  1. the future for super 8 (imo) will be re-perfed stock from Wittner or Pro8. I feel kodak will pull the plug in 2015, 50 years after the film was introduced.
  2. Yes i saw the price increase last week and couldn't agree more with David's post. My gut feeling is 2015 will see the end of super 8 from Kodak and Wittner filling the gap. Super 8 died for me when they killed kodachrome, much preferred 64t over 100d, so 100d no great loss.
  3. Currently here in the uk, 16mm can work out cheaper than super 8, widescreen charge £59.00 per cart of super 8 processed/tk paid. A 400ft core of fuji is around £60.00 inc VAT, tk and process at i-dallies is £140.00 (inc VAT).
  4. Finally got round to spinning through various rolls of agfa moviechrome 40 and 160 from 1982/3, looks like fungus to me:( sadly i canot clean this off, luckily i went the kodachrome/E160 route within a year of starting filming on super 8,
  5. Hiya, great projector, lamp housing does tend to get quite warm as the cooling system was not that great. Fantastic edge to edge sharp picture and quite possibly the brightest 100 watt lamp projector ever made! Later noris projectors were ie 410 were not in the same class as the 332, 342 etc. The 342 will out perform projectors ( in terms of light output and image quality) from eumig, sankyo etc.
  6. Lets hope this Agfa product is more stable than all previous products I've used from them, all my moviechrome 40 and 160 is un-watchable due to emulsion fungus, my ct18 slides have turned red, pretty sure last time i looked the 100asa slides were turning too!. No offence, but can agfa stock be trusted for longevity?
  7. Just received back from the lab some super 8 wittner velvia 100 pro, wow, results are quite superb, much sharper than kodaks 100d stock.
  8. How odd, i find the camera great for hand held work, a bitch on the tripod, especially at full zoom, trying to pull focus is a nightmare without wobble, big top heavy lens on a small c-mount, nasty! I find the 7008 range a pig to use hand held...
  9. you better read this then.... http://motion.kodak.com/motion/uploadedFiles/PCN120312_Q.pdf
  10. Not sure if this helps:- http://www.rockycameras.com/eumig-nautica-underwater-super-8-cine-camera-rare--7999-31994-p.asp
  11. I use Dwayne's photo too, have done since 2006, i had one issue with a blue tram line on kodachrome in 2006 which they apologised and compensated me for, their cust service was superb. At one time I was splitting my super 8 and 16mm E6 processing between a European lab and Dwayne's, after a couple of screw ups from the European lab, all my E6 is now processed by Dwayne's photo. As Matt said, wished they would process tri-x too.
  12. I understand that Kodak UK now has a minimum order of around £400, a smaller order incurs a surcharge.
  13. Hiya, best zoom lenses for the 6008/7008 cameras were the schneider 6-66 and angenieux 6-80. The 6-66 can only be used as c-mount without the LCU where as the 6-80 can be modified for use the the LCU. Please be aware that any zoom lens you purchase for the camera will need to be collimated/adjusted to the camera to avoid soft images especially when the lens is used on wide angle at f1.8 (6-66) and T1.4 (6-80). Schneider 6-66 is reported as the sharpest zoom lens made for the super 8 format.
  14. I once heard kodak wanted to be a resversal free company within 5 years, that was 4-5 years ago, tri-x will be axed very soon. I not sure if it was manufactured but either this or last year they was to make one last run of 8mm tri-x. That kinda indicates to me they were cutting the last master roll up into various formats. They did this with ds-8 100d last year and within a year cartridge based 100d has been axed.... My feeling is they have killed the affordable way of using super 8, thankfully Wittner will continue to support the reversal market, in fact their 50d has better transportation properties than kodaks 100d, never had a 50d jam or their now discontinued fuji 64t super 8 stock.
  15. Kodak made one last final run of double super 8 100d last year, people should of read between the lines back then and began stock pilling to avoid any rush this announcement may cause!
