etsy.com/listing/287265553/bolex-film-magazines-sale-16mm-film Sound Blimp for a Bolex Rex 4 - $200 + $40 shipping You can own a custom made sound blimp for your Bolex Rex 4 today! It reduces the noise made by the Rex 4 to near zero. There is a non-crystal sync motor inside that works. Only a Bolex Rex 4 will fit inside this housing. A replacement rubber collar is needed for the power cable to seal it in the opening. Front glass is cracked (not shown in the photos) and will need to be replaced. https://www.etsy.com/listing/273635904/bolex-sound-blimp-sale-custom-16mm-film Shipping costs listed are for buyers in the lower 48 states. I know many of you may be in other countries and as long as we can work out shipping costs, I will ship to most counties if using Etsy to pay. You must cover the full cost of shipping. If in doubt, please ask. Thanks. Shipping for heavy items will be done via Amtrak: Amtrak is a great, safe way to ship heavy items. You can pay by credit card or Paypal through Etsy. If you don't want to pay through Etsy, and you want the item(s) shipped to one of the lower 48 states, I can accept payments via Stripe as well. Billing and shipping addresses must be the same. Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions about any of these items and I will answer as best I can. -
Reticle for Bolex Viewfinder - Cine16 gate 2.2 : 1
Arthur Sanchez posted a topic in Cine Marketplace
I have the first prototype installed on a Bolex REX... eliminated the mask and have a line on the ground glass defining the exposed gate area. I think the lines should be thinner... -
I have a Bolex Rex5 that I'm having a focus problem with. Consistent across several rolls of film the fist 15 frames of film waver in and out of focus before finally settling on a just-out-of-focus image which is holds for the remainder of the shot, almost just a soft focus. It is incredibly noticeable when text in in the image. Is this something one would see if the the pressure plate on the gate was not closed properly? I like to to think I didn't improperly close the pressure plate for several rolls of film, but I suppose anything is possible...

Hello Again, Dr. Bolex here again, Anybody have any suggestions on an ALTERNATE power supply for the Bolex EBM's? Since the standard issue battery is not cheap but worse very hard to find. SO, what about a simple 12V 3A DC power converter plugs into any 110 AC outlet. Then can be plugged directly in the camera... Also an option is to have batteries for use in the field. Thought?... what am i missing?
-
Hey camera people!!! Some EBM cameras have battery power supply... anyone have any thoughts on just switching that out for a regular 12V power supply like what's on you laptops. only gotcha i see is you need power!... these batteries that are made for it are expensive and hard to find. Well I was going to do that to the EBMs unless someone can tell me why not! Thanks, Your replies are welcome, Arthur!

Super 16 Reflex Bolex H16... The conversion has been made and ready for action!
-
Sorry for repeating. I think this is more proper to be here. - Hello, Recently I bought the bolex H16 rex5. But I am not sure if the viewfinder is okay. From its appearance it is 10x viewfinder. Hope I can get some advices from seniors here. First of all it has lever on the side but I can see the image very well when it is vertical position! And the horizontal position, it become very dark. But still I can see the image and specially bottom 30% parts become really dark. When I remove the lens and rotate turret, from the front side I can recognize lights through the prism glass. The light comes from viewfinder behind(usually where my eye should place there), so I can imagine the film will be damaged if I put the lever vertical position. When I change the lever horizontal position, I can sense from the front side the light is blocked somehow. Actually still I can see the dark image through the viewfinder. Also what I found strange is, when I turn the lever horizontal position I have to rotate lever forward direction(lens side, not to the eye side). I checked all bolex images, it seems completely opposite from other cameras or manual pictures. Here the summaries and my questions, 1. Is it possible the viewfinder lever works the other way around that horizontal position is closed but vertical position is openning the view? 2. Even if it is possible, but is it still normal that I can see the darken images through the closed viewfinder?(horizontal) 3. If the viewfinder has a problem, can I use the side-attachable viewfinder instead of this?(if so, I might block original viewfinder to avoid fogging damages) Thanks for reading, Best,yj

I have here a Bolex H16 Supreme model. The camera is in excellent working condition (SN# 104670) made in 1954. and has been TESTED by shooting 16mm film with it. The results were GOOD. The camera threads/loads easily and runs smoothly. All the glass/view finder are clean and clear of fungus. The camera threads/loads easily. Includes a 100' take up spool and the the Bolex Octameter Director's viewfinder. A great accessory to check your shots at 16, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150mm viewing depths. I'm asking $175. USD - OBO plus shipping. NOTE: I timed camera with a full wind and set at 24 FPS... RUN TIME: 26 sec. + - one second... The springs drives strong and consistent. NOTE: the camera has been recently serviced and lubricated and tested by the Dr.Bolex Camera Service within the past 60 days. Please feel free to ask about any details. Thanks for looking!

This forum is abound with requests for cheep 16mm cameras. Very few however broach the subject of sound. I'm looking for a camera with sound sync and a reflex view finder. I have four 100' roles in my freezer so it would be beneficial to be able to use them as apposed to a camera that only shoots 400' roles. I've shot two short films using the Canon Scoopic. Both projects where dialogue free. From what I've been told there's no good way to sync sound to them. In fact, I was told if you tried the sound would become desynced. is this true? I'm looking for a camera under $500 that has sound sync and a reflex view finder. I'm currently looking at a Bolex M5 with a reflex zoom lens but it's a bit more than i'd like to spend.
