It's in great condition, I've never had a single issue with it. It was serviced by Arri about 2 years ago, right before I bought it. Hello Group, A couple of times I heard that 35mm 2-perf is an excellent alternative to Super 16mm film. Lately I discovered some sources (facebook), where older, used film cameras are being sold in near perfect condition - for very accessible prices (no glass though). No worries: I won't buy anything without making 100% sure I know what I will get. I am obviously on a budget, but doing all the math: 35mm 2-perf (even with the sides cropped to 1.85:1 or 16:9) seems to be excellent value for money since the improvement regarding grain and resolution is clearly visible and the price for film stock and procesing is only slightly higher - I get about 22 minutes from a 1000ft load of readily available 35mm camera film stock. My only two concerns: I can't afford a modern camera which has a -perf option factory built-in (such as some Aaton models). So I was thinking of the expertly converted Arriflex 53 IIC, which was used very successfully as a Techniscope camera and is great (if not as great as modern cameras) for hand held. And I don't know if 2-perf scanning is easy to come by. Let alone the price for good glass. I have no idea which focal length is considered standard (when assuming that 50mm is the average standard for 35mm spherical and 25mm for 16mm. That would make it for Techiscope around 38mm I suppose (?). Any suggestions (including talking me out of the idea) highly appreciated. Please take into consideration that I am located in the EU (the good stuff is usually all in the US). Merry Christmas to all members of this great board. Trying to get a low noise image with the f55 but finding lots of noise in the shadows. I posted earlier exposure tips but any thoughts on how to get less noise in the shadows especially during a low light shoot.

Hey guys, I haven’t been on here for a while. I’m looking for some advice. Sorry if this is long winded…It’s been in my head for a while. I’m a Scottish DP based in Hong Kong and I’m thinking about relocating back to the UK & trying to get into production work. A bit about me : I have an undergrad in Film from 20 years ago and about 10+ years experience in the camera side of production…everything from AC to Gaffer to DP but mainly on small productions - loadsa of Short films, Indie Music Vids & tons of corporates. (I’ve shot corporates & Indie stuff in about 12 different countries.) I haven’t shot very regularly for a few years after a back injury took me out & I ended up getting a very well paid job in another field. When I recovered I didn’t want to continue shooting corporate jobs but I have been teaching Cinematography at a Film School part time and that’s fired me up again. I’ve always wanted to work in the scripted TV/Film drama genre but there just aren’t many opportunities here in Honkers for non-locals and I feel like there are no options to progress – I really should have left 10 years ago. I’m single, getting on a bit - 40+, female with no strings attached…no debts etc... So my question : How would someone with my years of filming experience but no real 'industry' experience fair in the UK film production scene? I've lived outside the UK for about 17 years so I’m considering taking an MA in Cinematography partly to acclimatize myself back into the country & partly to network for industry contacts plus I do enjoy teaching film and Masters would allow me to teach college classes if things didn’t work out.... BUT I’m not sure if I should go this route? It’s quite a lot of money to put out…OR …would I be better keeping my money to support myself while I just try to network on my own to get contacts & production jobs. In terms of work I have no delusions of turning up & getting DP work and I would have no prob starting at the bottom of a cam dept or even a rental house, I just want to work in the camera dept with good crews but is it realistic for someone in my position and age to try to re-start a career that's been on & off for 2 decades & what route do I take? Thanks for any thoughts or advice...harsh, truthful or difficult...I'd like to hear peoples honest opinions so i can make an informed decision...

Dear friends, I am sorry to part with this camera - but it is necessary! This tool Kingsman. The kit includes a body, an objective (it is capable of 5-), and a motor with 25 FPS The camera needs love, care and work. I checked the motor - it works, but I did not do any footage from this camera. but I do not think that something is wrong with her. I want for her $ 1200, but without a cassette and a bottom handle. Hi Guys, Maybe a stupid question, but I work from the standard Conterra harness and have pens, sharpies, tape measure, scissors etc, but always notice other AC's with extremely small rolls of gaffer tape attached to their harnesses that I can't find anywhere online or in rental houses/kit houses etc? They look like 1" gaffer tape, but wrapped around on old 35mm magazine cores strangely? Am I completely missing the mark here haha? Any help appreciated, hank you! Tom

