Negative Fill solutions.
JB Earl replied to Alexander Sutton Hough's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
the photoflex frames are useful and inexpensive. If you need something that can grip in different orientations you can make something like a Scrim Jim http://eztube.com/product/2-way-snap-lock-system-connector/ and get a flip flop ear or cardellini. Advantage Grip and Matthews have removeable 4x4 rags, or make a 39x39" frame to fit Photoflex rags.- 3 replies

break down of a scene and lighting equipment
JB Earl replied to Baris Yilmaz Gunduz's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
6x6 or 8x8 frame with heavy diffusion to camera left. Evenly illuminated LARGE white background may provide those edge lights, but otherwise 1 softbox each side of the models upstage, and softbox overhead.- 2 replies

How old is it? Some of the Gitzos have a replaceable base that can be replaced with a bowl. (called the systematic bowl adapter) Otherwise get a Manfrotto 438 leveling base and fit a flat base head to it (the half ball is removeable from many Manfrotto heads ). What weight camera rig?

Does anyone know what size caps will fit the Angenieux 17.5-70. Also any good source if they're oddballs?

I've done a fair amount of food photography over the years. The general rule is that whatever you're advertising has to be the actual product. If it's ancillary, or a prop, it can be fake. The milk in a cereal bowl is often white glue, because it's only the cereal being advertised. Burgers require tedious placement of all the ingredients, in the amounts that you will actually be served. Stromboli is much more difficult! Vegetable oil or glycerin is used to add sheen, or sometimes heating with a hair dryer or heat gun helps. Justin is right about the style changing. Traditionally the perfect placement of everything was the look, but you'll see more of the slightly imperfect setups , such as crumbs or imperfect buns, or burger stacked akilter.

I bought a Vivtar C/Nikon adapter but it is too wide to seat properly. I have a Canon adapter that fits fine, but my lenses are all Nikon mount. Can anyone give me a specific brand recommendation that definitely fits?

I doubt he's lying. I'm surmising here: If he is rehousing perhaps he is recessing the lens elements deeply inside the PL mount ( if they are small enough in diameter) I imagine it would be an expensive proposition. Any optical experts here that can weigh in?
-
I think Switars are all C mount, so there would be no way to use them on PL mount as the flange distance is too short. They would fit directly on the ACL though. You could try a large diameter focus gear to help with focus pulls. I too would like to see how they perform wide open or around T2

Howabout Rokinon/Samyang lenses in Nikon mount? You can get 10mm, 16mm, 24mm etc , manual aperture, inexpensive, and will certainly cover Super 16. But Mitch is right, a proper cine zoom will be better for a lot of reasons

A Very Secret Service on Netflix is looking very interesting. Dry humor and nicely photographed. -
I've had some that's a hexagon weave, but I don't know how widely available it is. You can also get it in grey or white which may be useful occasionally.

Vario Sonnar 10-100 VS Angie 9.5-57 ? help
JB Earl replied to JB Earl's topic in Lenses & Lens Accessories
I have the 10-100 T3, but mainly need faster choices for my NPR. I could also use a C adapter and a couple of Rokinons or Nikkors, but I'm afraid the c mount will be too weak for them. I don't know if they'd perform any better than the T2 Sonnar anyway (maybe breathe less) -
Vario Sonnar 10-100 VS Angie 9.5-57 ? help
JB Earl replied to JB Earl's topic in Lenses & Lens Accessories
Thanks very much for the detailed information. Do you have any thoughts on their performance wide open? -
I'm looking for opinions on the performance of the Zeiss Vario Sonnar 10-100 T2 and the Angenieux 9.5-57. Especially interested in how they perform wide open. Compared to the Sonnar T3, do they breathe as badly?

I have a bolex H16 Battery (black plastic case with XLR) that I need to open and recell. There are 4 bolt heads recessed on each side, but there is no way to get onto them. Any advice on opening it up?

The quote, hmmm. I think he means that lighting can be too formulaic, too expected. Maybe that's what he means by the KinoFlo being too perfect, looks just like a window, can end up fill everywhere and be dull. Hopefully one of the lighting masters will chime in here. David Mullen?

The HMI will simulate moonlight. It will appear blueish with camera set to white balance at 4200K color temperature. The kino flo will fill in the foreground and be gelled to a different color, to simulate a foreground light such as a table lamp or streetlight. The exact placement of the lights will be determined by what ratios and mood you like.
