  1. Looking forward to see what you shoot you have a fantastic body of work so far.....chapeau......long live film! haha
  2. exactly my point.......people like me....nobodies.....cant keep film alive......I have my freezer full but that's not enough......it IS up to the big guns to choose and shoot film and keep it as an artistic option......thats the whole point of me opening my mouth about it in here....proof being Nolan, Scorcese, Spielberg et al got the studios together or whatever they did, signed deals, and kept it alive.......not me....them.....and thanks to them the youth have become enamoured with film!!!! call them what you want....the hipsters...whatever......thank you all too.....YouTube is saturated with all these people trying out 35mm and medium format and large format film.........I can STILL shoot my beautiful 16mm stock for commissions and personal projects cos I can buy it.....and I can still shoot my beautiful BW, colour negative and slide film for my photography commissions and personal projects.....
  3. I, for one enjoy Tyler's contribution in here and it just would not be the same without him.....I don't always agree...sometimes I'm aghast (good word) and that's fine.....I like all the characters that rise above the flatlining in here....makes the place fun and entertaining and......with the truly top tier people with real IMDB profiles in here....extremely helpful and informative.....
  4. I'm sure this is the case Stuart.....appreciate the info......I just don't want to be stuck with ONLY digital in the future cos the big name DPs, Directors and Producers didn't care for the uniqueness of film....it's like losing homemade traditional cooking passed down through generations in favour of JUST supermarket off-the-shelf stuff...the joy is in the preparation, attention to detail, craft, sweat, time needed and presentation on the plate for the family to enjoy.....surely?
  5. no worries...you are expressing your opinion too....and I DO speak out of my ass as we all do hahah defamation of character? surely not......Quentin tarantino dislikes him maybe?? and its mutual from what I assume on the Linus Sandgren podcast....was he referring to Tarantino when he said what he said? who knows......did he counter-attack what Tarantino said about him that he "just doesn't want to light" or words to that effect?
  6. yes I saw this and enjoyed the video.....I have many Arri tungsten lights, really cool vintage case for them too and even an L7-C LED with a custom made case too so I'm a fan......I chose Aaton as my 16mm camera though over their SRs......and I LOVE the Team Deakins podcast and I subscribe to it........I'm a fan of the man.....but I think it would be great if he also promoted film not just the Arri LF camera......and to conclude......we are all accepting pay checks as artists in here are we not? haha I certainly am as a designer/photographer (but I shoot film as thats what you get with me....)
  7. I'm simply giving my opinion which is what forums are all about......I will ignore your aggressive reply.......no offence intended......
  8. .......and by sheer coincidence the point I put forward about always wanting the film option to be available (I'm hardly expressing anything that hasn't been said by countless people)......is what Linus Sandgren, film cinematographer par excellence, speaks in the latest Team Deakins podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/linus-sandgren-cinematographer/id1510638084?i=1000487915125 ....and Deakins himself states he loves film and certainly doesn't rule out shooting it again....which is great and the kind of thing we need to hear for the benefit of nobodies like me who want to shoot 16mm film by choice.....
  9. hahaha who the f••k am I in the big picture hahahah come on.....who gives a s**t what I think or say......and have I directly said what you say I said? hahaha this is ridiculous now.....
  10. Satsuki has explained it a lot better than me hahaha as I'm really a photographer that uses a 16mm Aaton for specific jobs/projects that's all
  11. I agree...anyway, all I'm saying is if the superstars people try and emulate and look up to care about their industry and not just corporate sponsorship pay-checks then they should support and promote film as well as their beloved new digital cameras so that nobody's like me don't get stuck with having to shoot motion with DSLRs in the future.......there's another big fish that's Sony this and Sony that....well as far as Im concerned, as a cinema lover your 'magic hour in every scene in every film' just looks so fake with your digital Sony.....is my opinion....hahaha sorry but its true......
  12. very interesting indeed..... I'm Cinelab London all the way for the personal touch and fantastic quality......
  13. excellent video thanks for posting......Robert Yeoman is also great for whip pans for Wes Anderson....
  14. I've heard them all...the best one for me was indeed the Bev Wood one......just expressing my opinion
  15. The Eddy - laughable at how ABSOLUTELY DIFFERENT episodes 1 an 2 look to the rest of the episodes......like night and day....and in my opinion....how 'amateur' the other episodes look in comparison
  16. ....people obviously get paid by Arri to promote their Alexa's....its so obvious...and fair play to them as we all need to get paid.....I just wish people in the public eye of cinematography were more 'responsible' and respectful to film so it always remains an option....come on....16mm film....NOTHING I've seen emulates the look of 16mm.....it transports the audience to a 'feel' - look' - 'era' of films that use it in my view like nothing else......
  17. I don't give a f**k about 'the debate' I know what I like and what I dont like.......I just want film to always be available to buy, shoot and process......I think the superstars like Roger Deakins should be more careful of what they project in order to preserve the artistic choice for the 'lesser' people and absolute nobodies like me..... .....if Roger Deakins went on and on about film like he does now about digital then many many many more films would be shot on film and that means we keep it as an artistic option...... I really enjoy the 'Team Deakins' podcast but when a guest speaks about their love of film its embarrassing to anyone with half a brain how they want to change the subject or how they steer conversations......I just think the superstars have a responsibility to keep the options open for everyone shooting motion images.....
  18. I'm not a DP/Cinematographer but a photographer 32 years and counting but anyway haha, for me quality of light is the difference to a scene made by light that comes in at different times of the day if natural or set up plus of course the colour it comes in at thats either cold, neutral or warmer
  19. very interested in the......development.....of this.......I'm converting a garden shed into a darkroom so Im looking to process up Tri-X super 8mm myself as an example
  20. ...so what did you all think of the film....its still digesting in my mind......
  21. thanks for a detailed response......not that I understand most of it but I will look up the things you say and learn......I like the sound of taking things to tape....Im playing with the idea of recording into the old tape recorders we used to have a mic with and record our voices....fond memories of those back in the 70s
  22. There's a particular 'sound' to 1970s films when characters speak and the style of foley.....I love it.....I could shut my eyes and can tell if a film is from the 70s........so I was wondering what equipment did they use back then to get this sound.....what mics on booms...what techniques.......the warmth of voices and the obvious use of foley.....I would love to be able to get this type of 'sound' in things I have in my mind to do......
  23. no problem whatsoever.......don't worry about it......film isn't nearly as 'fragile' as people who dont shoot it think.....core or no core....who cares...send to lab.....as long as wound tight into a rod you won't have problems
  24. glad its gonna be sorted out.....chapeau on shooting the 235
