  1. Thank you for very interesting information. I study of design of cameras. The any technical information intersting for me. Yes, not good idea compare 16 mm and 35 mm cameras, i wish compare of mechanical design of mechanism. About Aaton 35-III 0.005 mm, I trust not too much. The theoretically, the frame stability of 0.005 mm must have super high precision camera with swinging film channel and fix plate with registration pins. The 0.007-0.008 mm had special camera for trick effects. Possible, Aaton have special technology of test ? I don't know. My favorite from design of transport mechanism and production standards - ArriCam Studio now. I had not too much time to check camera inside, but, i be delighted. SRII 0.013, show like real value. XTR 0.005 and ACL 0.01mm have a some questions. But, i receive this value up to i receive other information.
  2. Hi All. What camera better, Kinor-16 or ACL not distinction in kind. Kinor have one better sides, ACL have other better sides. The every film maker choose best camera for personal use. The original Kinor-16 electrical motor 29EPSS have analog system of speed stabilization ( 2.5 %). The signal from feed back of motor compare with etalon voltage and electronics control of motor speed. If you turn of variable resistor, you change volume of etalon voltage and change speed too. The set of 24 fps very easy. Send me letter on my e-mail olex@a-teleport.com and i will send you picture, what hole you need use. You not need take to pieces of motor or camera, this is hole from outside of motor. The modification of 29EPSS motor on multi speed version with analog system of speed stabilization can have 6 fixed speeds and have price 150 Euros. The more high level of modifications with digital voltmeter and variable speed handle 250 Euros. If you need high precision of speed control ( +/-0.01% ) you need crystal sync speed control. The modification of 29EPSS motor on crystal sync speed with 6, 10, 16 speeds have price from 300 Euros. I have Tobin crystal sync motor with my Eclair ACL 1.5 too. About registration pins, yes, the camera without registration pin can have good volume of frame stability, but, the camera with registration pin have more high volume of frame stability. Kinor have 0.01 mm. The long or short clampin plate not have big influence on stability. The transport pin moving of film, the clamping plate to fix of film only. The volume of stability have stability of film stop point of transport pin ( without registration pin ). If the mechanism have registration pin, the volume of stability give you stability of position of registration pin. You know any precision of 35 mm cine camera without registration pins ? The high precision and high speed cameras have 2 or 4 registration pins. I have not technical characteristics of West cameras, but, i can tell a some about russian 35 mm cameras. Konvas have not registration pin have frame stability 0.02 mm Kinor-35 H have one registration pin - 0.01 mm Drugba ( Mitchell style mechanism ) have two registration pins - 0.01 mm PSK-29 ( fixed pin plate ) have 4 pins - 0.007 mm. From theoretically side, The graph of moving of transport pin of mechanism, have point with not high stability of stop of film ( point of exposing of film ), that's why, the designer to use of registration pin for correction of position of frame. The registration pin have dimension " correction move of frame ". Yes, the original desing of shutter disk of ACL need for receive a short flange focal distance of lens mount. ACL have 17. 53 mm. Kinor-16 52.00 mm. But, I don't know other 16 mm cine cameras with similar design of ACL shutter. My supposition, The design of ACL camera go from design of not reflex cine camera, that's why swinging mirror. I know not history of Eclair cameras. The russian 16 mm cine camera Kiev-16 E have swinging style of mirror too. The other cameras use mirror disk design. I can not confirm, what design of shutter disk better, but, my personal opinion, the mirror disk - better. You can see, I have ACL 1.5 and Kinor-16 cameras too and i use Eclair and kinor. I wish give more technical information only. For note. My Eclair ACL have adapter for set OPF zoom and prime lenses with CA mount. I have 10-150 mm Angenueux, but, not use. I use 16 OPF-12 10-100 mm zoom lens, 6 mm , 25 mm, 50 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm prime lenses of OKS with Eclair and Kinor-16. I use Canon 12-120 mm with Eclair, because, this zoom lens have CA mount. I love Eclair camera too. About 10-100 mm zoom lens with and without 0.75 wide adapter and 6 mm super wide prime lens. The russian 16 OPF-1-2M 12-120 mm zoom lens have very good quality of image too. This lens can have 0.75 wide adapter too. I make a some test. I take Kinor and measuring of width of subject shooting from distance of 1.5 m from camera. The 10-100 zoom lens on 10 mm position show me width 1.2 m The 10-100 zoom lens with 0.75 wide adapter, 7.5 mm show me 1.55 m The 6 mm super wide lens have width 2.7 m The Elcair with Peleng 8 mm have picture with 2.15 m For example Krasnorgosk-3 with 17-69 mm zoom lens , on 1.5 m distance had: position of zoom 17 mm - picture width 0.7 m position of zoom 25 mm - 0.57 m position of zoom 69 mm - 0.19 m. The user of Kransogrosk-3 can compare meteor zoom lens and 10-100 zoom lens.
