  1. Hi guys, am helping out a dear friend with an art project. She asked me to research lenses used in a couple of movies, the first being Psycho. Any clues what they used? Thanks, Dave
  2. Bonjour mes amis! Anyone going to the Micro Salon in Paris this weekend? Would be fun to see you guys there! Regards, Dave PS: Guess you'll easily recognize me... :D
  3. I'll be there too, from tomorrow night till Sunday morning. Text me at +436641127481 if you want to go for a beer or somesuch! Looking forward to seeing you guys! Regards, Dave
  4. +1 what Chris and Jeremy said. The REX-5 is, in my mind, the queen of the H16 Reflexes. Cheers, Dave
  5. That was my first thought too. Hard to check now though... So if you can recreate the effect looking through the finder. Your Bolex is a Reflex, right? Regards, Dave
  6. Dear Robert, do you have a means of scanning and uploading the manual? I am sure loads of folks here on the boards would appreciate that! Best, Dave
  7. Hi David, a couple of years ago we used Christmas fairy lights suspended a little bit above the lens via magic arm. Worked really well and made a unique eyelight ;) Regards, Dave
  8. Hi Shady, thanks. All of these look good. The only thing I don't like about la FEMIS so far, is their age limit. Will be tight for me (30th birthday is coming up next year, getting old...) Any personal experience you could share? Regards, Dave
  9. Ok, seems like the OP also had problems with his use of the III. But good luck anyways! Regards, Dave
  10. Hi Peter, never heard of one being used that way. Why not use an Arri II or something even older? Should be easy to get these days... Regards, Dave
  11. Camera bodies, if well serviced and in good shape, have very little to no effect on the look of a film. Unless you want to use a hand-cranked camera close to 100 years old. THAT would have an impact. Regards, Dave
  12. Hi Rob, you might also wanna have a look at the Dedo 150W/24V dedicated softlight. Very nice output, folds down really small and is light too. And the lamps are amazingly cheap 88 €-cents! Regards, Dave
  13. Hi Michael, as far as I know the coatings on the last black series of lenses where better. Maybe the glass was different too. The Bolex bible says only the black ones were MC for most lenses. IIRC at least some my silver one are multi-coated. But the "normal" silver Presets are quite nice lenses anyways. Regards, Dave
  14. Hi folks, currently looking for Cinematography Master programmes in France. Got a BA (Hons) worth 270 ECTS credits, so I guess I should be eligible for enrolling in a two year programme. What are your recommendations? My French used to be good, needs refreshment though, but I'll take classes before I go. Oh, and I'm closing in on 30, so there should be too restrictive an age limit. Thanks in advance for your input! Merci bien! Regards, Dave PS: Francophone regions are an option too. Switzerland, Belgium...
  15. Hi Don, thanks for the reply. I talked to a couple of folks and have bought two 1k Philips 7768R and will try these. According to Philips these are a replacement for the Osram 64583 and even have a longer life time (+100hrs). Will post problems I run into if any at all. Cheers, Dave
  16. Hi guys, long time no see but seems like I'm back and need your help... My Osram sales rep just told me the other day that Osram discontinued their 64583 1k 230V bulb which I have been using in my beloved Lowel Softlight . What other bulb options are there? Got an idea anyone? Thanks, Dave
  17. Hi folks, have settled in in Brooklyn, Prospect Heights. This is my NYC cell no. 6463872530. Gimme a call or text if you fancy lunch or a beer! Cheers, Dave
  18. Hi folks, I'll be in NYC from June 10 to 27. Anyone up for a beer, lunch, breakfast whatever? Also, I'd be glad to help out on a set if someone is shooting a cool short or so. Looking forward to your replies! Thanks... Regards, Dave
  19. You're welcome... You could easily make your own too! Cheers, Dave
  20. RIP Paul! Your creative input and thinking out of the box will be sorely missed! My thoughts are with your friends & family! Best regards, Dave
  21. That's a film burn. Light leaking into the magazine. Easily added in post with stock footage such as Artbeats Filmglutter... Cheers, Dave
  22. Thanks Freya. Yes, we're quite happy with the footage we got. You can check out the film at Bicycle Film Festival London, if memory serves me. To all you NYC residents here: I'll be coming to the BFF New York City in June. Probably fly in the 14th and stay until the 28th. Anyone got ideas for accommodation? Anyone got a bed to rent? Thanks folks! Cheers, Dave
  23. Hi James, another piece of advice: try and find someone who rents the lenses you're interested in. Rent them. Test them. See if you like their look, then buy them if you must. Prepare to spend some $$ though, Nikkor prices have gone way up in the wake of the red and the HDSLRs. Cheers, Dave
  24. Hi folks, I have been rather quiet on the board the last couple of months and thsi has been a major reason. We shot the film in Febuary this year in the course of two weeks. We're currently editing a long version (~45mins). Our short version has recently been accepted to the 10th Bicycle Film Festival in NYC this June 16-20. Here's a little more info on the film (an excerpt from our Press Kit): "The largest city of the Arab World. Over fourteen and a half million people. The longest river of the World. Cradle of one of the oldest civilizations. Sand. Dust. Dirt. 5 fearless fixed gear pilots. On the hunt. Where are the Pyramids?" We had a team of 5 riders, all of whom are cycle messengers in Vienna and Linz. On the tech side I was supposed to have 5 people, doing additonal cinematography, timelapse, assisting camera et al and a sound guy. A week before we flew over that was reduced to 3 people but I managed to get a B camera operator over there for a couple days to help us out. The film was mainly shot on two Sony PD-150P because we had those cameras sitting around for no cost at all. I was unhappy with shooting DVCAM, but that was all we could afford. We supplemented that with a couple of modded PC-8E Handycams for helmet mounting and the like. I also recorded time lapse with one of my Nikon DSLRs a D80. You can check out some behind the scenes pics on the film's website at www.wherearethepyramids.com There are thrre trailers up on Youtube, so far these have gotten close to 10k hits in the last two months. If you're interesting in getting updates on the project become a fan on Facebookor send me an email and I'll put you on our mailing list. Looking forward to your replies and comment! Cheers, Dave
