  1. I haven't noticed any announcement that Logmar is abandoning their prime camera just like that after finishing delivery of the 50 beta-test cameras. I was assuming now things had gone quiet because they needed to work on the Kodak designs. I am not on their newsletter as I had no plans to purchase one :) I have plenty good cameras who will last till retirement and way beyond. The killing thing is the film and processing-service.
  2. Bill DiPietra, The early real Logmar really is priced after its cost. Who expects they can choose a selling price at will after spending so many months/years on design and testing? This while production most likely will remain well below 1000 pieces. I would be surprised if they go over 500. The Kodak Logmars are different machines. Logmar likely will be paid for their efforts and hopefully will receive a pay per piece too on these. Production will be outsourced to manufacuteres who can produce these by the few (ten) thousands Kodak hopefully will sell. Then all will be well. The main thing is for Kodak to drive the price per minute of filming down. Forcefully.
  3. The last versions Super-8 cameras from Canon, Nikon and others have perfectly usable viewfinders. The R10 is just as nice as a High Eyepoint on a Nikon F3. Nobody complained about these. The OP makes clear what a good modern housing design can do for a product :) Technicians may like 19 inch rack gear or cuboïd lab shapes. Others like a good colourscheme and shape design. It makes all the difference in retail and sales numbers. Nothing against a good R10, Nizo or Beaulieu 4008 6008 :) These remain usable as before. Most have very low milage and will last for another decade! Unless filmprices go down substantially and people can shoot film again as if it were water :)
  4. How did you align the frames of the cameras? Backlight projection or such? How does one keep the focal-length equal while on location? And are the cameras running in sync or is there no need for that?
  5. Everybody yaps about pro8mm. From the spontaneous reviews one would hardly regard these as a good service supplier. Certainly not for consumer or small scale filmers. If it is not Kodak than Dwayne's would need be to be the first to be invited. They have tens of years of experience with supplying processing service to the masses. With a possible upgrade to their machines and adding a scanning line they can be in business in no time. Just my two cents.
  6. It is an unlikely to be true assumption that KODAK will not scan HD properly. There is hardly SD equipment left. Why would they seek to use outdated machines? 100 ft in the room of a 50ft is only possible using very thin film. Which likely doesn't help image quality much. Since the new camera has a built in microphone it will be designed such that it is very well usable. Almost funny how end-users without any skills in engineering and design think and write as if they know better than a design team of a company which is risking millions in this project.
  7. Even without the camera the new style of processing service is an example how things should work. People send in their film and all in one tariff they can expect their film soon and a digital copy most likely will be made available through an online downloadservice. I.e it will be available the day it was developed and/or scanned, saving a week or more of waiting. A way of working current labs should/could have adopted years ago. But these thought everything was just nice like it is and just let the customer suffer the shipping time-delay of shipping it to the lab and then to the scanservice. Now see when Kodak actually starts processing...
  8. Filming in a night club? Your character is invisible or ends up in hospital?
  9. It looked like a Logmar in an another style of housing. Now it appears it is a likely redesigned version in a new housing. I am not sure if a built in microphone is really new to Super-8 cameras :) It is unlikely going to sell at $500 as the WSJ-article mentions. The components alone are a few times that amount or are they having them manufactured by the thousands, per month? It certainly takes away the uncertainty about the availability of Super-8 format from Kodak.
  10. Try forummember: Jean-Lois Seguin in Montreal bolextech@gmail.com He is active in the super-8 section. Check his posts.
  11. These tests are with the cartridge in the camera? And of course it is not at the end :) Test the cartridge for smooth transport. I.e. is the unexposed-stock is allowed out freely. Put your thumb/finger on the film in the gate and see if you can slide-transport it down without much force. If it comes out smooth then there is nothing wrong.
  12. OP might want to read her PM's. Signaling from this website isn't the strong part :) I don't get signal-email either.
  13. I am not a voter. :) It is just what I read from the paper and opinions. The Scots will grant themselves a referendum they will not need be allowed one. Conditions would have changed after a Brexit. The stay voters was promised a lasting EU fullmembership. It has already been mentioned and it will happen again. They will take what is theirs from the Union. They certainly will keep their gas and oil revenues and may want those taken earlier by the UK back.