  3. A some information. Konvas camera not good for stop motion ( animation) shooting. the animation shooting need high precision position of every frame. Konvas have one transport in only. Yes, Konvas can be use for stop motion shooting, but, you need check stabiliy of frame position. Rodina, very good camera, have high precision transport mechanism with pin -registration, but.. very big " BUT, Rodina have mechanism compatible with KS perforsation only ( russian standard of all 35 mm films ). And you can not use Rodina with Kodak negative film without modification of pins of mechanism. The modificaton from KS on B&H perforation have high price. The very good ide of use for shop motion 35 mm russian cine cameras PSK-29, RFK-5, KSK-1. But, will need modify of pins of mechanism too. Other idea, to use Kodak positive film with KS perforation. This is low speed film. You can exposing film of long time or use photo flash. But, you not need modify Rodina camera.
  4. Not worry, all OK, and you have very good dream. But, you need check all sides of this and financial side too. A some digitals for financial calculations. You can buy russian cheap 35 mm cine camera like Konvas-1, or with mechanical spring - AKS-1. This is cameras have price $350..550, but, this is old cameras and can have not good condition for real shooting. You will need pay $500..600 for service and repair of this cameras. You will need buy addiional battery, charger ( $200..300 ). Ok, You have 35 mm cine cameras and ready for shooting. You not wish use professional film processing service, you wish processing a 35 mm film at home. Yes, this real and possible. I can confirm this because i have experience do this. But, you need footages ready for show by cine projector. The telecine transfer and computer post production high price service and this service not for you. That's why, you choice of processing at home on spiral tanks. You can use S8/16 x 50 ft tank 65..100 euros / 1 pcs ( can processing one roll of 35 mm film x 15 m ) or you can use 16/35x100 PRO tank 250..300 Euros / 1 pcs, super rare device ( can processing 35 mm x 30 m of film ) You will need glass lab ware, processing device, film dryer, all on $300..400. You can use : Kodak 5285 color reversal film, the short ends of this film can have price $0.5..0.8 / 1 m You will need 30 m of film for every second of film. For procesisng, you need E-6 5 L set chemistry. I use tetenal 3 batch E-6 set, $65 / set. If you need, i can tell you , how many films can processing 5 L set. And you will have color film, ready for show by cine projector. The oher way, use B&W films, but, we have not 35 mm B&W reversal film, we can use 35 mm B&W negative film with special technology of reversal processing. This is possible. The print of positive copy from negative film complex procedure and need special film printer. Orwo film can be processing with reversal technoligy and other films too. 35 mm B&W negative have not low price too, this can be $0.5..1.2 / 1 m. The set chemistry for processing B&W reversal film availabel for sell too, 15 Euros /1 set. 1 L of chemistry can processing 30 m, of 35 mm film. You can see. This is real idea, but, not cheap and need money. If you have not many money, you can shoot on 16 mm or Super 8. 16 mm B&W reversal films available for sell and you can processing of this film at home. That's why, you can begin of our film making from 16 mm. Super 8 real way too. Super 8 color reversal film can be processing on spiral tanks at home. You can take FOMA DS8, D8 B&W reversal films.
