  1. It's enough to ... 'get the job done' ... and it's cool in that it doesn't have a receiver type module - it's built in to the motor. However, would never take it on a job that requires any type of reliability. Of course the Preston FIZ in the division champion but I absolutely love the RT Motion set up.
  2. Sign me up man, I'm willing to give anything affordable a shot. I'll hit that indiegogo thing next pay day. 200 GBP works out to be 320 Aus dollars which is a small enough amount to have a punt on it. Questions tho: If it stops working, is there anything in the way of returns or service?
  3. I use the Cartoni Focus HD ... With an SR2, with the battery + loaded mag, canon 8-64 zoom and a few other bits and pieces it actually handles it quiet well once you balance it and then set the counter balance. However, it really probably is pushing the limits. Also, there's a lot of plastic on it so i feel like it won't take much of a beating.
  4. This has been a most entertaining thread. I hope I get to see the film some day. I grew up with tacky BBC comedy / sci fi so I'd definitely give it a run.
  5. I have an EBM that runs on external power ... it looks like they modified the base of it to include a solenoid or something for the on/off switch and it has a barrel jack, maybe 6mm. Works great.
  6. Not at all. I haven't even seen a 50mm. I think for 16mm it was only 9.5mm to 25mm.
  7. I only really own S16 Lenses. Zeiss Super speed 16mm + 25mm (still haven't got around to getting a PL mount for the 25mm though) Optar Illumina 50mm Canon 8-64 zoom And really ... I think these lenses are totally cool and work perfect with the BMPCC. I'm already sad for the day I want a camera with a bigger sensor.
  8. Wow, I really don't own much at all! I have a BMPCC and a Bolex EBM. Grand total spent on camera gear thus far is probably less than $2000. But I'm happy with both and they're both great tools for learning basics.
  9. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arri-Arriflex-Alexa-handgrip-35mm-Rosette-long-RS-3pin-/252665399363?hash=item3ad4080843:g:baIAAOSwNRdX8DMk maybe that one?
  10. Crazy amount of good feedback here. Thanks guys. Really looking into the WCU more, considering hiring one out and spending a day on a personal project with it as it sounds intriguing.
  11. Hi, I watched a kinda slow burner movie the other day called "Low Tide" and while it was watchable but not amazing, I really did like the 'look' and it suited the vibe of the film to a tee. Has anyone got any back ground info on the camera / format used for this film or can take a punt? In my head it might be super-16 but Im really not sure. Here's a sample -
  12. Couldn't figure out how to keep the wind out of the microphone though ...
  13. Hello! So I own a few of these lenses, but the 25mm lens didn't come with a PL mount adaptor, the focus gear or 80mm lens front. I was wondering if anyone knew the easiest way to acquire all of these items? I checked out Duclos lenses, and the adaptor alone was over $600. I understand you get what you pay for but is there an cheaper way to do this to a good standard? Appreciate any advice you guys have. Thanks!
  14. Like, this one's probably sold but for the price, etc .... would this be considered a good package for the price? http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=25053
  15. Thanks for your feedback everyone! I'm honestly thinking it's either between a 2-channel digital bartech or a RT motion 3.1. I can't imagine that in the next 3 -4 years I'll ever be working on a big feature or anything, so as long as the bar tech has good repeatability and reliability then I think i'll be fine.
  16. I dunno, if someone made a simple to use 16mm (super 16) that had easy to load daylight spools, inbuilt light / exposure meter etc I can't see any reason it wouldn't sell. Sure, I don't know about the financial viability but there would definitely be interest.
  17. Someone told me Mcleods Daughters was the last Aussie series to be shot on film? It's funny, when I was a kid growing up I watched a little bit of drama TV and always equated the US series 'The OC' to be the US equivalent of Australias 'Neighbours' (which is pretty wrong but whatever) but I always thought 'Why does the OC look like a movie and Neighbours look like it's a video?' .... well 15 years later I learn about film and digital etc and it all makes sense (and the other production elements that make each show visually what it is). I guess viewers in general thought wouldn't have picked a real difference. I'm filming a short film on S16 next year before I leave Aus ... hopefully I can pull it off. My magnum opus if you will.
  18. No sound on tape, just the sound from the portable digital recorder. Thanks for the advice everybody. When the test footage comes back I'll let every scrutinise it haha.
  19. I'm gearing up to film my first short (15 mins) on 16mm and am going to shoot some tests to make sure the camera / locations / lighting etc all work well. So I figure this is also a great time to test the sound aspect too. However, I've never recorded sound for use in film, only digital where it basically syncs itself in post production. I always have a 2nd AC for slating so that makes it easy. I'm going to use a Zoom H6 / Rode NTG for these tests and need to know if there's any particular settings I should have things set to? Anything I need to look for? I probably won't hire a sound guy for the tests as it's more about checking everything syncs well than the actual quality. Frame rates / data rates etc?
  20. Oh, I whole heartedly agree. But for arguments sake ..... what unit is the runner up?
  21. Hiya - long story short, I've been working with conventional follow focus units for a little while, mostly using the whip and crank and I'm thinking about investing in a wireless control unit. I learnt to pull focus on an instructors Preston FIZ3 so obviously that set a pretty high bench mark. I've been looking at units for a while now ... the Redrock Micro, DJI, some second hand Bartechs etc but they seem cheap and plastic or a little bit old and battered. One affordable but seemingly higher-end option I've come across is this - the RT Motion 3.1. http://www.rtmotion.com/lens-control-system I can't find too much feedback about them online. Has anyone heard much about them? Is there any other good options worth checking out? Basically I want to buy a good, reliable and well engineered unit that won't outdate too quickly. I want to move to wireless to try and connect with the stabiliser / drone operators (obviously can't really do that twisting a whip). I think the RT will suit my purposes. Any thoughts?
