Hi Tim i guess that night was a really nightmare... I shoot with this camera some projects last year, the camera is really slow and needed a lot of light (ASA 125) worst loosing 3 more stops. I think you was working at 64 ASA AT NIGHT!!!!!! :o wow thats a lot of light... I agree with you first TEST always test... Best Xavier Plaza

When you have two person in your frame (middle shot) that' s called two shot. I think when you have 3 persons in your frame depends how wide your shoot it is. Could be a wide shot or a medium shot, but i believe that don't have a particular name like in the case of "two shot" Take a look of this book is useful i read so many times... http://www.amazon.com/Film-Directing-Visua...2697&sr=8-1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_shot Xavier Plaza

Shooting in Slow motion
Xavier Plaza replied to a topic in Students, New Filmmakers, Film Schools and Programs
Hi Kevin great footage, just one doubt, when you shoot at 500 or 1000 fps, what kind of light did you use?. I guess tungsten obviously and the source have to be big, i think 5k and 10k minimum to avoid flicker, or you use HMI i think using HMI you win useful power (more than tungsten) but in the same way you win flicker ??? Well any way great footage... Thanks Xavier Plaza -

Hi Andrea once again all depends where you shoot. If you shoot in Spain there they use a different translation of this words, the same happens in Argentina. I prefer use the words in english an then translate to spanish to avoid any misunderstood. Jonathan i agree with you unless the first and the second words, the others are ok, just one more thing you can use the same name dolly in spanish or english the people would understand... Best Xavier Plaza Just in case you speak spanish: Hola Andrea una vez mas depende el pais donde filmes. Pan Paneo 2. Tilt Picado o Contra Picado 3. Crab (left/right/forward etc) I don't know what are you talking...? but as Jonathan say this mean cangrejo jeje 4. Crane (up/down) Grua 5. Dolly, and dolly up/down Carro, dolli, 6. Wide-angle lens lente angular 5. Telephoto lens tele o telefoto 6. Neutral Density ND o densidad neutral 7. Dolly tracks rieles o carriles

And the second what a great sequence when the camera see 5 characters (traveling zoom in & out) in the casino i guess in the middle of the movie, wow it was awesome, i think Brad could comment about that movement, any way i like it ...

If You Could APPRENTICE with ONE CINEMATOGRAPHER Now...?

Paul Cameron, Robert Richradson, Rodrigo Prieto, Harry Savides, Emmanuel Lubezki, Chris Doyle and Claudio Miranda... -
As Chris say Full CTB is what you need. Be carfull because when you use a lot this filters they loose the original color. When you use film is better use new filters

Using a light meter with a still camera (manual mode) could be a good choice. You can learn how react the film to lights (day, tungsten, fluo). Try mixing lights but first learn the basic things... i donĀ“t think using a still camera could give you all the knowledge about filming motion pictures. I think you can learn/parctice about composition and lighning, but that all you can take advantange... Good Luck

Hi guys, i search on the web and i don't find anything. Anybody knows where i can find a gamma curve HVX200 (graphic) or the differences between the gamma options (graphic) thanks

I think MSE (matthew) grip is the best option. Curios a lot of grip equipment have the same MSE characteristics... I never have any problem with Avenger but in the battlefield MSE is your ally...

Top ten lies cinematographers tell anyone...??? 1.- that is all the equipment that I need... do you have another...? TOP TEN LIES EDITORS TELL PRODUCERS 10. It?s just a preview glitch. 9. It?s out of the safe area, you?ll never see that on the air. 8. It won?t really look like that. 7. I?ll fill out the paperwork tomorrow. 6. Why no, I don?t mind working on Saturday. 5. Oh, don?t go by that monitor. 4. It works better as a cut. 3. That glitch is on the source tape. 2. I?ll have all your changes done by the end of the day. 1. No, I agree. It?s much better that way. TOP TEN LIES PRODUCERS TELL THEIR EDITORS 10. It?s pretty simple. It should only take an hour. 9. Budget? Don?t worry about it. 8. Feel free to be creative with this. 7. I only need a couple dubs. 6. The network will love it. They won?t make any changes. 5. I?m positive we?ve got that shot on another tape. 4. I?ve never had this problem anywhere else I have edited. 3. Could I see it just one more time? 2. I thought you?d be able to just paint it out. 1. How hard could it be? TOP TEN LIES EDITORS TELL OTHER EDITORS (when they pick up the second half of a session) 10. It?ll only take about an hour to render. 9. I?ve pre-built all of the chyron. 8. It should only go a couple of more hours. 7. I?ll be at home. Call me if you have any questions. 6. The producer has been really organized so far. 5. All of the decks are working perfectly. 4. The list has been working great. 3. I?ve had no problems with this Avid. 2. Don?t worry, the credit roll is short. 1. I?ve already done the hardest parts. Provided by http://www.capria.tv/

Day for Night in the Forest
Xavier Plaza replied to Nathan Blair's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
You're do it on video, right? First test until you obtain what you want. Second, i think ND filter (degraded) is the right choice or you also can do it on transfer (expensive choice) or perhaps on post (color correction). Check 55mm plug in they have a night look. -
Tungsten key for late day exteriors...acceptable?
Xavier Plaza replied to M Joel W's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
Your option sound interesting. Perhaps a 2K backlight (far) with CTO 1/4, help as the ambiance light... -
yes, you`re right Chris i forgot specify PAR fixture...Natalie take a look on arri website the Arri photometric calculator...
-
Hi Natalie, well HMI have about 5 times more useful light than tungsten lights, 1.2K HMI have similar power than 5K tungsten light. You can see the differences in Arri photometric chart (do it like exercise)