  5. If you wish test of camera and films, you need process film on professional lab only. You need seek a processing lab, who take short end for processing. If you wish test of camera only, you need take set chemistry of C41 ( hobby pack ) and processing a film with C41. Yes, This is not correct technology processing of color negative cine film and you will have problem with black carbon layer, but, you can see pictures on film. But, if you have not experience on processing film, and you have not devices for processing, the processing of color negative film can be complex procedure for you. If you wish test quality of camera, you need take B&W reversal or B&W negative films, shoot and processing film on spiral tank. The technology of processing easy and chemistry available. The very simply test of quality of camera - shoot of test footage on B&W negative film, cut a few short stripes ( 0.6 m ) and use photo spiral tank for processing test stripes. The some spiral processing photo tanks have spiral for 16 mm film too.
  6. I can not agree idea, what Eclair ACL better from Kinor-16. I have Eclair ACL-1.5 and Kinor-16 cameras and can compare this cameras on practice. Yes, of course, this is my personal opinion and you can have other opinion. But, i see mechanism of Eclair and Kinor inside. ACL have registration pin on trasport mechanism ? not ? Kinor-16 have one transport and one registartion pin. ACL have mirror glass disk, not, ACL have one black disk on film plane and second swinging mirror. I don'w know other cine cameras with similar design of mechanism. But, i know many other brand name cine cameras with classical design of mirror disk similar Kinor-16 ( Arri, and other ). This is not correct information about Kinor-16 camera too. The original motor of Kinor-16 camera can be adjust on speed 24 fps easy at 2-5 sec. You need take screwdriver and turn of axis of variable resistor by hole from rear side of motor and you can set speed 24 fps. If you will need, i can tell you where this home and what need control of speed of camera. From other side, the original motor 29EPSS of Kinor-16 camera can be modify on multi speed version and you can order 6 fixed speeds from 12 fps up to 50 fps. This can be speeds for USA TV ( NTSC ) films shooting with speeds 15 fps, 20 fps, 30 fps, 40 fps The next. Kinor-16 can have crystal sync motor with one speed 25 fps. This is motor can be modify on version with 24/ 25 fps speeds, with speed 30 fps. The next. You can modify original 29EPSS motor of Kinor-16 on multi speed crystal sync speed motor. This motor can have a few crystal sync speeds : 6.25, 8, 12, 12.5, 15, 16, 16.6, 20, 24, 25, 30, 32, 33,3, 40, 48, 50 fps. This is list of speeds included speeds for USA ( NTSC ) film shooting, you can use speeds : 8, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32, 40 fps. Yes, the camera with electrical motor need battery and charger and other device. But, after you shoot a few rolls on Krasnogorsk camera and you will have a some discomfort on your hands after re-loading spring of camera, you will think about camera with electrical motor. I not told, if you will need shoot 5..6 rolls of 400 ft film on every shooting day.
  7. Hi Oscar. If you will have not good result of find the processing lab of reversal film, you can process reversal film at home on spiral tanks. If you need, i can give you a some recommendations. I have long time experience on processing film on spiral tanks. You can visit of my site about home film processing.
  8. This is very good idea. You can have a some problem with B&W filming from technical side. You can have problem to find film processing lab with B&W negative processing. You need check this problem with all sides. You can use home film processing of film on spiral tank. This is possible, not complex technology and the chemistry available for sell. You can use special technoly processing and receive unusual pictires. This can be pictures with super high contrast and big grainy, or super soft or any other. But, if you wish have professional quality of footages, you need use service of professional B&W negative film processing machine. The other idea, you need use of color negative film. You not will have problem with processing of color negative film. You can convert color film on the B&W film on post production.
