  1. A bit of background, I'm justing starting out in my career and I'm looking to learn the equipment and make some contacts. I was talking to a local rental house about a upcoming rental, and they told me about staff on vacation and them being busy (to explain why they didn't reply in time). This lead me to the idea of helping out for few days to gain experience as I'm free around christmas, no school and aren't much productions I can work on either (most of them are German speaking and I don't speak German well enough). The problem is that since I'm also a customer there, would this complic
  2. Hey there, I was wondering if anyone here has any idea as to how much the Alexa 65 (not just the body, a ready to shoot package) goes for on a weekly rental rate? Considering it's been around for a few years now, that there a lot more bodies, etc, I figure the numbers have gone down substantially. Saw numbers here and there between 5 & 10K a while back which I guess made sense at the time. Seeing as it's being used now on several TV series (lately The Haunting Of Hill House on Netflix), and on more indie minded films, I figure it must be somewhat affordable. What's confusing to
  3. Hey folks, been lurking around here for little over a year now. This is my first post looking for insight, not sure if this fits here or should be elsewhere. I'll be shooting on a really low budget (~25k) feature in Mississippi this fall. I'm located and have been working primarily in Arizona, and neighboring states here and there. We are looking for a camera package and naturally, we don't have the money to pay full rate or even half rate. I'm not expecting to shoot on anything high end. I would just like to put together a reliable package that is able to produce the images I'm lo
  4. I am looking for a source in the San Francisco Bay area to rent anamorphic lenses besides Chater and Element camera. Sometimes they don't have them available. Thanks
  5. First time poster here. I just purchased a Dana Dolly rental kit (dana dolly, travel case, two lowboy combos, 5' of EMT track, and a Benro fluid tripod head). It's my first big purchase and I'm renting it out for the first time for an indie short film. It cost me $1,900 total and my plan is to rent it out enough to make money off of it, and eventually have it be passive income. If anyone has any tips for renting it out as far as websites to list it on, or any other ideas to expand my market, I'd greatly appreciate it. I plan on renting it for $100 a day. I live in the DC area, so if y
  6. Hi all, I know that a very recent post asks the same question,.. but I have different & more specific requirements: I have recently been hired in as a consultant to the biggest (not very big) rental in a country with barely any.. to help them streamline their activities, professionalize their technicians and grow. The site is small and the inventory not very big. Though they do have more than decent equipment and plan to invest in more, most of their "technicians" have very limited knowledge and know-how. They still do everything by hand and don't use barcoding, ..but the growing indust

  10. Hey guys! I hope you are all doing well. I have a short film coming up soon that will be on the C300 mk1 (due to my film school's availability) and I am looking for some advice on using them with the Hawk 1.3x V-lites. It seems that it should work in theory but have not seen any examples of people doing this in the past. Since the C300 mk1 does not have a desqueeze, I already anticipate having to get a third party monitor (SmallHD?) to desqueeze. Also they seem to be quite a hard lens to track down even here in Los Angeles. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to find th

  18. I'm really excited to let you know about a new project I've just set up, Manned Camera Limited. http://mannedcamera.com I have been making amateur films for a number of years, and aspire to becoming a professional cinematographer in time. With that in mind, a little while ago I gave up my day job and began making corporate videos (usually about power-kiting in one form or another - one of my other passions). The corporate work paid a few bills, but the trouble was that I was working in a vacuum, and felt that I never really had many opportunities to gain experience in the areas tha
  19. Hi, Fishing for some information here... I am going to Lyon France around the end of the month to help a friend out with a project as his cameraman/dp, and I am hoping to travel light with just my camera and tripod, and hopefully rent on location. It's a small project and I doubt I'll be looking for much, maybe a small hmi or a few kinos or the French equivalent, things like that... I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with rental houses in France, more specifically in the Lyon area? I did a google search but didn't find much, but maybe I don't have the right vocabulary for these

  21. Hello all, I'm new to the forum as I recently purchased a Sony F5 package, a decision made for our production of an upcoming indie film. After getting hands on this product I am blown away. What a beautiful image. In looking at lens options on a budget I'm drawn to the Angenieux 25-250 T3.9 from the mid 70's (no135 and up). Does anyone have experience using this lens on a digital cinema camera at 4K or above? I want to say "if it was good enough for Kubrick it is good enough for me." I understand the exterior zooms in Barry Lyndon were all shot on this lens. Thanks and I lo
