  1. Hello guys! I've got a question for you that could sound stupid but I am thinking about it for a couple of days. I've got a nizo pro and that has been used by me only one time, just to test if it's in order. Everything seems to be ok, but I forget to try the macro setting. Now I have to shoot some macro scenes with this camera and I am looking for suggestions on how to get the frame perfectly in focus. The manual says to always use the longest focal leght to get the focus, (use the telephoto setting for focusing. To focus (...) set the focal lenght to 80mm). Now my question is, how can I use the tele for focusing if I need to use the macro? Do I simply have to switch in macro on the lens barrel, set the focusing range to the closest value (i.g. 90cm) and use the zoom untill the vertical lines of the subjects appear unbroken in the viewfinder? Doing so do I get the frame in focus? Can someone suggest me a workflow for focusing in macro mode? thank you very much!!! Mario
  2. Greetings all! I am ecstatic about beginning shooting on Super 8 film. I have been doing 35mm still photography for a little less than a year. I love analog. Super 8 seems like it is going to be a great format for me. I am acquiring a Nizo 148 xl, which has a fixed schneider-kreuznach variogon 8-48mm;1.8 lens. Technical projects I want to work on: Getting an anamorphic rig to work and processing negatives via C-41 protocols and processing reversal film (tri-x). I have already found a great thread about processing tri-x and color negatives should be easy enough. I have seen many threads about shooting anamorphic with Super 8 on this forum, which has been very helpful. Here's what I am worried about: getting the anamorphic lens adapted to the fixed zoom lens on my Nizo. I believe the filter thread diameter on the zoom lens is 49mm. Kowa anamorphics Seem to be good for these small lenses used on Super 8 cameras.I was thinking of getting a Kowa 16-A, which has an outer diameter of about 39mm. They seem to be afordable for me on ebay. The 16H is apparently better, although I am not sure why. I have also thought of getting an SLR Magic, which would need to be stepped down, as the outer diameter is 52mm. Any thoughts, suggestions? What are some recommendations for getting this kowa to work with my Nizo? Good ways to provide support for the lens once fixed to the camera? How should I be calculating aspect ratio and optimum focal lengths to set the zoom lens at? I have seen recomendations, but I'm not sure how these values were deduced. Thanks is advance!   3. Hey all, hoping someone can give me some advice. I've just purchased my first super 8 camera...a Nizo 801 Macro. I shot my first film on it over the last few days whilst in Namibia. I've read everywhere that shooting at 24fps I should get a run time of around 2.5 minutes but as I was shooting I realised it was going down way faster. I was shooting 24fps the whole time. Ive just tested the camera without any film in and my run times going by the dial are: 18fps 1.38 mins 24fps 1.08 mins 50fps 0.34 mins Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fault with the camera? Will the motor run quicker when there is no film in it? I also realised after getting back that I had 1.2v AA batteries loaded rather than 1.5v AA's that the user manual recommends. Also I had 1.5v light meter batteries rather than 1.3v whilst shooting in Namibia. Though when testing the motor I had changed them to 1.3v batteries. Ive just sent off the film for processing so hoping something comes out. Would really appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this! Thanks Joe
  4. Alright I'm having a conundrum this morning as I pack for a weekend in the woods. I really would love to shoot one of my carts of Ektachrome (64T or 100D) I have left. Also... I want to use my newly acquired Nizo 156 Macro as it's a lovely little travel camera and I have the UWL wide angle lens for it as well. Also it has a 220ยบ XL lens (1/28th). I have shot 200T in this camera and it came back great so the camera definitely works. Thing is... it has dumb metering. I've attached an image of what the manual says about how it reads carts. In THEORY... I feel like it should read a 100D cart correctly as 100D as it SAYS it can meter 100D. But when I tested the aperture looking at a building outside my door, it was reading around 2.8ish-4 on the Nizo 156 Macro THEN when I tested that same cart on my Canon 514XL (I've shot Ekta and Provia 100D in the 514XL with great results) and my trusty Canon 814XL-S (only shot 64T in there but it meters everything really), they both read around F8. I even