Brian Drysdale
BlackMagic have announced two new cameras. From the 4k URSA it seems like they've taken on board the ergonomics comments and produced something in the F5 style. http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursa They also have what they describe as the world's smallest broadcast camera http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicstudiocamera
Michael LaVoie
Finally, a BMCC I can consider. Although the fixed flip out 10" LCD screen is guaranteed to be the first element to get damaged during production. Never understood why those flip out screens aren't detachable for easy positioning anywhere on the camera.
Matt Grover
The URSA looks pretty good! Some minor niggles with the layout and shame there's no VF option apart from 3rd party, but for what they're trying to do with it, it's pretty impressive, having an EF AND B4 system with the same body?! Be interesting to see how much they'll charge for the sensor blocks as add-ons.
Michael LaVoie
The prices listed include the 4k global sensor. I think this may be a contender to the arri amira theoretically. Practically probably not. Different market.
Premium Member Matthew W. Phillips Posted April 7, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted April 7, 2014 The Black Magic URSA seems to have a decent form factor...unlike the other cameras which look funny IMO. I have always liked BM cameras footage compared to competitors but never liked the look of the camera itself.
Site Sponsor Robert Houllahan Posted April 7, 2014 Site Sponsor Share Posted April 7, 2014 The AJA camera looks pretty good... http://www.aja.com/en/products/cion Probably will work out of the box too...
Matt Grover
The AJA looks very interesting as well, covers a couple of the ergonomic niggles I have with the URSA, plus better codec selection

Premium Member Peter J DeCrescenzo Posted April 15, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted April 15, 2014 My take on the URSA (I'm not a fan): URSA: 3 monitors? Seriously?
Brian Drysdale
My thought is that removing a couple of monitors might get its weight closer to 12lbs. However, you can double stack V lock batteries, so that you don't lose power.and they help balance the camera.
