Arthur Sanchez
OK... what to do with, yet another white elephant. It's a modified REX 1 with 200' foot load capacity. I got this long ago... works great... but was thinking of making it available. Either like it is or converting it to super 16mm or something. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions on this? Arthur! Phillip Mosness
I've never seen one like that. I do have a vague recollection of 200' metal spools. Is that what this uses?
Pavan Deep
I have never seen this before either, I suspect it uses the 200ft spools like the Beaulieu R16, it's the same as the 100ft daylight spools only bigger. Pav
Arthur Sanchez
YES.... I have 2 - 200' spools for it also!!!...But I'm thinking is need a motor... that much footage and at most 25 sec chunks... What say ye?

Doug Palmer
Quite extraordinary. Was it actually made by Bolex ? The 200ft spool method is great as it's easy to load in 'daylight' and opens the way for longer shooting. It also looks quite a compact design on your Bolex, so I wonder why it didn't take off. I wonder if anyone went the other way, ie. sawing off and converting a Bolex to 50ft :D Probably impossible... maybe it could be done to a Beaulieu. Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted July 12, 2017 Premium Member Share Posted July 12, 2017 Had to look up my calendar whether we have April, 1st. It’s a REX 2 from between 1958 and 1963. The spool shafts would need to have a new location and drive spring. A white giraffe to me. The best thing Paillard ever did to the H-16 was to give it a big base for a good stand. Can you put this model on a tripod? Not so well, I think.
Arthur Sanchez
It looks like the conversion was done by Golden Camera Services. I know of about 8 others somewhere out there. They also appear on ebay from time to time... have not see one in over ten years thou.
Freya Black
I think it looks really cool and it is problably fine when mounted on the right kind of tripod which would perhaps be harder to find now but all the same... Really nice find. Thanks for sharing. :) Freya
