  1. Since super8 has such a small frame you want to get as good quality glass as you can find. The larger the format the mor forgiving the hardware can be. There was an Arri std mount adaptor for the camera. You should be able to find one for a reasonable price and then maybe looking at getting some Zeiss standard 16 lenses. I would go prime lenses. You will be blown away by what you get.
  2. not to mention that you wont get a digital back for 750 usd. you also wont see ds8 back for another 300 bucks. thats a lot of engineering on the camera and to design a back itself. asking a bit much there folks for not much money.
  3. s8 cart only. you wont see a digital back for something like this i dont think.
  4. its too deep from what i can tell. even if it wasnt im guessing the cost would be more than the value of the lens.
  5. OK heres a question. what would people really truely honestly pay for a new super8 camera if it had the following capabilities. 10-200fps 4 crystal speeds pin registered movement c mount reflex viewingvariable shutter
  6. nope i want to find a dead one because my rear element is scratched and usually its the front element that gets damaged.
  7. let me know if you have one. that or super8 and 16mm movement might work.
  8. Im told kodachrome can be processed as black and white film. Anybody have any information on how to do this properly and can anybody share the results?
  9. I've heard nothing but problems from this seller. I remember looking online ages ago and there are instructions on reloading the carts that you can download to do it yourself.
  10. super8 can look as good as 16mm from about ten years ago. just make sure you use a really really good camera and the slowest speed film you can get. if you have interchangable lenses as an option then male sure you use the best lenses you can get. 16mm was a consumer format but the grain technology caught up. the same has happened for super8. just remember that the sharpness will be another issue but you can make it look great.
  11. bummer as i find their stuff to be costly compared to getting stuff in north america. there used to be people here that sold the stuff. now if only my super8 cam took the 200ft carts.
  12. where do you get this stuff in the first place?
  13. Well first of all, if all you have is 100D instead of the 64T then you have to work with what you have, However, you will need less light outside with the 100D because it is a daylight balanced film. The D means daylight and the T in 64T means its balanced for lights balanced for 3200k color temperature. you can shoot the 100D without a filter. The 64T shot outside would need a daylight balance filter which would mean you would need a lot more light in comparison to the 100D in the same situation. Will it be ok? Probably, but then that depends on the weather, etc. If your camera has a light meter in it that can work without film or if you have a handhel (better) then set it to 100asa and the aperture you want to shoot at and test shooting the things you want to shoot on a bright day and a cloudy day. See if the meter says you have enough light or not.
  14. holy crap. i was looking at the spectra site and comparing the cost of ektachrome ds8 and super8. super8 is 50% more money per processed minute. so many people talk about film costs being so high that you would think they would want to witch over but it doesnt look like its happening. i cant see the argument about the cameras being heavier, loading etc being a huge issue. they choose film over video for the look and feel and many because of the mechanical aspects of it. i cant see many not going to it when its cheaper and apparently better imagery. i wish people would give it a shot. and for the sold jk optical printer, can i ask who bought it?
  15. please contact me if you have one or know of one. thank you.
  16. alot of super8 users get troubled by the costs. thats what ive notices from reading threads all over. i think using double super 8 with processing is like half the cost compared to using cart film. that along makes me think the idea is a great one.
  17. I don't mind my Pathe DS8 at all, I just wish I bought a multicoated glass pellicle form the guy in the uk before he dissapeared.
  18. come on people, throwing your camera into a dumpster 18 times and then trying to use it is slightly worse than cameraspro
  19. I have heard nothing but bad stuff about cameraspro. jk and jean-louis seguin are apparently excellent.
  20. i think ill go with ds8. i think the images from 100d in it would be stunning. andy, can you post a good quality telecine of some of your bolex ds8 work?
  21. like I wrote to the person who started this thread, there is a camera that would be quite cheap to make since it was made with almost entirely off the shelf parts. a friend of mine is exploring the posability of doing it as we speak. it might just be a couple of thousand dollars for such a camera and with a fair amount of features found on a 16mm camera of the 1980s. who knows it might come to fruition.
  22. I hope this isn't for all of them. sigh
  23. If youare planning to shoot and have the cash get a mekel, they are the best.
  24. I know somebody that has one but I think he wants to sell his whole arri ST kit with it. The good side is the camera looks like it's been used ten times. It's as close to being mint as possible without being mint.
