  2. For the purposes of future testing for a project, I would like to get some opinions on the various characteristics of some Super 16mm primes. Flares, bokeh, sharpness, contrast, color temperature, the works. Lenses in particular I would appreciate information on are... Zeiss Super Speed Mk 1 Zeiss Super Speed Mk 2 Optar Illumina s16 Cinema Products Ultra T Any other prime sets that have both 16mm & 25mm focal lengths. I'm really only interested in prime lens sets, no single primes like the Angenieux 5.9mm or any zoom lenses.
  3. I have three Zeiss ZF.2 lenses for sale and two adapters. Each one has a custom lens gear and screw on front diameter adapter (35-50 = 77mm front, 21=95mm front). 12. Hi All, I'm shooting a live music session with a number of cameras in the next couple of weeks, and initially had Alexa Mini's pencilled, along with some rehoused Kowa anamorphic lenses. I've just found out that the rental house I'm dealing with can offer me RED Dragon 6K's as an option instead. I've loved all of the tests I've done with this camera, and really like the size of the sensor (being close to FF). Unfortunately, I've only tested sets of spherical lenses with it so far, and so I'm not sure if the Kowa's that I've got pencilled will cover the Dragon's sensor area. I know you can crop and shoot in a lower resolution, but if possible I'd prefer to make the most of the height of the sensor. Final delivery of the sessions is likely to be HD, and I know you can shoot desqueezed proxies in 2K ProRes, but I'd prefer to work with the RAW for the sake of the grade. If anyone has any experience with this combination, that would be really helpful. 17. so my issue is my Zeiss 8mm lens isn't focusing at all. Not clear, not sharp-- moving the focus ring does nothing at all. The focus ring moves smoothly and stops at both ends but nothing changes. Unfortunate since I was hoping to use it for a big project this week. Details: Lens: Zeiss 8mm with Arri standard mount Camera: Eclair NPR adapter: Calkovsky arri to c mount adapter The shop where I bought the lens is convinced it's the adapter, and while I still have a lot to learn about these things, it still seems like moving the focus ring should do something. Is this incorrect? At this point I'd be encouraged if adjusting the focus made it worse, just so I'd know something is happening. Calkovsky has been working with me trying to figure this out but we haven't got it figured out yet. He mentioned it's possible I might need a tiny tab to lock it in position. I have been able to at least get a clear image in the viewfinder if I hold the lens myself up to the camera maybe within a few millimeters of the mirror but that image does not change if the focus is set to infinity or to 12 inches. No changes at all. Any thoughts?

  22. Apologies if this question has already been addressed, but by what I could tell actual mathematical calculations haven't been brought up. Right now I have an Alan Gordon Mark V director's viewfinder. I'm trying to figure out what the exact focal lengths (Give or take 2-3 millimeter) would be for commonly used sensor sizes such as full frame, Canon aps-c, and the Red Scarlet. After calling Alan Gordon this is what I know for sure. The 35mm window is based off of super 35 3-perf film, 24.9 x 13.9. My baseline that would remain consistent on the viewfinder for these calculations would be the the 35mm window with a 16:9 aspect ratio. My question is as I find out the crop factor each sensor has in relation to the viewfinder do I need to apply that 16:9 aspect ratio to the sensor sizes? This part confuses me. In my mind I would want to leave the sensor sizes untouched. I suppose I'm just thoroughly confused. If someone can shed some light on what would be an appropriate course of action to take in figuring out what formula to use I would be so grateful.
  23. Hi Everyone, I'm thinking of buying a Kowa 16H lens for my Bolex H16 REX5 in the aim of making cinemascope. If I have fully understand this lens is adaptable directly on my proper lens, like for example a switar, with a clamp. I guess that I can find several models of clamps in fonction of the diametre of the lenses I want to use. The thing is that I want after that to be able to project my film with an Eiki NT2, and I wonder if I could use the same lens, as it is apparently made for both, camera and projector. How can I adapt the Kowa on the projector? With an other clamp? Here are I am with my supposition...
  24. So I had a heated discussion today about this topic with other "cinematographers". I had information thrown at me from all sides and I don't know what to believe anymore .Can somebody please clean this up for me once and for all. Ok I bought a Sigma Art 18-35mm 1.8 lens for my FS5. The lens is a APS-C so it fits well on the camera. A lot of people are using it. So the question is... Is this really giving me 18-35mm or 28.8-56mm? I was under the impression that the 1.5 crop factor only applied when you were using a full frame lens. A guy then tells me all lenses are for full frame and you have to multiple 1.5 with any lens that you put on it no matter what its for. He was really furious when explaining this to me. Who is right?