  9. I not agree idea, what Krasnogrosk-1 or Krasnogorsk-3 with bayonet bad choice. K-1 have full similar transport mechanism and viewfinder with K-3. But, K-1 have metal film cartridge and you have permanent protect of your not exposed and exposed film. You can open lid on any time and check of film on film gate and re-load film. If you have a few cartridges with different type of film, you can set cartridge for real subject of shooting and replace film for other subject. You can do this with K-3 ? not, because, every open lid will expose of 1.5 m of film + 0.6 m of film from start and end with loading and discharge. The cine film not cheap now. From other side, if you set spool with strained of disks on K-3, the film will wind bad and you can lost all shooted film. K-3 very good camera, but, K1 trustworthy too. About M42 screw mount and bayonet mount. What lenses can have K-3 with M42 screw mount ? original zoomlens 17-69 mm, wide 8 mm Peleng with big field distortion and many photo lenses. But, all this photo lenses - tele and super tele lenses for 16 mm film shooting. The cine shooting need wide angle lenses. What wide angle lens you can use with M42 ? from Other side, Krasnogrosk with bayonet mount can use original 17-69 mm zoom lens, prime lens of K-1 cameras 12.5 mm, 20 mm, 50 mm, prime lenses of SP-16 cameras 10 mm, 15mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm, modified professional zoom lenses 16 OPF 7.5-75 mm, 10-100 mm. And, the answer, what lens mount better, the personal answer of film maker.
  10. Interestiog question. You need camera for collection or for real film shooting ? If you need camera for real film shooting, how many film you can buy, if you have $350 for cine camera ? 4..8 minutes of film ? The 35 mm film shooting not cheap business. You will need pay money for film, for processing service of film, postroduction, telecine service. You can buy russian Konvas-1 with very low price, but, this can be set of parts, and you will need pay additional money for repair and service of this camera. I think, $1000..1500 more real price for cheap 35 mm camera with condition " ready for shooting ". This can be AKS-1 or Konvas-1. If you real interesting, i can tell you detailed about real cases.

I think, thi scan be russian cine cameras : Krasnogorsk-3 Krasnogorsk-2 Krasnogorsk-1 Kiev-16 UE Kiev-16 E Alpha-16 All this cameras have good technical characteristics and low price and can be use for shoot of high quality footages.   12. I recommend 16 mm cine camera and B&W reversal film with home processing on spiral tank, traditional edit and show with cine projector. The next step, use 16 mm color reversal film with home processing on spiral tank. This is low cost technology of home film making. You not need telecine, computer edit, but, you will have result and can show personal film on big screen.
  13. The flicker can have a few sources. What speed of shooting you use ? What frequency had main power ? 60 hz 59.9hz ? The first problem can be on synchronization of camera speed and main power frequency. This is synchronization very important for HMI lighters with magnetic ballast, because, HMI lighters generate short pulses of light with double frequency of main power. The electronic ballast have more wide square pulses and had of less influence. The second idea. We don't know technical side of modification of motor. If you send me image from inside of motor ( need open lid of motor, unscrew 4 screws) i hope, i can give you additional information. But, If you use speed more 25 fps, the 17EP-16 APK motor, with original electronics or with modern electronics, need battery with voltage more 12 v., need 16..18 v battery. But, i must underline for other user of 17EP-16 APK motor with original electronics, the high voltage battery , more 12 v, can destroy voltage regulator of original electronics, that's why need set additional voltage regulator for chips. The next idea. The mechanism of Konvas cameras to design for use of normal speeds 24, 25 fps. This is mechanism not design for high speeds, that's why, the volume of stability of frame can be not too high for high speed mode. And, the mechanism of camera must have very good balance. But, you told, what you have good qulaity first footages and a some problem on second footage. I think, the balance of camera not change between first and second footages, but, can change of lubrication. The vibration of not balance mechanism can influence on quality of footages too. The mechanical condition of fiml magazines can influence on qulaity of footages too, if the gears of magazine had jammed point. What i think, At first, need check mechanism of camera detailed, check motor, service of mechanism, and test camera on flicker again. But, i think, this is problme of synchronization of camera speed and HMI lighters with magnetic ballast and main power frequency. A many years ago we had some problem with Konvas + 17Ep-16 APK motor and HMI lighters with magnetic ballast. We design of special device for generate speed of camera from a frequency of main power. The motor had AC adapter, take a frequency synchronization from main power and adjust of speed of motor for this sync frequency.
