  1. What's the place look like at night? When possible if it's a night scene, best to scout and photograph these things at approximately the time you intend to shoot. Also consider the phase of the moon on the night or night you intend to shoot there.
  2. While the fate of this discussion is ultimately up to Tim Tyler, I'd vote to let it stand as a reminder of a seller with unscrupulous practices.
  3. Broken ribs....wonder how that happened? I sincerely hope you get your lenses before the seller suffers a more serious accident.
  4. What make, model and size generator was the HMI on? Tow plant or putt-putt?
  5. That's a lot of money to piss away for a working prop. You might think about hiding a small open face fixture inside of the 5K.
  6. Yes to the 2K, you can put a 1500w globe in it, but you can also run the 2K as is off a 20A circuit. Re-lamping the 5K would be more complicated. It would require a socket change and a riser to bring the 2K socket up to the point where the filament would be centered in the reflector.
  7. Trying soaking it off with hot water and strong detergent. You might have to mechanically rub off the residue, but you don't want to create any scratches in the glass. In the future....scrims and ND of various strengths is what I'd recommend. Cheaper and quicker...
  8. Everyone wants to say they've used them, appropriate for the shoot or not. They're fun to play with too.
  9. DMX control would give you a lot more options than just color temp or intensity. Duplicating a small subset of the functions on the ballast doesn't make sense from a cost and benefits perspective. Adrian, if I could re-engineer the thing for you would. You feedback and that of others really needs to be made known to ARRI. If there's going to be a more user friendly Mark II version, that's the sort of input that will drive that change.
  10. Buy a pocket dmx unit and all the controls are at your fingertips. Run it off your smartphone.
  11. Specifically what would you change? Have you considered sending feedback to ARRI?
  12. How much time have you spent test driving one? A combo stand, stirrup hanger or junior pipe clamp handles the modest weight with no problems. Buy? Rent, that's what rental houses are for. Will you be using it every week, three or more days a week? Doubtful.
  13. Where is it being made? Yes, I could probably dig through their website and find the answer or I can just ask here. Rochester, NY? Or is it all being made in bulk in China and repacked here? On another forum, a former Kodak employee is claiming that the plant exists as nothing more than a shell for repackaging and all the equipment was sold off long ago.
  14. Bank transfer is gone, PayPal may have given you some recourse. Where's this clown live?
  15. Much brighter than you think and at a very large throw. I'll have to look up specs for the 1k lamp, it's not the same as an EGT globe or the 240v equivalent.
  16. In the UK: http://www.whitelight.ltd.uk/shop/all-hire-products/followspots/wlflblrv500/ I had a pile of older Reich & Vogel, 24 volt 1K beam projectors. Sadly no transformers to run them on.
  17. Might be hard to find outside of the EU: http://www.pani.com/cms/index.php/en/the-products
  18. IMHO, the regional section is a dead zone. This thread: http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=33627 , five pages of posts and still nothing.
  19. It's made as a rack and the pitch of a rack is the same as the pitch of a gear. Gears mesh at the pitch circle not the tops of the teeth. Pitch error would diminish the closer you get to the rood diameter. OP's problems seems to stem from not setting adequate clearance. The product linked to in the first post is just a crap design.
  20. Gear pitch does not change with diametrical pitch or pitch diameter. If the pitch changes than the gear is cut incorrectly. Gear mesh can be roughly set by rolling one of more strips of printer paper (.003 in.) between the spur gears until you achieve smooth motion
  21. It's not just machining, but TIG welding also.
  22. No, they are not expensive considering the time and workmanship that goes into a speedring. $130 is not a bad retail price for one to fit a 1k.Tungsten. How about a speedring for an M18: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/179161-REG/Chimera_9305_Speed_Ring_for_Quartz.html That's real money.
  23. You weren't specific about where you are shooting. Large lakes, like Michigan and Superior have their own tides and large waves too.
  24. Certainly: http://www.commercial-industrial-supply.com/pipe/schedule-40-pvc.html Any plumbing supply will have it.
  25. Or go to a building construction site and beg a cutoff of 6" or larger PVC and just buy the fittings to complete your housing build.
