  1. What David said. Lighting board/dimmer rack, trussing or studio with suitable grid, etc., etc. Do you have the budget to pull this off?
  2. Any type of rig that puts the head out over the edge of the balcony is a safety issue for anyone on the street. Could you attach a safety chain or cable from the the head to the balcony above?
  3. Are you selling your own personal gear or are you affiliated with BBS?
  4. Calculate it: http://www.lexproducts.com/technical-help/voltage-drop-calculator/
  5. Heat from practical an issue? Really? Less wattage, less light without a color shift, buy an assortment of low wattage Tungsten: 15, 25, 40w/
  6. No practical experience other than shooting in a wet mine. I'd say a tent with a floor to store equipment in would be good to mitigate sand incursion into equipment and cases. A strong vacuum to clean equipment before and after use might work better than a brush but might not be practical on location.
  7. Cheap DJ lighting controllers have several functions built in, I believe chase is one of them. Otherwise rent a flicker box from a lighting grip rental.
  8. You can get them and almost anything else mechanical, electrical, etc. from places like McMasterCarr or MSC. Delivered to your door.
  9. ACF-50 $18+ for an aerosol can on Amazon. Not in my budget. http://learchem.com/products/acf-50.html
  10. Phil is correct, manufacturer's website states transformer ballast. ....and no barn doors, lenses or any type of rudimentary focusing mechanism. These are more aptly called MBLs, Make Believe Lights.
  11. In theory the BBs fill the space between the hex head of the bolt and the interior of the tube, wedging the bolt in place so you can remove the nut.
  12. I don't see a frame that shows both vials indicating that the head is level before you start the pan. So your clip doesn't prove anything to me. I give up.
  13. That's your perception of what is happening, if you were to put an accurate level across the machined surfaces of the head you would see otherwise.
  14. No...three points, the three legs create a plane, you've leveled the plane in the X and Y directions with the two levels, unless you move the tripod, the head will remain level in any position.
  15. The images were great, but as one person who saw it commented, "It looked more like a stageplay than a film". We won't even mention any historical inaccuracies.
  16. Yup, same continent.
  17. Hmmm...company based in Mt. Laurel, NJ, but the product Phil showed is not sold in the USA? Must be made in metric units so it appear bigger, but still fits on the tiny Craft Services tables on shoots in the UK.
  18. Everything is bigger in America.
  19. Irem are made in Italy, might be one. I'd check inside for a marked circuit board or other large part like a power transformer. No label anywhere on the ballast?
  20. Test the output with a lightmeter at various setting of the slider (min., max., in-between), interpolate the rest.
  21. Send an image over to Galaxy Lighting Repair and ask them. http://www.galaxylightingrepair.com/contact.html
  22. A black silk doesn't double as a solid, but it does soften the light passing through it without an bounce back or scatter.
  23. If your 15A breaker is tripping on the combination of a 1K and a 650W, you either have other loads on that circuit or the breaker has been tripped to many times and has become "weak".
  24. The 2000W Honda will produce only 1600W continuous output. Not nearly enough to strike the two 800w Jokers you mentioned in your first post. 1600W of LED lighting might be more than enough for your shoot but can you afford the rental costs? Might be cheaper to rent a larger generator and use cheaper, more easily sourced Tungsten lighting.
  25. You could fly a 12x or 20x Ultrabounce rag above the lights and out of frame to re-direct some of the lost light. Could also bounce a light or two off it to raise the overall level of illumination.
