Basic Question before buying a Kino Flo
Ed Conley replied to Cory Matthews's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
Depends which ones you buy. The Led T-8 bulbs are relatively cheap but you also need their wiring harness. The QED Crossfade are more $$ 4' Bulb is $275.00 Rainbow 4' is $599.00 -
http://acegenerators.com ACE carries the 50amp Twist Lock cables and lunchboxes. I'm sure other shops have them too.
-
Why dont you rent the extra 50amp cable?

Hanging lights 4 ft down from ceiling grid
Ed Conley replied to Rick Gates's topic in Grip & Rigging
he wont be using stands when he goes to use this set up- he will have fixed height grid. This photo is just to test the rig. he is also in Eugene OR, I imagine he doesn't have access to a lot of grip like stirrups. -

Drill a hole through the speedrail and run a safety rope through it and tie off to the grid. -

Jacobson Sound Blimp https://soundblimp.com/home/ -
Yup- all of ours are marked with an arrow.
-
can it be done- yes. will it be expensive- yes. It will be proprietary so if your ballast goes down your entire kino goes down since you can't rent just a ballast that would work on your new pinned kino. Might as well just convert to Quasar tubes but that is $$$ too.

I could really use some help
Ed Conley replied to Justin Oakley's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
You add more ambient light to the room with a couple of the Work light halogens 250watt/500watt. It will look very bright to you but in camera it will still be dark. You can also use a dimmer on the work lights. -

My 4 sources here all say Italian made Mag ballast but can't recall manufacturer. I worked at a rental place in the early 90's that had these and I believe we dad these paired with Arri 1200 Fresnels. My repair guy said the Italian company pretty much made all the ballasts during those years. Arri, Desisti, Strand.

30 year old magnetic ballast. I just can't recall brand or who was the original manufacturer.

Ed Conley 323-640-3183 text when you get here. I'm always up for a beer not much use on inside info on your side of the industry as I'm a still photo rental shop. Central LA area- called Mid City now.

Our Big bens have a bolt hole so you can secure the pipe/speedrail. Pick is of a Baby but same thing on the Jr. That Monfrotto clamp looks like it has enough meat on it to drill a hole and Tap it to accept a bolt or better a T-handle bolt.

Baby Grid clamp https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/33137-REG/Matthews_425157_Baby_Grid_Clamp.html or Baby Pipe clamp https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/33212-REG/Matthews_429618_Baby_Pipe_Clamp.html but as mentioned a Cardalini should hold in place as well. If your friction tape is shot pick up some skateboard grip tape 5-10 bux- sheet will cover quite a few Cardalinis.

You can remove rental labels easily and who on set is going to check the serial numbers on cameras? Stolen gear is fenced or sold to unsuspecting people. have you checked every serial number on equipment on set?
