  1. One possible way is to source an iscorama cinegon lens, this is an all in one unit combining a 10mm cinegon lens with 1.5 squeeze lens. Two problems though, one is the are extremely rare to source, the second is that you are restricted to a 10mm lens.. Here is a photo (hopefully the link will work) http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=5547 Cheers
  2. Its been a long time since I've filmed with a 2008 but i'm pretty sure that once the 85 filter is swung out of the optical path a clear filter is swung into the optical path. So if you have concerns over the 85, the same would apply for the clear filter, both filters would require replacing. Best way to see if an 85 filter is present is to operate/run the camera, then remove the power whilst the trigger (under the lens) is still depressed. Remove the lens, run the camera, remove the power and hopefully the shutter will remain open. You can then look into the optical path towards the gate and check whether the 85 is in situ or not. Remember that if you decide to remove the 85 filter to have the lens adjusted to the camera body, as the removal of the filter may affect the back focus, and you could obtain soft images when the lens is used wide open (f1.9?) and on its widest setting (8mm assuming you have an 8-64 lens on the camera). To expose tri-x remove the 85 filter, rate at 200asa in daylite, 160 in tung. No need for the 85 flter for tri-x. Personally i tend to expose tri-x at 160 asa in daylight. If you 2008 has auto iris, try to avoid auto iris, obtain the exposure and lock the iris, beaulieu auto iris are a bit irratic (imo) and not that reliable.
  3. I'm having trouble's with 100d in canon 514xl camera's, they are slowing up and jamming. Removal of the cartridge and placing the same cartridge in a Beaulieu, the film transports with no problem. Recently had an elmo 240xl jam and break down during mid shot with 100d and my AF 514xl-s is not happy either with 100d. One can only assume the film base is thicker than k40, and the cameras are no spring chickens anymore. I have a canon 310xl which transports the 100d with ease.
  4. Hi, I have experianced some transport issues with kodaks 100d, the film transports fine though sound cameras, canon 814xls, beaulieu 7008, yet the same cartridge jams up in two sepearte 514xl cameras. I have also noticed some strange noises and irratic running from the leicina special too. I wonder if kodak lub 100d like they did with later batches of 64t.... Anyone else having transportation issues with 100d?
  5. FYI, i have exposed two 100ft loads of GK Velvia earlier this year. Sadly tbe transportation through my camera was poor, in fact all the footage went straight in the bin. At times the camera seemed to struggle to even transport the film! Kodak 100d runs very smoothly, so with the end of 100d, its looking bleak for colour work in the ds8 format (for me at least).
  6. Hi, the camera was purchased at a uk camera fair, just an ordinary 400 line mini b/w cctv camera, the black unit that fits onto the viewfinder tube is a leicina accessory known as the Leicina Special Right Angle Finder Adapter 22221. My cousin works for a precision engeering firm and came up with a sleeve to sit around the cctv camera and the method of securing the camera to the RA Adapter ( basically 4 allen screws ). I guess sourcing the R A Adapter mave prove the hardest job.
  7. Hi, generally i use tape for super 8 and 16mm and cement for standard 8. For super 8 i recommend the Wurker splicer.. One on ebay at present, uk based though http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wurker-Stereo-Super-8-Tape-Splicer-Kit-Cine-Films-/250755056486?pt=UK_Photography_VintagePhotography_VintagePhotoAccessories&hash=item3a622a8366
  8. Yes a 10mm c-mount iscorama-cinegon lens does exists, see attached photo
  9. Hi, i'll start the ball rolling, hopefully others will chip in. The Nizo, imo avoid, unless fully serviced. The internal drive mech relies on a belt, over time this belt stretches causing tranports issue with the camera. The Nizo is a very quiet running camera. Optics not in the same league as the 6-66 lens. Certainly the 9008 can easily be ( if not already fitted ) fitted with 16-9 markings. Quietest runing is the Nizo, 9008 then Special. Most reliable is the Leicina. Leicina viewfinder is ok but not the best, Beaulieu 7008 pro ( assume 9008 is similiar ) is brighter and easier to focus. Leicina is possibly the easiest to convert for a video tap. ( see photograph attached ) If you can shoot your project using a fixed focal length lens, and if you can find one, i would opt for a 9008 with 10mm isco-cinegon. I would opt for a 9008, given they are a quieter running camera than the Special.
