  1. The Micro has many more advantages over the Pocket than just that! For instance the full size HDMI is much nicer on the BMMCC, than the BMPCC's Micro HDMI output On the topic of the Micro/Pocket, you can save a lot of money by not going Metabones but buying another cheaper focal reducer such as say RJ Lens Turbo. And using Nikon lenses rather than Canon electronic lenses.
  2. Sweet news for ultra low budget shooters! As the URSA Mini 4K is very very cheap secondhand, and while CFast prices have come down, a SSD is even cheap!
  3. Today you can buy a Sony PMW-F3 for around the same price as a BMCC. Which is almost quite unbelievable!
  4. Smart approach. Both the BMCC and BMPCC should only be treated as if the internal battery is a "bonus", which gives you the "feature" of hot swapping batteries! Yay! External batteries are cheap. Do it. Focal Reducers (such as the RJ Lens Turbo) are cheap. Do it! (cures low light complaints and not getting wide enough shots. On that topic... buy an UWA lens! Such as the Tokina 11-20mm f2.8, problem solved!) For all the fame the BMPCC/BMCC MFT got, they are still under rated cameras because people brought up so many ridiculous objections about them which are easy and cheap to solve. I regard the BMMCC as the "BMPCC v2.0", basically the BMPCC but improved! (in a way I kinda think of the BMPCC as an "original BMCC v2.90")
  5. Nikon D3300 is an ok camera, perhaps one of the best DSLRs for video at that price point. (as it shares the same sensor as the Nikon D5200) BUT..... mirrorless has taken the lead over DSLRs. I'd suggest instead you look at say a secondhand Panasonic G7 (or if on a very tight budget, a Panasonic G6 or Panasonic GH2). https://www.eoshd.com/2013/02/nikon-d5200-review/ https://www.eoshd.com/2013/02/nikon-d5200-vs-canon-5d-mark-iii/
  6. I'd avoid the BMCC EF like the plague (because... EF mount! Ugh) BMCC MFT is nice at that price, but I'd rather go for the BMMCC (Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera) as it has an identical image but in a smaller form factor and gives you 60fps slow motion. BMD URSA 4.6K Pro is the best from BMD, and is well under $10K But if we're focused on the BMCC perhaps you budget is much lower or you'd just have mentioned the URSA Mini Pro already? Now if we start considering outside the BMD range, it can become quite "subjective" your choices (even though there are many more GOOD choices out there). And can all depend on your priorities and tastes. Tonnes of options (from a bit under $10K, to waaaay under $10K), just to mention a very small selection: Panasonic EVA1 / GH5 / GH5S Sony FS7 / F5 / F55 / F65 (yeah I saw once a secondhand F65 go for just under $10K, CRAZY!) Kinefinity Terra 4K or 6K Arri Alexa Classic RED ONE / RED SCARLET MX / RED EPIC MX / etc
  7. Have you seen the bag set ups with a Zoom FCR8 (I own one myself), they're pretty crazy! But very portable.
  8. Was it a RED? :-P Agreed, very handy for indie shorts (or even features). These are called "wild takes" (as the audio has gone wild.... without picture!! Oh noes). Audio is only a few gigs here or there, thus not a big deal to fill up a bit more card space. It isn't like you have to deal with extra 4K raw files!
  9. Interesting, I hadn't heard of that one before, seems like kinda a fusion of the Sanken CS3e and the CS2 What do you find harder about the DPA?
  10. What camera are you using? Is rather surprising if your sound recordist can't get usable audio because of the camera you chose. Edit: ohhhhhhhhh........... you're shooting on film! I see. Sucks! :-( Why can't you go with a different film camera that works? As many many many *many* shoots have been done with film cameras which simultaneously capturing good dialogue too. Otherwise you are going to have to place a heavy importance on the actors being able to repeat their performance again accurately. You don't want rookie amateurs for this. And you still want to get as good scratch tracks as you can (I've heard of horrifying ADR experiences where they had to GUESS at words! As their so called "scratch track" was so bad).
  11. Is this even when shooting with a TC lockbox attached to it at all times?!
  12. So how would you easily do that, can you capture ProRes HQ from a single SDI output? Such as with an Atomos / BMD / etc recorder?
  13. How/where did you change the mount? Cost?
  14. More info here about the SMWB (uses a single AA battery, a very small transmitter!): http://www.lectrosonics.com/US/Menu-item-for-category-listing-module-497/product/561-smwb.html And the info for the dual battery version: http://www.lectrosonics.com/US/Menu-item-for-category-listing-module-497/product/562-smdwb.html Wish I could get one of each and a SRc! Ah well, maybe next year.... However, it is very weird that it has a max of 44.1KHz?? What on earth are they smoking.... Also is a damn pity there is no TC :-( Guess they're still keeping a reason for you to buy their PDR instead. But having a split gain recording option is nice.
  15. I'm quite proud I had a world first in reporting this last night ;-) I didn't realise just how close the announcement was though :-o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY5Cm0se-pw Because wow, is real! :-o I'm just trying to convince myself this isn't some kind of elaborate early April Fool's Day Prank! Ha. Impressive. Very surprised to see 8x Kashmir pre-amps on this device. (Although the price was a little on the higher side of my previous wild guess)
  16. Would be a 10 track recorder priced somewhere between the MixPre-6 and 633, I assume. Further competition to the Zoom F8! (as while the MixPre-6 is great, there are still many reasons why people might prefer an F8 instead) http://ironfilm.co.nz/leaked-is-a-new-sound-devices-mixpre-10t-coming-soon/
  17. If it is very light wind, then a Rode WS6 or similar will be enough, but anything heavier and you want a full blimp. But what is even more important is mic position, so that you get it in close and on axis.
  18. Wonder if IMDB Pro has an option to filter by film budget? Then pick say the recent year, then sort by rating, and jump to check out the pages in the middle! (so neither have the great ones, or the worst, just somewhere in the middle ish)
  19. We ended up shooting an entire scene with a Sony F55 in 4K raw, with the intention to put that together as a piece to then attract together further interest/funding to then go ahead to produce then entire feature film at once. But i kinda feel that is still a long way away..... (as you can tell perhaps from how far apart these posts are spaced out!)
  20. They exist already! But sadly you can't use it with a focal reducer at the same time! And not all have a clear filter option. Hopefully an electronic variable ND for Nikon F to MFT arrives one day in the future.
  21. Well, hopefully GH6 gains internal NDs then.
  22. Well if a person wants a 10bit HD camera on the cheap, and doesn't care about 4K, then BMPCC or Sony F3 are the obvious choices.
  23. I want to get myself a transit truck one day, a good half way compromise between a van and a full size truck.
  24. With the Blackmagic Design Micro Cinema camera there is no excuse for using a GoPro in a feature.
  25. Man, moments like this make me wish I still worked in the camera department so I could justify buying this! ;-)
