  1. Given the poor levels of testing it's hardly surprising, but the odds are that flu type symptoms are probably covid related, given that it's been a fairly quiet year for flu deaths this year and it's late in the season. I've noticed a few reports that suggest it may be higher than the official tally in NYC
  2. In the US there were 34200 deaths during the 2018-19 influenza season, I gather ,so far, there has been 84,931covid deaths to date even with the lock downs etc. I suspect with the virus running free the US economy would still have had a serious hit with the increased deaths and people off work ill and a possible loss of confidence about mixing with people. A dose of the flu is bad enough, but Covid 19 is like being mauled by the all blacks (NZ) rugby team according to one victim. In an election year the sitting president would probably be dead in the water.
  3. It's common knowledge that the flu vaccine is a best guess for the flu type that might be doing the rounds during any year,
  4. Covid 19 also kills blue collar workers more than white collar in the UK. There are differences with flu that can cause Covid to spread more quickly, plus it has a higher mortality rate: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/question-and-answers-hub/q-a-detail/q-a-similarities-and-differences-covid-19-and-influenza#:~:text=Mortality for COVID-19,quality of health care. South Africa seems to have use of its experience with HIV in reacting to Covid 19 https://www.ft.com/content/98d0d7c6-9bfb-4a64-bcab-19e0854a3b4d
  5. The Swedes have a different society to that in the USA and they don't have huge cities like New York. They also seem to have been carrying out voluntary social distancing, working from home etc, but it's still early days and their death rate compared to their population size is higher than other Scandinavian countries. There's also still the risk of a second wave and future unknowns.
  6. Their figures seem to be coming from the deaths during the current lock downs, which will be a lot lower than if the virus was given a free reign and people didn't apply social distancing or the government applied testing and tracing at an early stage as in South Korea.
  7. I've never had heat problems clipping the gels onto the barndoors of Redheads or Blonds. I wouldn't put them on a filter holder between the barndoors and the lamp itself, it gets very hot there, leave that space for the wire scrims and the safety glass.
  8. The next Beta of version 2020.1 Revision 121665 on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X is now available to download. https://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=19&id=217550&Itemid=81 This resolves some issues that have been reported and added better notification should a YouTube upload fail due to no channel being present
  9. UK broadcasters have one method for making dramas: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-52501156
  10. When you remove the lens, you'll find a ring with slot that screws into the C mount. Ensure that is tight. After doing this, I would check the verticals in the lens viewfinder are correct, since it doesn't take much to knock them off.
  11. A lot of UK businesses are discovering that their business interruption doesn't cover covid. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52280012 I suspect the lawyers may do well out of this.
  12. I believe they're the same optically, just the s4/i lenses have the /i Technology that collects lens data
  13. This web site seems to suggest that you can use Hama tape, it may be worth checking with them: https://van-eck.net/itable.php?lang=en&size=0&cat=plakpers&merk=172&type=S8 https://shop.van-eck.net/SF-0015.html
  14. The next Beta of version 2020.1 Revision 121161 is now available to download. https://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=19&id=216026&Itemid=81 Things have been progressing slower over the last few weeks due to the current world situation, Lightworks is hoping to announce the new release date very soon. There is a number of fixes plus more information added to the error.log for importing files
  15. Script editors don't usually get a writing credit, since they don't usually do any actual writing on the script, they make points or just ask questions. They can get script editor credit, which you often see on TV serials and soaps. If this is your personal project and you hired them, you can even ignore what they say,. however, make sure that their editing background matches your project. They may be good at one genre, but not so good at others, while others are good at a range of genres. If they do write additional material, the suggested credits by Phil makes sense
  16. I've never regarded the CP16 or the CP16R as a very quiet camera and I've used both types. It's quieter after a service, however, it got louder with time, so needed another service. Care had to be taken with mag loads, otherwise you could get a rubbing sound. I was never in the position where I didn't know it was running, an Aaton was another matter in that regard
  17. If it's a early silent film, it would be closer to 18fps than 24fps. For silent version of sound film on 8mm, it could be either since 18fps is pretty much the standard frame rate on Super 8 films. All you can do is watch a few and see of they look speeded up at 24fps.
  18. Facts would seem counter to that, there are lots of aircraft parked up at airports, aircrew no longer working and airlines worried about their futures. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52093009 "Passenger flights are believed to have been cut by up to 95%, but that still means one in 20 are taking off" according to this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-52098430
  19. Because it's a simpler calculation, without all the variables involved with the weather and psychopathic financiers doing crazy things for short term gain. There is a model for the stock market that does very well with it's stocks long term, but it doesn't satisfy the gambling urge of the "investors" who keep the stockbrokers doing very nicely without any personal risk to themselves.
  20. You're too late for that in many countries, some leaders were and perhaps still are behind the curve..
  21. Supermarket staff are essential workers. Our local shops have 2 metre markings on the floor and a hand spray for every shopper who enters. Germany is testing a lot more than other countries. it's the same procedure as the South Koreans, so they were ahead of the curve. .
  22. As the article regarding Sweden says, you can't apply their rules in different countries, They have a very small population compared to the USA and a different culture, they also have a different healthcare system.
  23. The UK government has suggested October as a possibly. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52084517
  24. They're already writing some scripts for short films: https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2020-03-23/bbc-scriptwriting-competition/
  25. Here's information from the BFI regarding the screen sector in the UK: https://www.bfi.org.uk/supporting-uk-film/covid-19-answering-questions-screen-sectors