  14. The 4008 is super-8 ... Don't experiment too much with the battery in camera charging! Sometimes the old cells get hot and swell during charging and will crack the circuitboard underneath. Possibly you could test the camera with the battery in and with the charger plugged in. Use the test function to check for voltage. Run it when it is OK. Don't use the high speeds without film in! The batteryblock can be recelled at several locations in EU The pro suppliers everywhere charge steeply, 'hailing' magical skills and components. Don't have anybody work on your camera unless it is broken. If it ain't broken don't fix it! Spending Euro 400 at 'needed' maintenance every so few years is nonsens. Test it before important jobs and have fun shooting. And practice a bit before before going to the North pole or such. All the manual operation takes getting used to.
  15. It is a misunderstanding among Brexit favouring Brits to think that they can have their cake and eat it. I.e. when exiting EU they will certainly not be invited or accepted as member in other European institutes as if nothing happened and certainly will not be seen as a favoured nation. Like Switserland or Norway who are on their 'own', cannot vote on anything but comply and contribute to all EU regulations and instutions at free will. Scotland will abandon the UK and apply for EU membership the same day. Wales might do the same. North Ireland too or they might possibly join Ireland :) Prepare for all industries who landed in UK after joining EU to abandon UK the minute the UK steps out. There is no point for them to stay in. Wish all a lot of wisdom in the voting booth.
  16. Is this Royal 8 with the thin pin micro DIN (?) connector? Also found on some Agfa, Canon, Nizo and other Bauers? This has a on/off and sync signals on several pins. You could then attempt to find a Philips 2209 cassette recorder or an Uher. Or search a bit to use multichannel recorders and put the sync on one of these. Unless the camera is really slopy you could also sync with clapper and fit the sound later. Most cameras really don't drift that much. Certainly not in between start and stop.
  17. Aren't these new available from India and China at next to nothing prices?
  18. Beaulieux 2/4/6/7/9008 are reasonbly easy to open and to close back without visible damage. Nizo Silberlings and several Bauers are easy too. Don't let your screwdriver wander out the slot! :) The difficulty with many like Nikon R8/10m Canon 814/1014 and others is to know where the screws are and how to get there. Getting the leatherettes or rubbers of without deforming or tearing them is one thing. Putting them back another. :(
  19. The ciné world is much bigger than this forum. I know of one German language forum on small gauge which is as lively as any English language one I know. Then there is French, Spanish, Italian and what more. I suppose a straight Double-8 camera with C-mount would be the simplest to design using your experience gained from the Logmar S-8. Big reels would make it interesting for wedding filmers and such. 16mm stock is likely to remain the longest and can easily be converted to 8mm perf. A switchable gate was a bit of joke and would complicate design significantly. Having a basic machine inproduction make it possible to design a wide version more doable when room is left in the basic design to recenter the c-mount and fix a wide gate. All easy said when not being put to the task :) Good luck and I hope all is well with the Logmar S-8 Let's hope Ferrania makes to some sustainable production soon. 16mm and 8mm would be the simpelest to produce. No cartridge trouble! :) Rgrds, Andries
  20. Lasse, What is your conclusion now? Design some sort of 8mm system camera which can do some of the tricks mentioned in the on-topic posts? Rgrds, Andries
  21. Somehow the edit box of this forum doesn't work properly in my browser. I meant to quote but didn't get anything in. Cut and paste doesn't work either. :( Nicolas, The conclusion might be that Logmar should consider designing a camera for classic 8mm (double-8) rather than a DS-8 thing for which there would be no film. Possibly allowing/using long rolls. I could possibly reverse the roll without taking it out if there is some switching possible. The camera would need to be rotated 180 degrees then :) A wide format version might then also be possible without too much extra work.
  22. Did you find an indication of demand for such a two perf S-8 camera? :)
  23. Nonsens. Wittner states clearly - bis auf weiteres - that it remains in the catalog until further notice. A new production has just been cleared for delivery. There is even meterware (long roll) This is where Spectra and others get their stock from.
  24. A long time ago friend used a Rollei 16 camera to expose 16mm 1perf to get the film look in his stills. The Rollei 16 takes 16mm 1perf like many other. It is a nice camera but only has automatic program exposure. Better would be to use a Kiev or Mamiya 16 who have manual adjust aperture and exposuretime. The grain is different though as the camera sideway almost uses three frames.
  25. Not to start a quarrel but it is curious that non-profits with budget-housing are more expensive with their services than regular profit-labs like Andec or Super8.nl and possibly others.
