  1. Hi John, thanks for reply, no only this film, it is as Grant suggests on next post, somehow film has been put on reel wrong way sometime in past. Ah-ha.... in that case Phillip, your father's been doing some 'trick photography'. If you shoot with the camera held upside down, you can flip the film ( upside down in projection ) to get 'backwards' motion ! John S :D
  2. The 'correct' way round for 8mm ( or 16mm ) film going into a projector is like this.... The perforations edge should be nearest you and if you viewed the images coming off the reel, they should be upside down. Any other way will have been filmed like it. Do all the films project like that or just that one reel ? John S
  3. Freya, You took the question right out my mouth  John S
  4. I like the look of real lens flare every now and then, but boy do I hate the artificial flare used in everything now. Just this minute I’ve seen a commercial break where every ad used it – then the station promo had it – THEN the programme’s intro had it too !!!! John S
  5. That's a Russian built like a tank 'Quartz M' standard 8mm camera...... my very first cine camera :P I had gotten rid of many years ago, but bought another one last year just for the love of it. Results were always good ( ......a bit like a mini K3 ).I'll put a film through it one day ! They pop up all of the time on eBay - don't pay too much though. John S
  6. Does anybody know of a good Bolex repair engineer here in the UK ? Sadly Roger Sharland passed way in January :( http://www.roger-sharland.co.uk/ Many thanks, John S
  7. Kodak has reached a deal with 20th Century Fox to supply film to its movie and television studios making them the sixth major studio to sign up. This good news will secure motion picture film manufacturing for the foreseeable future. Kodak article here…. http://motion.kodak.com/motion/About/News/2013/Jun03_1.htm John S :D
  8. Hello All, I’ve been contemplating for a few years now whether or not to go for laser eye surgery having reached that point when my eyes just aren’t as sharp as they could be. Focus in both eyes is ‘slightly’ soft with astigmatism being the main problem. About five years ago I opted to go for glasses and not surgery because I believe there’s still a small risk. My eyes are my income and worry if the worst should happen. I searched and found this thread on the forum and wondered how you guys are getting on with your eyes after four years, and if indeed anybody else reading this has since had their eyes done. Any feedback / side effects - good or bad would be much appreciated. Many thanks, John S
  9. Are they actually still in business then Brian ? Their website hasn't changed for ages, their price list is 2 years old and their 'items for sale' page is 8 years old. I emailed them about a year ago and never got a reply so assumed they'd shut down. John S :(
  10. There's Alvernia Studios in Poland.... http://www.alvernia.com/chemical-laboratory John S

  13. Can anyone tell me what printing lenses are used on later 16/35/70 optical printers. I know Kodak Ektar's were commonly used on older machines, but what's the modern equivalents ? Cheers all, John S

  18. I was once told by Kodak that Ektachrome 100D motion picture film was the exact same emulsion as 'stills' Ektachrome E100VS, and like others on this forum, I'll miss this fantastic film. John S :o
  19. Has anyone appoached Kodak about this ? John S
  20. Ektachrome 100D is a great looking film when projected, and does have a close 'Kodachrome look' to it. You could try under exposing it by a third of a stop to give slightly more saturated colour, but don't under expose too much more otherwise you'll have a noticably dark film ! I'm advising on projected film not scanned film. John S
  21. Hello Roberto, There’s a guy in your native Italy who’s designed and built a custom system to record digital files onto 16mm film with sound. Although they’re not produced like ‘real’ filmouts, the results are pretty good and very economical. ( about 6 euros per minute ). He’s helped many in the 16mm film collecting community repair and restore their movies. Check out this YouTube video and you’ll see what I mean ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOxBbVA2lpI John S
  22. Anybody know where I can find a battery plug ( connector ) in the UK ? This is the coaxial connector that plugs directly into the battery ( like the leads from the charger ). Cheers all, John S
  23. Take a look at ... http://16mmfilmtalk.com/index.php It's mostly 16mm but caters for all formats ! John S