  10. Hi, for specialist GS1200 xenon advice it maybe worth posting a question on this forum http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=1 My GS1200 ( non xenon ) is an early version, which after some use were prone to scratch the film, the take up motor runs slow, and the sound system within the projector snaps and pops ( common problem ). To obtain maximum cash for your projector, it needs to be in full working order, i've seen them fetch around 2000 euro's. Regarding the rail roading films, there could be some amazing historical content captured within these films, i would sound out local archives, or if you're wanting to sell, offer on ebay, they will sell.
  11. My understanding is Dwayne's would continue processing if they could, and its kodak who have pulled the plug on supplying the chemicals to the lab. Is there enough users of kodachrome to influence kodak? I doubt it, just look back to when kodak axed super 8 k40, there was a petition etc, yet when they axed k64 last year, hardly any outcry all, certainly nothing like when they axed k40... Its the old saying of use it or loose it, i'm afraid too many people chose other stocks or went down the digi route.
  12. I'm pretty sure i used an 85b filter between lens and UWL with no problem a couple of years ago. Just performed a look through the viewfinder test with a B+W ND pro series filter ( they're very thing ) and observed no fouling/vignetting.
  13. Hi, only my beaulieu cameras are serviced, I just don't know anywhere who can service a special, apart from one of my specials (which is running at approx 17fps instaed of 18fps), the others are working fine. The Schneider UWL III gives you approx 4mm on the 6-66 lens.
  14. Hi, leicina special reglomatic and exposure accuracy is better than my beaulieu 4008 and 7008, used to swear by canon 814 and 1014xl-s cameras for run and gun, but now i swear by the special. Possibly the worst camera in my toy box for auto iris lag and exposure accuracy is the 4008. Where possible use manual iris.
  15. Only thing i've picked up on is the focussing screen/beam splitter thing, think its called a pellicule?? i've heard these deteriorate and require replacing. Be warned, i've only recently purchased a second Bolex ds-8 and now kodak have axed 100D in the ds-8 format, so possibly no more wittner 100D or repacked 100D from John Schwind once current stocks are exhausted....
  16. I'm with you on this one, have a nasty feeling kodak will be a reversal free company in 5 years time...
  17. Bauer T610, T525, T510, T502 are great projectors, very kind on the film and very quite running too, also dont over look Noris projectors, they have the best 100w A1-231 light output i've ever seen. The Noris norimat special-D is the brightest dual 8 projector i've so far seen, rear sprung gate coupled with a schneider 11-30 f1.1 lens, projects fantastic standard 8 images.
  18. The 9-36mm sonnar on the ms8 is pretty tasty, never seen a GS8, another contender since the list was produced is the very rare 10mm isco cinegon lens.
  19. Guess half of those sales were to me!! Planned to move over to 100D once my 12000 feet of ds-8 kodachrome was exhausted ( later this year ). This, i assume could have a knock on effect for Wittner who supply super 8 100D and ds-8 100d.....
  20. Thanks for sharing this info, wish i clocked the post before purchasing another DS-8 Bolex, this is terrible news. I thought super 8 was slit from 16mm ds-8 film. I did hear a rumor that kodak were slowly pulling out of the reversal market, next on the chopping block i guess will be 7266 and 100D !!
  21. Although difficult to focus, any mileage in using a canon 310xl? even for your bar scenes, worth trying a 310 with tri-x and cover up the metering tube so the camera iris is wide open all the time. The canon reads 100d ok, the zoom range is very limiting and lacks split screen focusing...
  22. Hi, your best option is to ship lens and camera to Sweden for a service, if you have the funds, look for a schneider 6-66 or angenuiex 6-80 lens for the camera. Might be worth asking Bjorn if he has a 6-66 available. That beaulieu lens i think and stand corrected was made by chinon, i swapped mine out for a 6-80 of which Bjorn repaired and adjusted to my 7008... Shipping cost to Sweden were approx £50.00 around two years ago! Here is Bjorn email address bjorn.andersson@brevet.nu
  23. Please can anyone help...
