  1. 55 UKP about EURO 60 = 15 /pc Wittner plans to expect Euro 24.90 per piece including VAT
  2. It is 55 UK Pound. Odd, as this seller used to have far more reasonable prices. Stardom is getting to his prices. The 20 pieces boxes used to be free shipping :) Shipping is not too bad, It is from Istanbul and as far as I know Turkye is in a customs union with the EU. There are some advantages to the EU :) Buying and selling across the EU is now so easy, duty free, and thanks to the Euro and some imposed regulations there are hardly banking fees. Could easily be saving Euro 1500 per year on my business and personal buys.
  3. The trouble is of course most S8 cameras are from before the High-Eyepoint viewfinder era. So you must go close. Also the diameters and eyecup-sizes are small such that finding fitting aftermarket things can be a challenge. The smalles round one still has a hole of over 40mm. Likely only the very large Nizo asymtric eyecup could be fitted with the small oval type but it is still not snugly. You will need to brew your own. :) Or find a way adapting one using a backsupport made from a rubber sheet or something. Good luck.
  4. You expect an article? Please show a scientific source on the 120 feet concrete.
  5. Nope, not for 15-20 years or something. Be glad there are still 50ft cartridges. :) There were 200ft with Ektachrome inside. Sometimes these show up at astronomical prices. Despite what sellers say don't expect them to expose and process. The emulsion will be completely unreliable and E-4 has been discontinued for 40 years. The Kodachrome 40 in 200ft have remained usable much longer but unfortunately there is no Kodachrome processing left since 3 years. I have exposed split DS8 Fomapan in a refilled 200ft. It is a bit of hassle. There is one guy in Slovenia who did the same and used them on projects. I am not sure if he stil does.. Wittner sells 200ft reels for the Beaulieu SD-8 magazine. So if you find a Bealieu 9008 with a magazine you are in :)
  6. An overhaul of a Beaulieu 4008 or 6008 will cost at least Euro 400. And then the needed parts who all of sudden aren't good anymore. If it ain't broken don't fix it. Better ask before you sent your camera anywhere :) And if you get a proper bill and garantee. Just find a fitting lens for your 6008. Shouldn't be too difficult when in Germany. Or a second camera. Then you are covered when one would break down or something. Or load it with a different film. Despite claims otherwise you can swap the lens across cameras. Just double check on focusing at infinity. If it doesn't focus then likely it will on neither of the cameras. With all these ISO 100 films aperture will be around f11 most of the time and DOF on the subject and on the film is enormous.
  7. http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=58093 Seems another option exists.
  8. I use a simple Ansmann which can do all type of assemblies of NiMh and NiCd. It works just fine. And I use a advanced one which can do drip charge and takes 12, 100-240 volt input. Both have swapable 3.5mm connectors who just go into the camera or the external holder.
  9. Do a reality check. You are far too optimistic. Have they ever caught someone with contraband from their targetlist? Nope they never did. The reputation of the US and its TSA is much worse then of any of these services elsewhere. Nobody gets tazered abroad. No granny is checked in her diapers. Nobody gets lifted from wheelchairs or is made to walk. And nobody got killed over an inspection. That is just from US news sources. I recall even from before 9/11 a visit to Liberty Island in New Jersey where the behaviour of the operators was very rude and intrusive. Very damaging too as I lost appetite for traveling the US rather quickly.
  10. Added You will be better buying film in the Europe (cheaper) and send it home after exposing. It is also an urban myth that all postal parcels are x-rayed or gamma-rayed. They are not.
  11. Personnel have hardly an idea what silver-based film is. Discussion are fitile. They will not be bothered by your demand or protest and all wiil be scanned. Otherwise you will have to abandon it. Modern x-ray scanners don't fog film. No even the 1600 ISO ones. Suggestion that it will be harmed are just urban myth. So don't bother and just let them go through. Don't put them in leadbags or such. They just will boost the doses to see through it.
  12. One should hope so. Otherwise no cause will be found and nor will Kodak know. :) If the problem exists at all. It seems these things come up on internetfora every now and then. But I noticed no recalls from Kodak ot large suppliers like Wittner
  13. So it is the under-dosis of wind-up torque. The cameras need adjusting. Or maybe they could be helped with gate-lube (from wittner). If it were over-dosis you would have unstable framing.
  14. Fomapan DS8 can be bought from this http://www.fomafoto.com/ Nice ex tax prices. But check with your customs regulations :) Importing to the EU Netherlands is a bit troublesome as the smallest items from outside seems to get taxed these days. I expect that is more due to the expediters liking the fees too much rather than the customs being to eager. Here is some more homebrew Single-8/Super-8 exchange: http://www.h4.dion.n...ga/page035.html
  15. If, as Reinhard states, parts can be missing due to errors at assembling time then this would be caused by a missing core. The film anchors itself to the hub in the store space. The only thing then is how was the film rolled up before inserting it into the cartridge?
  16. To get raw material you could: - pull it from Super-8 cartridges, good for Kodak materials. - split DS-8 material yourself. - get meterware from wittner. Unfortunably Wittner has all of sudden reduced the assortment of meterware and DS8 materials. Maybe one could still buy DS8 outside the list? E100D in DS8 might still be had from John Schwind? Fomapan DS8 can best be bought from Foma webshop or from Prague/Czechia shops directly. Along with the processing kits :) Towards the end of the thread it makes interesting reading here: http://forum.filmshooting.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20997&hilit=zc1000&start=15 It requires creating an opening in the top of the chamber.
  17. Maybe ask Wittner? They used to sell original Beaulieu printwork. I doubt there is a dedicated 9008 booklet. I don't have one either. If you find one please let me know :) The sad thing I noticed is that Wittner cut the listing of the 60 meter cameraspools. Luckily there is still some meterware (long rolls). I don't have an original SD-8 either but have managed to refill 200ft cartridges after modifiying them a bit.
  18. Yep, it you get it given as a price/reward it might work. But at the extra costs and offense you get nobody should choose to use these as free choice. OP and winner better reports matters to the jury and organisation. Such that find a price which is more of a reward. I.e. a stack of film including processing at a local address.
  19. Seems you made it into german schmalfilm-online.de/
  20. Seems there is a number of retailers selling through eBay every day. In the US and Europe. So plenty options there if you are not from New York. Also keep in mind that some labs have nice set prices for film with processing included.
  21. Posted a PM... Did you get that? I have several of these recelled holders.
  22. double post. This site is hardly workable using Firefox. What is it doing?
  23. That works for people who are capable of doing that. The early makes of the single-8 cartridges are easy to open and refill. Although only with 12 meter of film. To keep the ZC-1000s going in a general public something easier to use has to be found. It should be affordable too. :)
  24. Looks nice but do you know how long Fuji will keep available Single-8 film? Did anybody manufacturer an adapter to feed for Super-8 into a ZC1000 (from top or something). I read about moviestuff Roger Evans who made a one-off 400ft reel holder for a ZC1000. Driven by the external axis of the ZC1000. Would be nice to have something like that for the 50ft cartridges.
  25. Gibarti is a trader and likely this swap is just a way to advertise for free under the radar of the cinematography rules.
