  1. Problem is a Bayer sensor.. never real 444.. only stripe or 3 CCD sensor will eg F35,F900,Genesis .."built for cinema" doesnt really mean anything in this regard.. even Alexa is not "real"444.. I believe the internal F3 is only 8bit 420.. definitely not cinema :)..so even 10 bit 422 is a massive advantage .. but 444 isnt really that huge a leap in comparison.. 99%of the time.. but getting any from the internal recording is a good idea for sure..
  2. Is that you turning up with a pulse .. or with gear.. what sort of stuff do you shoot.. Im sure there is a fairly big gap between high end commercials.. and mid F5 /C300/500 type corp shoots.. with inflation/house prices etc.. I think rates have gone down alot say over the last 25 yrs..
  3. Yes probably the same sensor.. wouldn't make sense to make one just for the Fs5 I guess.. but the camera itself is not a baby Fs7 and not in the same league as the F5.. which is why its only about $6,000.. no Cine EI.. no LUTs.. only 8 bit 420 4K,records to SD cards and only XAVC L (Long GOP).. no RAW..but a great HD camera or B camera..it replaces the Fs700..
  4. I dont know about the Fs5.. its a bit more of a glorified prosumer camera..and would be very front heavy.. but the Fs7 should be totally fine.. its the same sensor,if not the same processing,as the F5.. the big difference is its an E mount lens port.. not the EZ/PL of the F5/55.. and apparently on the flimsy side.. any zoom lens ,support would be a good idea.. Centre crop is literally that.. just reading off the centre of the S35mm sensor.. its also a handy digital zoom..when shooting off the full sensor in HD.. strangely the new Canon 4K C300 II .. has centre scan.. but only in HFR mode.. even though you have 24/25/30 fps available .. there is no audio in that mode.. they just cant seem get right over at canon in the video camera dept..
  5. But your onto another subject (face) another background and angle at least... personally I always like a dirty over shoulder too.. the 30 degree rule.. as I know it.. is presuming a direct cut to the same subject.. its a very old rule from early silent film days.. actually I wasn't taught this either at film school.. far better to have a cut away to another shot or change the frame size significantly enough to avoid jump cuts.. similar size frame direct cut will always look like a jump cut regardless of 30 degrees.. or 45 for that matter.. the only time you would want to do this would be for exactly that jarring effect.. IMHO anyway..
  6. I dont think it really applies that well though.. if the frame is anything like similar it still looks like a jump cut.. well over 30 degree,s.. conversely ,a "decent" enough change in frame size even on the same axis is totally fine.. move it over a little if you want too.. I think the change in frame size is the key.. where as a medium change in frame size and moving the camera even 50 degrees or more will still look like a jump cut.. or at very least not aesthetically pleasing..unless thats the effect you want of course..
  7. Hi Tyler.. Im so happy we can 100% agree on something at last :) .. fantastic !
  8. Well yes always going to be the.. escape life for 90 mins type films.. and TBH I really see anything wrong with that.. as long as thats isnt the only type of film we can see.. and so far personally i think there is sill plenty other good films around.. broadcast TV has become really bad.. now even Discovery.Natgeo etc seem to be churning out exploding things and such rubbish.. but on the other hand there are these really good TV drama,s around now.. since the success of Break Bad etc.. I just stick to Netflix now !
  9. Well I guess its like the old TV thing.. do people want crap TV or are they dragged down to that level .. the latter I believe..
  10. A bit different but in my opinion far worse .. are films shot with 3 or 4 endings.. shown to pre release audiences.. and then the most popular ending is chosen.. !!.. talk about lack of courage of your own convictions..I really wonder what director would ever do this.. unless they have a big tax bill..
  11. were you shooting outside with ambient day light ?.. just wonder as maybe you had the flicker the whole time but noticed more as the ambient day light went down.. ?
  12. The only times I had this effect when I was a focus puller.. was when the actors screwed up...
  13. The author is a well known Sony guy.. if you have an F3 I think the F5/55 guide might be better than the Fs5.. or just get onto google still seem to be quite a few people still using F3,s.. those guides will be quite specific to each camera I think..
  14. Pocket warmers .. we had a barney with sewn in pockets for those hand warmers you crunch up and it sets off some chem reaction to give off heat.. I wonder if you could modify the Porta Brace Polar Bear cover.. that would be ideal..
  15. Years ago as an assistant shooting way up north in Canada.. we actually had the film itself split sometimes.. !! but that was super cold .. -30+ C with wind chill.. use a barny ! ... the film gets vert fragile.. and change all the lens /tripod fluids to weaker "winter" ones.. we had lenses, seizing up.. the good news out side in the sun and snow your usually at T11-16 anyway .. always keep the batteries in your coat pocket or similar..
  16. what is the scene.. I just get the whole video from the link..?
  17. One with wings and a Jet engine... sorry couldn't resist ...
  18. Can you do a check at all..? others have alot more experience than I do with larger lights.. but one universal thing is that the frost and texture on the glass will act as a diffuser ..if its a very heavy frost more diffuse the light.. which can be helpful.. but I would think will make it harder to achieve a shaft effect.. as the light will be scattered about by the frost.. but it will help to "fill" any dark corners the room .. 5' x 6' is a fairly decent size window.. depending how big the room is of course.. !
  19. "shiny things, violence and grotesque humor".. sounds like a Tarantino flick... :)
  20. I read that US football .. well what you guys call football .. made a big push for 4K recording.. so they can zoom right into the action on replays .. in HD..