  14. Hi. The many users of Konvas-1M, Konvas-2M cameras have 15 EPSS motors. The original electronics of 15EPSS motor have analog system of speed stabilization with big size power unit and 8.5 v battery. The modern film making ask electrical motors with crystal sync speed stabilization. That's why, the users of Konvas with 15EPSS motor have idea replace motor on 17EP-16 APK motor with crystal sync speed. And , i can propose modify of 15 EPSS motor on crystal sync, multi speed motor. The new version of 15EPSS motor will have original block of DC motors and new, modern, microprocessor module with crystal sync speeds and 6 , or 10, or 16 speeds. The many film makers use HMI lighters with 50 Hz and 60 Hz main power and need series of speeds sync with 50 hz and 60 hz frequency. The original 17EP-16 APK motor have 6 speeds only, 8, 12, 16, 24, 25, 32 fps. The new microprocessor module can have speeds : 6.25, 8, 12, 12.5, 15, 16, 16.6, 20, 24, 25, 30, 32, 33,3, 40, 48, 50 fps. This is new microprocessor module can be use for modify 17EP-16 APK motor and can extend list of speed and add new technical possibility: soft start, manual adjust phase and other. What you think about this modification of 15EPSS motor, The user need this modification ?

You can visit on my site and check infformation about electrical motors of Konvas cameras. 18EP-16APK motor have different speed control electronics and other style of electronics from 17EP-16 APK motor. If you send me letter on olex@a-teleport.com, i can send you more technical ifnormation. I have experience repair of 18Ep-16 APK motor. This is motor have crystal sync speed 24 fps, 25 fps, and variable speeds ( not crystal sync ) up to 32 fps. The motor use 12 v battery for speeds up to 25 fps and additional 12+ 3 v battery for speed up to 32 fps, Have a few modules : crystal sync module, varuable speed module, battery control module, battery. But, you need study of user manual up to connect battery, because, the conenct battery with reversal polarity distroy electronics.
  16. I can add: Quarz 1x8XL camera have high speed zoom lens. This is Karat 8-40 mm F1.2 zoom lens. The zoom lens have macro mode of shooting with short distance 0.8..12 m The zoom lens have manual and electrical control ( auto-zoom ) of zoom. The ground glass of camera have optical wedge. The camera have sensor for load DX code of speed of film from film magzine on light meter of camera. The speed 9 fps, 18 fps, 24 fps and single shooting mode. The camera have color filter ( like 85 ) inside for use of tungsten film for dayligh shooting.
  17. We have similar devices. This is 35 mm cine camera with 2 ( 3 ) perforations claw mechanism. Arri 235 camera have small size like Arri 16SR-3. The idea of 1/2 frame 16 mm can be use wuth DS8 or D8 films. This is films have 1/2 step of 16 mm film. You can take any DS8 or D8 camera, modify size of film gate, set 16 mm lens and you will have other type of cine camera. You need check of axis of shutter disk. But, theoretcially, this is modification possible. From other side, all DS8, D8 cameras - amateur cine camera and have primitive transport mechanism and not high technical characteristics.
  18. If you need shoot of 170000 frames, the SLR mechanical, SLR digital photo cameras would die too. From practical side, photo cameras have not high structural strength. I know this from practical side, because my Epson 850 die after a some time on idea of transfer image from cine film on computer. Possible, professional SLR photo camera will have more long time of life, need check technical information. But, Not any processing lab will take film from you for processing on short ends of less 30 m of film. If you wish make footage with professional quality, you need use professional cine equipments for stop motion shooting. The every stop motion camera have high precision transport mechanism with a few transport pins and a few registration pins. And the registration pins very important, because, you need high stability of position of pictures. That's why, not need save money on the equipments, because, all footages you can throw out from technical quality.
