  1. What has the 7008 got over the 6008 PRO? LCD Counters, easy power slider swicth, easy extra release button on top? Terribly nice Angénieux lens :) The rest of the logic is the same or am I missing something?
  2. They can print what they specified it to be and what they tried to adjust the regulator for. But if there is an unregulated speed then they can only print aproximate :) It is more a linguistic problem rather then a speed problem.
  3. Probably the slow-motion function works by disengaging the speed regulator and applying full voltage to the motor. Then it is unregulated and it is only a best guess :) It would indeed be dependend on the condition of the batteries. The Canon are known to be spot on with their standard fps. I.e. on a full length of a cartridge (3000-4000 frames) the would only be off by 1 frame. Very suitable for sound-syncing without spending thousands :) But you would need to test the accuracy.
  4. It doesn't need a dedicated battery for the lightmeter. The rubber belts are the weak point of these Nizo series. If they are good you are lucky and ought to give them a spin every month. If a camera has been in a resthouse for 20 years nobody should be surprised they are broken, have become brittle or stretched and cause a high pitch sound when they slip.
  5. You mixed up the URLs a bit? super8arena is the same man as cheap-super8camera-shop Lüdenscheid is in Dortmund area. Both have the same telephonenumber and street address. Apparently the owner is trying to get ahead in the Google results with a cheap-look facade-shop :) Here you have some nice comments on super8camera-shop http://www.cinematog...showtopic=32762 In Germany consumer protection is quiet good adn they have to live up to that there. Commercial sellers must garantee their items and buyers have a right to return good. Even on eBay. That is why private sellers on eBay make such a fuzz with their legal statements. From across the Atlantic I would not buy from these sellers. And neither from nearby :) There you get the advice to petrol your newly bought camera. Executing your rights is very difficult and the exchange rate is not favourable. And then all other expenses on shipping and red-tape. Also both sellers, in my estimate, are merely listing fleamarkets finds and where ever they get these goods. eBay, photoshows, local classifieds etc. Germany is crammed with top-cameras. You can hope that things are tested a bit and that is it. Certainly no expenses are made on overhaul or clean and lubes. But then, when you see at what price US shops purchase from EU and then need get some margin on that you can understand why cameras are so deerly priced in NYC Just my two cents.

  7. Of course I meant to write: It makes you look like Robert Capa. meaning: like he appears in this often used photo from the spanish war in which he holds a ciné camera to his face. The camera there is distinct because of the two protruding roll magazine. A bit odd for somebody who became famous because of his still-photo reports. Not to start a discussion about that :) BTW when ran with external batteries the C300 with DS-8 is quite a reporters camera too. Really nice for weddings an such. Makes a nice impression and it gives a lot of length and quick change magazine for effect change. Although the DS8 magazine has no light trapping door on the gate opening. :(
  8. None of my business of course but I thought Jürgen (the writer) missed the opportunity to post a text on his new book here. And stakeholders are not listing it. Should be interesting to anybody in the business contemplating the use of genuine Super-8 for an upcoming project. If Spielberg can then anybody can. Rather then relying on digital helpers to achieve looks-like but does really have it :) It is not all that hard. Check the original listing in the Super-8 section of cinematography.com. Also note that it is now available through Amazon and eBay. From US in US$ :) Super-8 section thread on this book
  9. It just needs 9 volts and plenty ampere from the batteries or from an external powersupply. There is no half voltage taken from the batteries like with the 4008s The manual is spread so much who does need a paid download?
  10. Yeah, it is spam. This camera showed up all of a sudden somewhere else in a thread too. Who would want to use these 30 year old lenses on a modern digital thing? While there are so many really good c-mount from Fuji and others.
  11. Wittner firmly states that only the availability of small batches of 122meter rolls is ceasing. Large quantities (who can buy these :) ) will remain available and as long there is E100D in S8 cartrdiges there will be very long rolls of 610 meter of DS8 . Which are the raw material for S8 cartridges. Of course Wittner will supply 122 meter rolls which will be rolled down from these 610s
  12. 400 feet DS-8??? That equals 16 cartridges of S8 :) That is a lot of footage. 40 minutes at 25fps And you want to shoot all of these without processing in between? I own a Elmo C300 Trifilmatic with DS-8 back (and all others). I find these 100 ft rolls to seem to take forever. Should be good for travel but then only by car as the camera is too heavy for anything else. Although I did use it with a shoulder bag with a very wide strap during a few days in Paris. It makes you like Robert Capa, a very famous photographer who is often shown with a ciné camera to his face :)
  13. . I am glad they are but it certainly is not reperforated 16mm (with perforation)
  14. Which 16mm stock do they use? It is not possibly to reperforate 16mm perforated stock into DS8. More likely they just roll it from Kodak DS8 1000ft long rolls :) And make you pay. Better enquire with Kodak or Wittner. If S8 is not to stop the DS8 long rolls will not stop either. It is the basis for S8 cartridge filling in the factory.
  15. Quit holding out? What is that supposed to mean? I cannot point out good providers across the world. Certainly not from personal experience. Try cinelicious from the advertisers list on the right... Neither cheap but when that is not a requirement :) Convincing enough / S8 page cinelicious I find $50 teleciné on a film of $10 and processing at $10 rather expensive. Certainly when you check on their (lack of) quality reputation as stated every where by many. But then, I am not in Hollywood or USA :)
  16. I have no experience with their transfer but near $50 per film is terribly expensive. It is only 3:20 minutes/ 4000 frames on a roll!
  17. The $ in Camera$ (ebay ID) is there for a reason :) It is on discount now. $500 off... These camera$ are always at the extreme point with their prices. Hoping for a desperate seeker (not you) or somebody who is too lazy to do some research before buying. And even at these prices these type of cameras are never fully tested or overhauled. They wouldn't recognize a super-8 cartridge.
  18. I don't have a server. I browse with a client and don't do proxy or something. It comes from their host. I don't need a camera as I already have a number. So good luck with it. I hope it isn't the guy who tells people to use some petrol on their camera as I read somewhere else and who thinks scratches go with cameras as a show of character.

  20. Sorry to bother but try your own link... It produces: And I have seen that a number of times. And for some odd reason they prefer not to be cached by google. We'll have to wait for another day. Or until they are back from the holidays :)
  21. Usually when people refer to http://super8arena.com/ the site is down. Is this on and off? A travel camera with all on board. Really NIZO at its top of quality. Also designed to be maintenance free. So if you don't drop it or leave it in the rain all should be good. Comparing to a stock keeping brick and mortar shop in NYC is a bit off. They supply service and garantee, need to pay actual people working there and not to forget the rent/property. I estimate the working and scratch free 481 should fetch $150-$200. I would sell mine at 200 :)
  22. Good luck, if you send film for processing you should ask the empty cartrdiges back with the film. That way you can start building your stock of cartridges. You could also consider having them processed through www.super8.nl in Netherlands.
  23. BTW You could collect a number of used Single-8 cartridges (from Retro8, super-8.nl who else) and fill these with 12meter of film yourself. Long rolls plenty available from Wittner. Then have these processed at this italian Rome lab... Or Wittner/ANdec. That should reduce the risk (and costs per minute). You could even take out the film yourself and send it in on reels in bags.
  24. Or don't use the Postal service for valueable stuff... Use UPS or something like them. It will be more expensive but if you have several films in a box it may be not too costly. Last december I shipped 10 kodachromes through UPS per piece alsmost the same as a single film in the post. :)
