  1. I broke down and got an HDTV.. a 32 in. philips LCD.. I love it.. bunny ears can be annoying at times, but I normally have no problem in primetime and can watch CBS, ABC, CW and PBS... I love how LCD provides very crisp color rendition.. what I dont like is the compression that can make a crappy image even over the air.. the 1080i signal from CBS will cause a lot of pixilation when there's a lot of motion, aparently due to the cmpression and some de-interlation/downconverting issues.. and sitting close to the television reveals a bit of a monet effect. Regardless, still shots look awesome. HDTV makes me want to have the TV on a lot more than before, just because it look so dang good from my desk. I do agree however that it accentuates the use of portrait diffusion to the point that it looks silly.. I the scan lines of the old 480i sets hid a lot more than we ever knew
  2. How should us non unionized nickle and dimers trying to make a festival film handle the strike? Do we wait until the strike ends or does it matter? I'm not too keen on how the whole union process comes in to play with people just starting out.
  3. Oh yeah thats' right - it's a step down ring.. The screw at the bottom *should* be for a rod support; it is for mine anyway. It slides in and the screw tightens it. Maybe I can shoot a photo of it for you. It would be far better to pay the money for a replacement than trying to center a rigged rod support for your lens!
  4. are you sure that is a clamp? It looks like some sort of rim to me.. clamp should have a screw mechanism for securing it on the lense barrel.. I don't think chrosziel has clamps for 102mm with 4x4.. I had to drill and hack mine to put a clamp on that was a little larger than 105mm.. it works like a charm btw :D
  5. i have a 9mm.. it is very nice.. sharp and super fast.. there's a very slight vignette on super16 but you can crop and scale the frame.. it's like t1.3... super duper fast! PS somebody's selling a set of 4 on feebay at the moment
  6. are you talking graduate studies film school or undergrad? If you finished graduate studies, then I would expect you to have an idea of what to do. If its undergrad, well you will have to move to an area that have studios or sizeable media markets.. basically LA, NY, Vancouver, Wilmington and probably a few others that I dont know about
  7. AZ spectrum services Eclair Motors I believe
  8. 50D weighs about 5 pounds and is made of aluminum and maybe magnesium and whatnot
  9. i set tabs with microsoft word for my 2 scripts in college.. it did a pretty good job. Some people will say that you need to have script in a precisely formated fashion.. I think that's a bit silly.
  10. Don't take my word but to my recollection of media law class if you hvae no control of the sound or image that is in the frame, then you are not in any way liable. If trademarks are incidental and not the intended focus of the shot, then you are not liable..
  11. i would not recommend buying something like that from overseas.. you will have to pay about a 10% for duty and state tax.. On top of that they might not accept paypal so you'ld have to do a risky wire transfer
  12. This is sad news and a great loss.. I hope somebody will be able to continue everything he did for photochemical filmmaking because we need it
  13. It looked bleach bipassed bigtime... dont know if it was done photochemically or in DI however
  14. I thought it was excellent... Yeah the event horizon arc wasn't the best idea but this movie is more a journy than a story
  15. Just to let you know, you can get a bogen 3141 100mm bowl leveler for the mitchell mount. It costs about 50 bucks on amazon. The 50D head weighs about 8 or so pounds..
  16. if you want to be a trailblazer you could get les bosher to create an Aaton -> m42 adapter for you.. theres some wide angle lenses in that mount
  17. looks good... what focal length did you shoot at? the image was pretty shaky
  18. I know that Opto Electro house services the motor.. probably best to send it there
  19. I have an eye on this lens and your adapter <_<
  20. The opening scene with the couple was a bit surreal to me. The composition gave the characters a very strange rendition as if it were live television but on film
  21. I remember those krunk videos in the 90s that had the most intense colors ive ever seen. It seemed like they used some narrow shutter angles but I guess the rest might've been some kind of color saturation in post
  22. WOW that is amazing!
  23. have you considered getting a clear filter and just putting stuff on it?
  24. if you are brave and can get it apart theres a polymer cleaning solution named first contact AKA opticlean in the UK that you can put on surfaces that goes from liquid to a solid substrate that comes off like saran wrap.. http://www.photoniccleaning.com/ if you contact the site the guy can give you a smaller amount than what is listed for about 30 bucks if i remember. You probably better talk to a lens tech about taking the lens apart though as the elements obviously need precise spacing and most of the elements are going to be suspended by cement or gasket
