  1. The Sachtler FSB 8 with Flowtech legs or Miller AIR Carbon series might be good options too
  2. Hey there's a Bolex REX 1 on craigslist listed for $750 right now. It's in Somerville. https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/pho/d/somerville-bolex-h16-reflex-rex-1-set/7136623953.html
  3. I absolutely loved this film. Helene Louvart is one of the best working cinematographers imo. I highly recommend her earlier collaboration with Alice Rohrwacher "The Wonders," which was also shot on 16mm.
  4. Ran into this question on a shoot recently. I needed a very long option for a single shot and we were using Kowas which max out at 100mm. I played it safe and went with a spherical lens (a beefy Nikkor 300mm PL) instead. With such a long lens the anamorphic effect is much subtler so it cut in fine. Everyone I talked to said that 2x adapters wouldn't work but no one could tell me why— thanks for sharing that old thread Daniel!
  5. I've asked the seller (I haven't bought the ACL II yet) to send me more pics of the mount but this the best photo I have at the moment, sorry it's such low quality. He's under the impression that the mount was permanently modified by Lee Bosher in the UK, but isn't 100% sure. Can you tell from this photo if it's a permanent mount or a removable mount screwed onto the original TS mount?
  6. Sorry for not being clearer-- I believe the ACL's original mount has been replaced with a permanent aaton mount.
  7. Exporting from Resolve as ProRes 422 or 422 HQ .mov files should work well for your needs. If you're curious to learn what the bitrate difference are between various ProRes flavors, page 25 of this pdf might be of interest.
  8. The footage you capture from your camera is already relatively low bitrate so transcoding it to a codec with a much higher bitrate obviously won't make up for that or increase image quality. ProRes HQ 422 4K @ 24fps has a bitrate of ~750 Mb/s and your GH7 maxes out at 100 Mb/s, I think. If you're simply uploading the clips straight off the memory card, then their original h264 format probably makes the most sense. But if you are trimming or otherwise editing the clips you should export them in a lossless codec like Pro Res HQ (as Tyler mentioned above). The only downside with Pro Res is that you'll end up with much larger file sizes relative to the quality of the source footage, if that is a concern. There are also ways to encode h264 with near-lossless quality and larger file sizes. As far as selling your footage on stock sites goes, advertising as Pro Res HQ will probably get you more clicks from people who might think that the source footage's bitrate is higher than 100 Mb/s.
  9. Could someone suggest some cheap but solid prime lenses that come in Aaton mount? I'm looking at switching from a c-mount system and realized that you can't adapt c-mount lenses to aaton mount. Looking for wider (10-25mm) prime lenses. Is there anything comparable to Switar 10mm or 16mm lenses? So far I've only seen some somewhat expensive zoom lenses. If it makes any difference this is for use on an Eclair ACL II. Cheers!
  10. Thanks Gregg and Daniel! This is super helpful info. Modifying a 3A adapter for XLR seems like decent option if I don't want to risk pumping 15 volts into a 40 year old camera, although that does sounds exciting. I don't foresee needing to dial up to 75fps so 3 amps should suffice.
  11. I have a bunch of Core SWX Hypercore 98kwh v-mounts that I use with my RED kit. I've used them with Astra lightpanels too. They've worked well for me although some of them are about 4 years old and have definitely lost a considerable amount of capacity. I've heard great things about Dynacore's newer v-mounts which are a bit a cheaper, especially if you're looking for greater runtimes (155kwh or 220kwh). I'm not sure what's cheapest in Armenia but I imagine both companies would ship to you. If you plan on flying with the batteries I'd recommend 98kwh or smaller batteries, that's at least the case in the US.
  12. Thanks for confirming that... that's what I figured. Too bad I can't put all my v-mounts from my digital kit to use. I'd bet there's some place that would make a p-tap to xlr 12v regulated cable (something like this but xlr).
  13. Dumb question here folks... are "RX" lenses suggested for Bolex SB and EBM cameras? I'm assuming they are because they also have a reflex viewfinder system, but just wanted to check since they're not labeled "REX" cameras.
  14. Also, curious about this... can you run an ACL II off a standard (~15.2V) V-mount battery with just a p-tap to xlr adapter? Is there any risk if you power an ACL with more than 12 volts?
  15. I recently used a Sekonic L-308X-U light meter above 8500ft in Ethiopia. Exposed and metered normally and didn't have any issues. I'm sure there's some technical reason they give that warning but this was my experience. I would definitely recommend using a UV filter if you're shooting at high altitudes.
  16. I'm also interested in a Bolex SB/M!
  17. Ida, Gueros, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Embrace of the Serpent, The White Ribbon, The Turin Horse. Loved 'Bait' too.
  18. I'm interest in picking up an Eclair ACL in good working condition. If you have one please shoot me a PM. Thanks!
  19. I'm looking to buy a Bolex REX-5 16mm Camera in good working condition. Extra points if it's been converted to Super 16. Please shoot me a PM if you've got one. Cheers!