I'm ready to do some tests with my Eclair NPR camera and I have some questions after practicing loading the magazines... Obviously I'm missing something simple and I've spent some time searching yet haven't found the answers so please forgive the basic questions: 1) Can someone explain the importance of the "loop"? It's very specific about 12 images with 6 on each side. I don't think the manual I have explains why this is important and what will happen if the frame count of the loop is incorrect or if it's out of alignment. Will it effect the image? Will there be flickering? 2) Assuming the loop is important, why is it necessary to then press the film into the magazine? (thus reducing the loop, I count 8 frames after my loop is pressed in). The videos I've seen go to some length to detail exactly how the loop is formed... only to quickly say "and then when you're done you press it in and load it onto the camera..." Again please forgive my ignorance and thanks for your patience -B

Well, after four years of valiantly fighting it, I've given in, accepted my fate, and become a Vanman: And she's a blank canvas: I now have to begin the process of figuring out how I'm going to fit her out to cart around all of my crap. First big question for the layout will be - my new Inovativ cart, should I plan to wheel it in through the side doors? Or out the back? And if you've got a nice van fitout that you'd care to share, I'd certainly appreciate any good ideas for shelving/storage solutions that I can steal.

Can anybody recommend a decent camera report app (something that can be used on a Desktop, iPhone, iPad...)? I'm just looking for something that logs: Project, Scene, Take, Date, Camera Settings (ISO, Shutter, WB, Color Prof, Stop, FPS, etc..). Not so much for Metadata or TC. Ideally something that can export as PDF and be moved to dropbox or a drive fairly quick. Thanks for your help!

Hi all, I'm starting prep work for my college thesis at Emerson and I'm researching into the different challenges with shooting the project on film. I'm particularly thinking 16mm, just for budgetary reasons, and can't seem to find a Super 16mm camera that shoots up to 300 fps other than scientific/military cameras. The film is about a track athlete, so I'm wanting to get some very beautiful, frozen moment shots of our talent running. Does anyone know of any cameras that shoot as high as 300 fps? I see most of the HS cameras from Arri only go up to 150 fps. Thanks!

Hi all, I am hoping to get some Cam PA gigs while out in LA for the semester and was just wondering what everyone's perception is of the Camera PA. What are their duties/responsibilities? What is expected of them? Was just looking for some outside input to know what to bring to the table. I imagine it's nothing glorious, and with a good 1st and 2nd, I could see a lot of standing around waiting to help being a reality. Thanks! -
I'll be traveling from LA to Berlin, Zurich, and then back to LA and I was curious if y'all could tell me about the restrictions/regulations of traveling with gear. I'm trying to put together a small camera package that can be put in to the overhead compartment, I know there's some business with lithium ion batteries so that's definitely a concern. Also, any recommendations for cameras of the 4K variety that are compact would be amazing. Thank you in advance!

Hello all, My name is Robert, currently heading into my graduate thesis film production, with a question about shooting two different cameras over one production. During prep with the director, the idea of shooting 2 cameras came up as I was camera testing with a Canon c700 and the Canon Cine Primes, which I have decided to use as an A camera. As it stands, our budget won't allow for a second c700 to act as B camera, however we currently have an f55 w/ Ultra Primes reserved from the school's equipment house. Having tested both cameras, I know that each camera possesses different characteristics and will not match right off the bat. That being said, does having a two-camera setup where the cameras are inherently different make sense given the differences in specs (color space, dynamic range, codex etc.)? Is it feasible given that it can be adjusted in the DI, and would it be possible to get the cameras close during production. Because of the different characteristics and looks, I have toyed with the idea of using each camera situationally based on their given strengths, but in some cases I would need to have a B camera available to support the A camera. I realize that I may be giving myself more work in the long run, and I'm sure there are things I am missing, but I would greatly appreciate any idea, advice and expertise on the topic. Time for me to sell one of my other Super16 camera : - 1 Bolex EL super 16 mm. Converted from normal 16 to S16 by Les Bosher, UK. Used, some small dents on the surface, but the camera works well. I shot one of my first documentary film with it. About settings : from 10 fps to 50 fps, film speed from 25 asa to 1600 asa, built-in lighmeter.
