I think you are struggling with the idea of "mobile". This means it can move. So it wasn't abandoned, it just moved elsewhere. Shame I thought I might have a new des rez! Freya

If you find out where they abandoned it then please let me know as I'm interested. :)

I have the older QuartzColour RedHeads which are really nice compared to the one cheap chinese redhead I got free with some lighting gel. Way better build quality. Dunno about the more modern ones tho. Freya

Sound amazing! Might take you up on that if I ever fly into the west coast! :)

Gregg thanks for the nice thought. I think that would fall down on the "cheap airfare" part as it's dead expensive to get across the pond. It's further away than it seems, especially the west coast. I have to stay and face up to a few things over the next few months anyway but thanks for thinking of me! A bit surprised to come back here to all these nice messages! :) Thanks everyone! love Freya

Well this made me laugh a lot anyway. Especially following on from the foxy message. :) Still smiling now. It's actually been really extreme hail and sudden snowfalls here the last week or so but now it seems to be getting sunny again in time for your return Phil! Freya

Awwww! That's really sweet. Here is a secret message back at you: Well I wasn't meaning to turn this into a facebook type thing but when you get a nice message like Satsuki's it makes me understand the appeal! ;) Freya

4K compared to what? Changes compared to what? Shooting in HD on a different camera? 4K vs 2K on the same camera? Your question is too vague and has no context.

Traditionally the idea would be to try and get the largest MG up front and then use that to fund the next movie and try and go further with that. One of the problems with the movie industry right now is there are lots of people who make their first movie, give it away and then never make another one. So the companies get a total freebie and nobody goes forward. The companies then get used to getting freebies and don't want to pay for anything in the future and everything decays. The opportunity to make another movie is generally one you have to make yourself, especially these days and especially in the UK. Where were you thinking this opportunity might come from? Who will be making this phone call? Please watch out for deliverables in the contract. It's been mentioned a number of times but it's not a minor thing. Often these can be expensive to make. Then you are contracted to deliver all this stuff and if it costs you a lot of money you could be very much out of pocket. I understand where you are coming from but please be careful. Freya

Not exactly the same thing but while we are on the confessional kick that some people are doing here. I've been going through a really bad patch in my life lately and I have been guilty of venting here not on people but on cinematography or films I don't like or whatever and have been a bit extreme in that. ...which might not be what everyone wants to be reading so to speak. So I'm sorry I havn't been my usual self (which yeah might also not be your thing but there's not much I can do about that!) I'm presently trying to find a more positive way of distracting myself. So yeah sorry 'bout that! Freya

Are distributors interested in short films?
Freya Black replied to Patrick Cooper's topic in General Discussion
This statement is a bit of a contradiction in itself. It was a big thing but it never caught on? Dogme 95 caught on in a big way. There were nearly 40 feature length movies made that were certified as Dogme 95 before they got tired of doing the certification and called an end to it. Even after that there were more Dogme movie made and it went on to influence the style of a lot of stuff subsequently. The Mini DV era eventually came to an end however and people moved on. It's a bit like saying the French New Wave was a big thing but it never caught on. These were both huge and really popular movements in the history of cinema. It certainly didn't hurt Lars Von Triers career! Freya -

Well at least we seem to be in the same universe on that score then! Riget predates Dogma 95 and he wasn't attempting to do Dogma 95 stuff in Riget as the whole premise of the TV series breaks a ton of the Dogma 95 rules. Riget was just shot on a low budget without much in the way of lighting etc. It probably influenced Lars when they came to write the Dogma 95 manifesto but it's nothing like a Dogma 95 movie or an attempt at one. Freya Black replied to Patrick Cooper's topic in General Discussion
Ah well I was just disagreeing with what you wrote: Yes he has made some funky little shorts for the internet too, and has apparently done a lot of paintings which did not achieve mass commercial success or were intended to but so what? Freya -
Yeah I'd definitely like to see this! Although it has to be said... and Jeff Nicholls is going to hate me for this but:

Wait what about Twin Peaks then? How much mass appeal is enough? the Elephant Man did $26 million at the box office in 1980. David Lynch even made a movie for Disney. how much mass appeal does he have to have!? Freya -

Whaaa???!!! ....Wait do you remember Nelson Mandela dying in prison? Freya -
Phew! Glad it's not just me. The second trailer especially looked like ass. Not sure it looks that compelling in general to be honest too. Something slightly boring about it all but it might just be the trailer. Lead actor isn't very engaging so far either.

Color Lab Super 16 Telecine limited to 4:3/16:9 AR
Freya Black replied to Aaron Hunt's topic in Film Stocks & Processing
Surely most telecines are capable of zooming out, sometimes so you can even see the sprockets?? Has that been changing more recently? Obviously you would need to pillarbox it for HD but so what? Freya- 13 replies

Why LA?
Freya Black replied to John W. King's topic in Students, New Filmmakers, Film Schools and Programs
Thanks to everyone who has argued in this thread and discussed this for me. I'm short on 'leccy right now so can't post much about the idea myself but everyone here has been doing a great job at covering all kinds of ground. So that's really useful. Not sure how I feel about the attempts to marry me off in order to get into Hollywood tho but there we are! ;) Made me smile which is always a good thing. Freya
