  1. Dunno. Didn't pay any attention to it. I had some other shots in the same place. They had some pictures slightly visible on the screen. So I guess it is a LED billboard. It made for some good lighting! The other shots are not as nice or colorful. (...and when I say natural color, I mean not post processed color.)
  2. Well, I can't argue. These were taken in Dec 2017. In Dec 2018 there was not much steam. But I attributed it to the weather being warmer. Since I am not in NYC full time I can't say why lack of steam. But fog is good to shoot in too. They all add drama to the scene. If you got good acting, then they usually just supercharge it unless they are excessive and overtake things.
  3. If you're shooting in the winter in NYC, work some steam into it. Even in the daytime, good steam possibilities. (If you do use steam, don't forget to give me some credit for creatives.)
  4. Don't know about the camera, but GD it sounds like a great feature film! Don't F it up if you can't do it justice. Maybe make your micro film as a selling promo to promote making a big budget film. (But don't just go by me...I'm underground.) Lots of hatred with the millennials vs boomers. Read some millennials wanted to torture boomers in the rest home. Lots to work with in generational clashes. From GAB... GBC_Dude @GBC_Dude 23 minutes ago · in Politics "I hope 1 day us millennials will be in charge of everything in America so we can do what Hitler did to the Jews unto you boomers! We need another holocaust! A boomer holocaust!" Edit...why can you other filmmakers send in something interesting like this instead of those boring things you want us to critique??
  5. Maybe back in the day, age was a badge of honor. Film and the rest cost lots of $$. They could not take a chance on ruining it. Kids had to prove themselves and work their way up through the pecking order. As far as 40's being old? Does not matter what I think, it is what society / employers thinks. I was talking to a guy in his late 30's that said he was turned down for a job cause they wanted someone in their 20's. (Non film job) Here is how it was in the 60s. Pecking order, lots of white guys and work your way up world. https://archive.org/details/RetirementPartyDavidR.Shackleford
  6. Per website: of interest to writers, artists, photographers, filmmakers, or any manner of creative entrepreneur. https://creativelawcenter.com/rip-off-protection-report/ I didn't download as I'm not that interested in copyright protection. As such, don't know if it is worthwhile or not. But thought I'd pass it along to those that are.
  7. It was OK. It was kind boring, so I skimmed through the last half. Nice, smooth technical work. I gave you a 'like' on YT for the effort. As was said, you are doing something and not just sitting on your butt. I didn't think the film was realistic with the pack, but then saw why the pack was needed for the story. I heard England is going to ban all single-use plastic. Will that shut down the plastic garbage bags too? If so, maybe people will have cloth bags to carry the trash out and dump things in the cans. So carrying a dog out in a cloth bag may be how it goes someday. In the USA we use black plastic trash bags. Your film was too toned down and bland. Would have liked it better with some sex or if there was some fighting and deadly force was used to save the girl. That is what we like in America. I was thinking guns and a nice contact shot to inject the hot gas into the perp, but I see you are in London, so guns are out. A contact shot will give your make-up artists something to work with. This is what happens from one .38 special contact shot into a folded cloth...the hot gas really can do some damage along with the lead. I like hearing about costs, so thanks for supplying that. I would like it if people submitting movies would give a detailed breakdown of cost.
  8. Here is a fashion shoot on Wall Street. Just found this last night. I shot this a couple years ago. (Candid) Poor girl, was freezing cold. I didn't stick around long enuf to figure out if the photogs wanted the shadows in her face or was it just for her to bear the sun until they shoot. I only stick around if I want to make a project or book on a subject. And even with 180 degree view, the lens could have been wider to get the homeless man in fully as well as the tops of the buildings.
  9. OK, made a mistake. Most were old or ancient. There were a few younger guys.
  10. Was watching Cinematographer Style. Everyone being interviewed was old to ancient. (But that was made in 2005.) When at large, all the video crews I see are kids. Don't think I've ever seen any old geezers in the crew. Is age a problem for you when looking for work?
