Brian Hulnick Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Unfortunately I missed this theatrically. However, I will be getting this when it comes out on Blu-ray. Only recently watched No Country For Old Men and thoroughly enjoyed it so the Coens are growing on me.
Brian Hulnick Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Found a cinema showing True Grit so am gonna watch it tomorrow.
Brian Hulnick Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I really enjoyed True Grit. The banter between Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges characters was priceless. The girl played her character very well. Look forward to owning on Blu-ray come June.
Markshaw Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 True grit was good, not outstanding. I suppose the Westerns genre is not my favorite. It had its moments though.
Brian Hulnick Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 After reading the transcript of an interview between John Wayne and Time life magazine I have to admit the "Duke" sickened me. His blatantly bigoted views on African Americans and also Native Americans. He said that he agreed with the way Whites took their land and annihilated them. Quote: we wanted the land, they were in our way, we had the right to take it from them. Makes me wanna puke. Glad the **(obscenity removed)** is dead and buried.
Markshaw Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon's characters reminded me of the Odd Couple or an old married couple, very funny.
Brian Hulnick Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Just Pre-ordered the Steelbook from Amazon.de. Cool looking cover.
Markshaw Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 The Cohen Brothers are beginning to grow on me. I liked No Country For Old Men.
Brian Hulnick Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I actually enjoyed the cinematography on this and NCFOM, especially the extended periods where the camera just focussed on one area with nothing happening. Made a nice change from all the fast action camera moves we have been seeing on movies such as Battle for L.A. (although that style did suit the movie)
Brian Hulnick Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 http://www.deakinsonline.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1649&p=8219&hilit=grit#p8219 Â Yeah, they were very strange shots. I'll have to watch it again for sure, but it seemed like the background of trees & sky didn't match properly with the camera movement, or perhaps just didn't seem natural to the actors' and horse's movement. Â Isn't that a Coen Brothers trademark. Things slightly off kilter, not quite right?
Markshaw Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 No Country For Old Men had a lot of "weird" shots, but they suited the style of the movie.
Brian Hulnick Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I could never really get into Largo, just seemed to meaner along.
Brian Hulnick Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Sorry, brain asleep I meant Fargo. It never really did any thing for me.. I tried, honestly. Maybe I should revisit it again.
Markshaw Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 The only scene I didn't like was when Rooster goes into the native American's house and shoves the kid off the step. Didn't like that. Really liked the movie though.
Daniel Jackson Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I'm not against remakes as long as they respect the original, yet try to add something a little different. Don't just want a facsimile of the original. I have to admit tho, I'm a little tired of all these horror movie remakes and reinventions, pretty lazy if you ask me.
Brian Hulnick Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 My Blu-ray Steelbook is on its way from HMV.uk so will watch again, hopefully this weekend.
Anthony Schilling Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Saw it the other night on DVD and really liked it. The look of the film was really nice, outdoor scenes looked very bright but with lots of latatude and detail. IMDB states 5217 and 5219 as usual but Kodak posted on FB that it was shot on Vision 3 250D.
Shawn Martin Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 (edited) IMDB states 5217 and 5219 as usual but Kodak posted on FB that it was shot on Vision 3 250D. Deakins was interviewed in British Cinematographer and he said 5217 and 5219. Kodak says that here too. Edited June 22, 2011 by Shawn Martin
Brian Hulnick Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I can't believe not only did my Steelbook arrive late, it also arrived dented. It's OOP now so cannot get a replacement. Arggg
Daniel Jackson Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 A great movie that gets better on multiple viewings.
Alexandros Angelopoulos Apostolos Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 So... The match was a match or augmented with something?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted January 28, 2017 Premium Member Posted January 28, 2017 It's a real match but Deakins has often said that if you want a brighter flame when striking a match, bundle two or three together, so maybe it's more than one. 1