tried Tungsten notching the 100D and got roughly the same results in both (when on tungsten as I don't want any filter engaged). And to make things even more interesting, I realized the 156 Macro's filter switch is just connected to a little rod that tests whether the cart has a notch or not. As in... if you move the switch back and forth, the little rod goes back and forth. So it's not really detecting anything on its own. Thoughts? It must be reading the 100D as 25 or 40ASA (either as Tungsten or B&W... what's the difference in cart??) since it was Why does it say it'll read 100D when clearly it doesn't. How does it detect daylight film? I have seen only a couple examples online with this combo that seem good but no idea how they metered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WrGfBdKfZs Super 8 metering is crazy.... Hi I have a Nizo under the eyes with an oxidized battery (batteries) it is a 3046 and I wonder if I can see its operation with only the power cable because only a diode of the filter in the eyepiece lights up . No diode on the outside and no camera action. Maybe you have to go through the batteries? Thank you
  6. I would like to protect the lens of my Nizo 561 Macro. i have been trying to find a lens cap for it, but I do not know what size I should I get. I read somewhere that it's a 52mm size. I ordered a screw on lens cap, but its way too big. Does anyone know what size I should get? I would like to get one that either screws onto the lens thread or goes over the lens. Thanks.
  7. Hello, I will be shooting on a Super8 camera, specifically the Nizo 561 Macro, with Wittner Chrome 200D Reversal Color Film. There's a few things I'd like to know so that I can get the correct exposure for every shot. 1) The Nizo camera cannot read the 200D ISO for the Wittner film...What does it default to? What should be the compensation I make using Automatic Exposure? 2) Does the Nizo recognize that it's a Daylight stock and not a Tungsten stock? If not, should I make any adjustments when I'm shooting in Daylight? What if I'm shooting in Tungsten light, should I make any adjustments? I will not be using a lightmeter and will be relying on the automatic lightmeter inside the camera. Any other tips and tricks would be appreciated! Thank you,

  9. Alrighty, looking to purchase a Super 8 camera to get the experience of producing something narrative through the film medium. Ive been shooting alot of HDSLR narratives...but i'm excited to have an opportunity to shoot and edit on film, and really feel the value of each and every frame. Saying that, I realize how niche Super 8 is. It will be expensive, so i've determined that I will try shooting and developing the film myself, editing linearly, and projecting to view. If I do decide to digitize my media, where is the cheapest to get 1 or 2 carts developed and have decent 1080p scan. I live in Ohio, so centers in New England would be better. On to cameras... I want to get the cleanest image I can from Super 8, and generally want to treat the process as much like shooting 16mm as possible. That means that I will try to manually expose every scene I shoot...how consistent is that to do compared to HDSLR shooting? Also, whats the deal with stocks? How does the 100D differ from the 200D? Where does asa rating come into play? Generally what are some tips for dealing with tri x? Finally, which camera would be best to invest in? I've been seeing the Nizo S800 and S560 models and Canon's 518sv models. Are these "good" cameras? Which has better glass? Are there any that are gonna be better/more bangy for bucky for what I want to be shooting (Alot of tripod)? Also, I am kinda mystified by the price differences between cameras. Does it all come down to features, because it certainly appears like the huge price differences have to be coming from somewhere else. Perhaps manufacturing standards?   10. I have various S8 Canon AF310 : 8.5 wide angle is too short Beaulieu 6008 Pro : Heavy for travel. Chromatic abberation in tele position Canon 1014 xl-s : too heavy and I have not very sharp images in low light Sankyo Em60XL : chromatic abberation in "tele" position but compact, 24fps !, good in low light. Tremor when I Took over this camera Sankyo ES 44XL : 18fps only ! but sharp Nizo 481 : viewfinder dark in low light, I have special cell but I dislike this system. The silver aspect is good for this camera. Canon 514 xls : I don't know I'm traveling tomorrow in Thailand and I don't know which to take, I'm looking for the most sharp, light weight. I will move a lot. I have Vision 3 50D and 200T, 500T Thank you for your quick help ;)