  11. I got a PC, can they be sent into Instagram from a PC? (easily?)
  12. AV Geeks had a an educational film on the Internet Archive or YouTube that I liked. They said at the site they would sell higher res copies of it on DVD. I contacted them to buy a DVD. They said it is $10. I asked what res it was. They said if I wanted higher res they would have to scan it for me. I asked how much does that cost. They said what will I use it for. I said to put in my archive and watch. That was it. They refused to sell me a copy or answer any further emails. That is how it goes with AV Geeks. I'm looking for my own copy of the 16mm film to do my own scan.
  13. When on the street it is important to keep your cam updated for proper exposure. You can't shoot a circle fisheye on auto and get good exposure most of the time. The sky and sun ruin the exposure. If you have to fiddle with exposure, the candid opportunity evaporates. (Supposed to be a circle fisheye but came out like an egg here? I tried to cheat the low res photo requirements and that was what I got.) Selection from Living in a Cardboard Box artist's book by Daniel D. Teoli Jr. - Manhattan, (Candid)
  14. OK, this is an ancient and well hated part of society...the Boomer. But still, she put some effort in her fashion. Her shoes were something too. (Although they don't show up too well in the fisheye.) Very hard shooting circular fisheye on the subway. Dim light on the train and very slow lens. (f5.6 or f/8...I don't know which since it is adapted and loses light with the adapter extension. But it is a native f5.6 at best.) This has been pushed about 1-1/2 stops. I can never shoot with a good exposure on the subway with a circular fisheye. It would have to be a tripod shot to shoot it like a normal photog would want to shoot it...lens stopped down, decent ISO, etc. This is shot at 2500 ISO which is about the most I will go for for low quality. And even then 2500 is too grainy / noisy for me. But that is just how it is, you have to balance shutter speed, aperture, ISO to get something usable. I wanted to shoot another gal putting on her makeup....about a foot away from her face. And believe me, I can do it...candid. But I could get nowhere near her. Could not move an inch or even raise my arm above my head. Some days the subway is packed like sushi, really every day it is packed, just depends on the time. Street photography depends a lot of opportunity and luck. (Provided you have the basic skills to produce high quality work.) Sometimes I am afraid to even take off the lens cap, for fear of someone would rub against the front element of the lens which protrudes outward beyond the lens barrel. The old film era circle fisheyes are too hard to come by to ruin. I already messed up the front element of one of them. I shot this a couple years ago. Just found it last night as I make my way through 103,000 photos taken from 2013 to 2018 that have never been gone through. That is my New Year's goal, to go through the photos...or at least half of em. So far have gone through about 3,500 since late Dec 2018.
  15. Collages, photos, mixed media by Rosler. And a little of the collection at the Jewish Museum, NYC Could be NSFW, but mostly SFW Also an interesting endless loop 16mm projector. https://photographyshowarchive.art.blog/2019/01/17/martha-rosler-irrespective-exhibit-at-the-jewish-museum-in-manhattan/ PS...I thought the Sabbath elevator was haunted!
  16. My library had lots of old DVD copies of VHS movies. One day it sunk in...I'm old, what am I waiting for, not much time left to screw around, If I can afford it buy the best I can afford to watch, why not do it? So I dumped the old DVD copies of VHS and moved onto commercial DVDs and bluray, I also get lots of DVDs from the library so that helps with cost. If I was rich, no doubt I'd constantly upgrade to better IQ material, if the move would be a noticeable change. Like anything else, it all revolves around $$. I wouldn't care, I'd buy the upgrades and donate the old media to the library to recycle.
  17. That is a good reply for 2019. I'm underground, so my reply may not be appropriate in 2019 OP. I operate under the auspices of...if it is legal I do as I like.
  18. Yes, try for a real dead cat if you can get one without killing it. If you live in an area that is conducive to roadkill you can pick them up sometimes...but not on demand. When you film is done lets see a clip of the dead cat.
  19. I made a CD-R video recording 15 years ago with a Terapin CD video recorder. A test on 1.4.19 showed no visible deterioration of the content. Full report: https://danieldteolijrarchivalcollection.wordpress.com/2019/01/14/15-year-cd-r-archival-burn-test/