  19. 16OPF 1-6-1 6 mm lens and Peleng 8 mm two differing lenses. Peleng have big field distortion because, this is fish eye lens. From other side, 16 OPF professional lens of 16 mm cine camera. Theoretically, the modification of 6 mm lens possible, this is lens have lens mount of Kinor-16 camera with diameter of 43 mm and flange focal distance 52 mm. From practical side, You need design of new lens back part of lens with M42 screw mount or If you have lathe, you can make M42 screw on original part of lens. The lens back part the removable part. If the your K-3 had bayonet mount, i can proprose idea of modify of professional zoom lens of Kinor-16 camera 16 OPF - 12- 1 10-100 mm. This lens can have zoom ratio 7.5-75 mm with 0.75 wide attachment. And you will have not one wide lens, you will have zoom lens with wide angle.
  20. From my side, i recommend choose Kinor-16 SX-2M, Real professional quality of footages, electrical motor, 120 m film magazines ( 10 minutes of footages at 25 fps ), noise 38..42Db. The size of Kinor with 30 m magazine similar of size of Kransohgrosk-3. The original electrical motor have Pilot Signal sync system and electronic clapper. The electrical motor can be modify to crystal sync. And low price of set. Good choose of 16 mm camera for shooting of feature film.
  21. What type of light you had ? Daylight, You use Tungsten lighters, or HMI lighters with magnetic ballast or HMI with electronic ballast? What frequency have main power ? Battery 12 V ? Speed 25 fps, 50 fps ?

If we told about shipping by air parcel post from Ukraine to USA,( I not told about special mail service like EMS, ) Netto of K-3 camera with accessories and set 6 kg + 2 kg package = 8 kg. shipping cost $68, the time of shipping 15..20 days. If you will send by ground parcel post, time of shipping 3 month. You must not forget, all K-3 cameras made until 1992..1993 and this cameras need to maintenance after of long time storage. From other side, not all sellers of K-3 cameras camera technician and can check camera from all sides and with detailed test. Need buy cameras from well-known, powered sellers. The better, if the camera had professional service and full test From my personal experience of service K-3 cameras, i see " new " K-3 cameras with not opened factory package with a some small problems. This can be bad contact on battery holder, TTL sensor with lost sensitivity. But, you pay very low price for 16 mm cine camera and must be ready can have a some risk.
  23. I agree information of John_P_Pytlak. This is old film, from other side, this is color reversal. The color reversal film have more aged from B&W negative film. You can have big grainy and low color, the sharpness can be low too, but, i advise processing this film. You can use E-6 chemistry, doubling of time of process and low temperature 25C. Possible, the film can be processing with more high temperature 30..35C, need check. I had experience process of Svema color reversal film ( CO-50D )and ORWO with old date ( 1985..1990 ) and had result. Frankly speaking, i use chemistry with original Svema formula of solutions for Svema CO films. I had not good color, but, this was historic events and any qaulity of image was great.
  24. I'm not seller, I'm camera technician and can propose service, adjust and test of cameras and lenses. The price of standard K-3 you can see on e-buy. I think $120..180 Will need find zoom lens 16OPF-12-1 10-100 mm with 0.75 front attachment on e-buy, i think, the price can be $150..250. The modification of lens for K-3 lens mount with adjust of flange focal distance 100 Euros, The service , re-lube, adjust and design debugging of K-3 - 100 Euros. If you need better camera, i reccomend Kinor-16 SX-2M.
  25. You can underline. Krasnogorsk-3 camera with bayonet mount can use modifed russian professional zoom lens 16OPF-12-1 10-100 mm and with 0.75 wide attachment 7.5-75 mm. This is very good lens for shooting.
