Brian Rose
All, Here's a question I thought I might put forth, as a break from all the serious discussion, and as an opportunity for us all to express our deepest filmic fantasies. The question is: if you had unlimted money and resources, and could even invent new technology, what film project would you embark upon? I'll start. I would adapt Dante's "Divine Comedy" as three epic films, and shoot it on (my dream, however illogical) 70mm three strip technicolor (with IB release prints, of course). Either that or do my own version of Pearl Harbor, only no BS love triangle, and a strict adherance to historical accuracy. Take that Michael Bay! Now let's here what you all have to say! Best, Brian Rose
Josh Bass
An action film about an underappreciated production assistant who has to save the cast/crew of the movie he's working on when the set is taken over by terrorists while he's out getting lunch. He uses a BnC cable, uncoiling it (over/under) like a whip. Totally freakin' sweet. Edited February 20, 2006 by Josh Bass
Premium Member Greg Gross Posted February 20, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2006 I don't know if everyone has seen the film "Havana" directed by Sydney Pollock and the DP was Owen Roizman ASC. Its a period film based on 40's,50's Cuba. About rev- olution and romance. My fantasy is this- Write a good script about 40's,50's Florida,pri- vate eye character, art deco style captured on film of that period of time. About a private eye, romance, murder, and the cuban revolution. Strong plot, story, strong period film. Of course no one but Sydney Pollock could direct it. It would be the continuing story of "Ha- vana". We would have to bring Robert Redford back and Alan Arkin. Of course you guess- ed it only Mr. Roizman could shoot it. I just want to be Mr. Roizman's assistant, apprentice under him. How's that for a fantasy? Of course Mr. Redford's character would be working for the CIA under the guise of a private eye. Greg Gross
Dominik Muench
ulimited resources ? in that case id shoot "Otherland" by Tad Willams...the only problem, to convey the story accuratley the movie would be around 10 hours long i guess....anyone know the books ? that would be an insane project to realized, considering the many locations and CG work. but on a more realistic level.... a remake of Cojote Ugly...without John Goodman....and any other male character would be a good start ;)

Chance Shirley
I've long dreamed of shooting a black and white 'scope sci-fi adventure movie (a la FLASH GORDON) using miniatures, practical effects, and old-school optical tricks (no CG). Which I guess would be kind of like the original, non-special-edition of STAR WARS, but in black and white.
Premium Member Adam Frisch FSF Posted February 20, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted February 20, 2006 I've always wanted to film my fellow countryman Frans G Bengtsson's viking saga The Longships (recommended read) in 65mm. There just hasn't been a really good viking movie ever made. But anything in 65mm would do... :D

Filip Plesha
I'd be a movie character.. what he would do is irrelevant, probably nothing for the entire movie, so people would walk out after 10 minutes. But the character would own a Hasselblad 503CW body, Zeiss Planar 80mm 2.8, a lifetime supply of Kodak EPN, EPT,EPH and E100G , and lifetime supply of all Velvias and Provias, a darkroom all set for Ilfochrome printing as well as optical RA4 printing from negatives. A few kits of Broncolor strobes and HMI's. A hasselblad H AF camera with 39 megapixels just for fun and experimenting with digital capture. A lightjet machine just to go with it. He'd also have a a nice Sinar view camera kit. He'd shoot some ad campaigns or editorial whenever he felt like (no pressure), and earned enough money to spend an entire year traveling and taking pictures till a next campaign. In the free times he'd shoot portfolios for pretty girls for free (because he has as much money as he needs already). When he got tired of photography, he'd sit at his Steinway piano and play some Boogie Woogie, and nobody would complain about the noise. ...what's funny is, some people actually live like that well back to my zoom lenses
Premium Member Tim J Durham Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted February 21, 2006 Dune. Only without all the obvious mistakes made by the two existing screen adaptations. I thought- up until Paul Atreides (Muad'dib) lead the attack atop the worms- that Lynch's "Dune" was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. The worm-riding was just about the worst. shaaaaaaaaCHAAAAAA! ridiculous. If I had unlimited funds to make whatever I wanted, it might be Henry Miller's "Tropic of Cancer" or Peter Matthiesson's "The Snow Leopard", neither of which would require HUGE budgets. What I'd want to spend the money on was maintaining total control.
Dickson Sorensen
I always wanted to shoot a documentary, super 16 would do, on the surface of a planet rotating around a nearby star. Perhaps near Alph Centauri.
Craig Knowles
A non-language-specific film that would be shown the world over, its goal being to bring the people of the earth together in the understanding that we are more the same than we are different. It would be filmed all over the world, in all different cultures, and would make people stop killing each other as a result of our petty human squabbles. James Steven Beverly
I'm on the set of my latest 200 mil Block Buster with Nicole Kidman and Denise Richards (It's deserted... after a long day of shooting. It's late. The rest of the crew's gone home. Of course, there would be would be a full moon, on the beach... waves lapping at the shore softly, gipsy music in the background, Chriistaul champaine in a guilded, antique ice bucket with fluted Wadderford crystal glasses, The violinists would be blindfolded, there's a roaring fire and a large, white bearskin rug streached out before it beneath a sheer canopy...and oysters... lots and lots, and LOTS of oysters.... Nicole would be wearing a Pincess Leia slavegirl outfit, you know the one with Jabba the hut... Denise would be wearing a WW1 German helmet, stilletto heels and pink chapps annn..... What were we talking about..... Oh Yeah) a remake of Rudolph Valentino's "the Shiek", starring ME....and of course Niccole Kidman and Denise Richards.... AN MAYBEEEE Kate Beckinsale and Charlese Theroen..... O.K. maybe Keire Knightley, Gwen Stefani, Liv Tyler Anne Hathaway, Sacrlett Johannson, Hilery Swank (but only if she's dressed like a guy) Angelina Jolie, Hillery Duff, The Olsen twins, Britney Spears, Neve Champbell, Penelope Cruz, Selma Hayak, Catherine Zeta-Jones. But that would be all.... well maybe Orlando Bloom. Does that sound too egotistical?

Premium Member Hal Smith Posted February 21, 2006 Premium Member Share Posted February 21, 2006 I'd like to shoot 5 minutes of film with the same visual impact as any 5 minutes of film taken from "Lawrence of Arabia". Wouldn't "Tropic of Cancer" end up looking like a "Henry and June" remake? :) Edmond, OK

As much as I admire Philip Kaufman, that film really sort of layed there. It was not based on the book but was meant to tell his story during the time that book was written. Big mistake as far as I'm concerned.
Jonathan Spear
I'd love to assemble a full length feature film with Steve Vai and Zakk Wylde based on thier music, philosophies on music and life, a ton of gratuitous shredding and crazy (but not neccessarily abstract or absurd) special effects. No unnecassary violence or sex. And in 3D anamorphic of course. The leading lady would be Nicole Kidman.. and she'd have to work extra to hard to get the part ;) . Jonathan Spear
Uh, when you are able to pull off a 50 note cadenza on E Lydian using six finger tapping in less than 5 seconds or rewrite and (perform) a classic Paganini caprice with impeccable sweep picking, intervalic and modal improvisation -- not to mention tour the world and play in several cool bands -- you'll realize why Steve might actually have something interesting to say. Until then, stop downloading porn and get jobs.