  16. Well i exposed around 85-90 carts of 100d this year, and as previously mentioned had some jam and others cause flickery images. Last year was the same, flickery images, and from memory around 3-4 completely jam. Cameras used, 1014xls. 814xls, Beaulieu 7008s and pro, leicina special, canon 514,310, 312xl-s, elmo 240sxl. Approached kodak uk last year, seems i was the only one having transport issues with 100d!!!
  17. Had 4 completely jam this year, and around 20 which cause running issues with the camera, which give flickery images. Not a camera fault as various cameras used and all other stocks transport fine. In fact wittner 50d and the now discontinued wittner 64t all ran perfectly, which is ironic that kodak cannot seem to get there own super 8 product to run without technical issues. Only way to shoot 100d with 100% reliability is in the DS-8 format.
  18. Hiya, as already pointed out, you cannot get kodachrome processed in colour anymore, given the age of the film, imo you really are waisting cash on out dated film, just buy fresh. One other thing, if you decide to expose double 8mm stock as 16mm, advise the lab as they may just split the film thinking its 8mm...
  19. Hi, had issue's with 100d jamming for over a year, also experiance poor running issues too. Wittner 100d always transportd ok, yet kodaks 100d jams!. Have largely dumped kodaks cartridge based 100d in favour of DS8 100D, if i require reversal have been using wittner 64t which transports perfectly. Sadly wittner 64t stocks are now exhausted. There is no answer to 100d jamming, its not your camera's or storage of the film. Also experiance flickery images with cartridge based 100d too as the camera struggles to transport the film. Only answer would be to shoot DS8 or 200t....
  20. We've seen this before with 64t, axed in the 35mm format kept in the super 8 format, then within a year 64t was history. E6 from kodak in the MP will be gone with 12 months or so, depending on the stock levels, only last year kodak made one last run of DS8 100d, i smelt a rat then !!!
  21. Worry!, seen this before with 64t, discontinued in the 35mm format but not the super 8, then within 12 months it was gone in the super 8 format!. Kodak e6 is now history. Reckon we've around 12 months left for 100d in the MP format....
  22. here is my rig using the 'merlin'. I run the camera via a canon remote switch 60 using lightweight flex connected to the camera. The remote switch is operated using my teeth!!!!!!! Originally tried the cable remote, but this waisted film and at times unbalanced the rig whislt fumbling to operate the thing.
  23. hiya, Sorry I'm not familiar with an 814xl battery requirements, so unsure if the light meter requires additional 1.35v button cells. I've a 1014 auto zoom somewhere with the same problem, the metering needle gets stuck!. My advice is to power the camera up, open the rear cartridge door and look through the gate while the camera is running, move the camera from a light to dark area and see if the auto iris is responding whilst still looking through the gate. You should see the aperature blades responding. The same technique can be applied to the 514xl but its a bit more difficult given the camera is side loading. Back to the 814xl, the needle should be controlled by rotating the exposure dial on the side of the 814. If no response in auto or manual mode, and assuming batts are all good, give the camera a gentle tap and see if this free's the exposure needle. FYI, 514xl zoom only operates when the camera is running, also I've experianced quite a few 100d carts jam in my 3x 514xl cameras, though never in the 310!!
  24. Todd, my experiance with cinevia was good customer service. Sadly though the film did not transport at all well in my Bolex DS8, the images were so jumpy both my 100ft loads ended up in the bin, at times the camera was almost jamming up! yet kodak 100d tranports with no problems at all. My batch was purchased around feb/march this year.
  25. Yes the lens is rather expensive, currently one on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ISCORAMA-CINEGON-1-8-10-1-5x-BEAULIEU-control-unit-OVP-/400241117930?pt=DE_Foto_Camcorder_Objektive&hash=item5d303acaea Mine cost me around £160.00 on ebay for the c-mount version, bargain of the century i think :)
