Hey all - was looking to get some insight as to what other DPs like to test for when given the opportunity to test cameras and lenses for picture. Even as far as to what tools you might recommend using to help the testing process like a light meter, etc. For this purpose let's assume the test is for digital camera bodies. I'll soon have access to a RED V-Raptor 8K for testing and my personal Fuji X-T4. Two completely different camera bodies but for myself I really want to compare the dynamic range and how far I can push them in the post-room when comparing the two. I'd like to place them in high contrast lighting situations - anyone have any insight here as to what they like to do/use? Is there anything else you would test for? I'll also have access to a set of IronGlass lenses - rehoused vintage soviet lenses. Anything in particular you test for or even a high-level/general idea of your mindset going into a lens test? Testing for how images look like wide open versus closed down, flaring, etc. Any insight here would also be greatly appreciated. Links to other videos or tests would be welcomed too. Thank you all.

Hello, does anyone know if the lomo foton-a front anamorphic zoom covers the 8k 6:5 mode on the red monstro or v-raptor?

Hi fellow cinematographers, I'm looking for the (somewhat hard to find) 26mm Kern Switar Preset lens in the final black version with multicoated glass. I need the optics to be in a good shape but body doesn't matter that much. I desperately need to complete my lens set. I'm looking for anyone that has this lens but I'd prefer to buy from someone in Europe/EU (that would be perfect!) or the UK. But I'm open to discussing importing it from US as well. Please message me here on the forums so we can eventually discuss the sale in more detail. Thank you very much for any leads on this! Marek

Hi, I've recently noticed a small blemish in the top left corner of the image when I use my Angenieux zoom lens (filming with my Arriflex 16mm camera). The blemish does not appear on the other lenses and has only very recently (on my last shoot in January) become apparent. Anybody know what it could be?

For lens cleaning, somebody says only lens expert can clean the lens because if non expert clean lens, the coating on lens removes quickly. So he said avoid it. But now it looks really dirty.. i have a question on this moment. can we just clean the lens really often with lens tissue with Panchro? Or should we send the lens to expert? Is there big difference? Do the lens experts in Rental shop have special technic or special lens cleaner?

This lens is in excellent optical condition: it's rare to find such a clean 25mm Series III lens with high serial number starting with a 7, making it among the last made, since you won't find any Panchro serial numbers starting with an 8. I'd say this is an excellent candidate for rehousing (ex. TLS). While it has a *tiny* amount of contamination (barely visible), that would be cleaned out during a rehousing. There's only the lightest/smallest cleaning marks (light scratches in the coatings) in the front/rear elements. No haze, no fungus, no yellowing, no oil on the iris blades, no scratches or cracks or pits that I can see. Mechanically, focus and iris are reasonably smooth, but I would always recommend rehousing. I shot a project on a set of freshly serviced (but unrehoused) CSP lenses years ago and they all exhibited some image shift when pulling focus - and I'd guess this lens would be the same. I ended up planning all my shots without focus pulls. This lens is Arri Standard Mount. TLS makes a very nice Arri Standard to PL adapter (Duclos Lenses sell it in the US). But as I said, I always recommend rehousing. In my experience, the PL mount adapters only make the focus movement less smooth, and they sometimes collide with internal baffles on cameras, like Alexas. This lens has been kept in a lens dry box (electronic humidity controlled) since I bought it in mid-2019, and I never got to actually use it besides a quick test. The previous owner clearly had it serviced with fresh yellow paint and focus gear added, but I don't know what year that was, and I noticed there's a bit of a gap where the gear screws together (it may just needs tightening). Front and rear lens caps included. I'd prefer an in-person NYC sale. I can also ship within the U.S. (2nd preference) or abroad (3rd preference) if you pay the PayPal fees and shipping with insurance. I may also be able to coordinate an in-person sale in Los Angeles through a friend. Pictures: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmXbqKyb

$3500 AUD I'm located in Sydney, Australia but happy to post anywhere SEE PHOTOS HERE - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aicH2CFb02xUNPTZQrkwJC3l35GU15yL?usp=sharing Anamorphic lens setup in excellent condition! All glass is clean and without dust and fungus. Regretful sale to be perfectly honest. I love this lens setup! See some ungraded framegrabs of a short film I shot with this lens build. ***Canon FD lens NOT INCLUDED*** In photo just to show what attaching a taking lens looks like. Items included: • Kowa 16-H 2x anamorphic projection lens •Rectilux Hardcore DNA single focus diopter + thumbscrew • Redstan 52mm clamp • HTN Lock Ring (replaces the Kowa 16-H metal ring on front of lens to be able to attach to Rectilux HDNA) • Lens caps for all • Vivitar 86mm close-focus diopters (+1, +2, +4, +10) • Waraxe lens support for 15mm rails Again ***Canon FD lens NOT INCLUDED*** Just need a taking lens to attach to the Redstan clamp (52mm male filter thread) and you're ready to roll! Will fit any lens with a 52mm filter thread. I often added a step up ring from some of my lenses with 49mm filter thread as well. Works just as well. Maybe I'll throw in a Mir 1 37mm 2.8 lens + MFT adapter as a little gift for the person who buys at the listed price!

Hi, everyone! Gonna be shooting a film with a look rooted in Jazz photography from the likes of William Claxton, Dennis Stock and others known for the marvelous images they created around that beautiful genre. Obviously, the film's aesthetic's going to borrow a hell of a lot from these great photographers... However, what I'm most interested in is the B&W film stocks that were around the time in which the most iconic artists were photographed: the 1950s. So, on the one hand, what I'm wondering is if there's anyone in the room with an idea about the the rolls of B&W film available at that time and their characteristics. But on the other hand, I'd like to know if anyone knows where can I find information on the way these photograpers worked, which is to say the lenses and equipment they used, the way they developed their film and created they final shot in the darkroom, etc. Also welcome is information on the film stocks used to shoot movies or documentaries around the 50s. My guess is even at that time Double-X was the real deal, but... You know. A guess is a guess.

I have an 8mm Illumina (Optar) lens for sale. It's in B mount for super 16mm sensor/film. I bought this lens to begin a set with but then found a complete set for sale, so this one is no longer needed. I'm asking £1620 + shipping for it. It is a rare lens and in excellent condition. I can provide more pictures if needed. Shipping will be charged at the cost, insured and signed for. I'm also happy to meet the buyer and exchange. I'm based in Hampshire UK, often working in London if that suits the buyer to meet there. This is me.. http://davidcawleydop.com Please contact via email david@davidcawleydop.com Regards, David Cawley DoP
