  1. Posted Today, 05:48 PM Hello everyone, I am very fascinated by the anamorphic lenses and the effect obtained with them. Looking on the internet for a lens that would not cost too much I found a person who sells an anamorphic projection lens. The lens is an Optical Iper16 2x Anamorphic, I do not know if any of you own it or know it. I would like to use the lens with a Canon 518 AutoZoom and I wanted to ask you: Is it possible to use this lens with my Canon 518? What kind of adapters should I take to fix the anamorphic lens on the camera lens? This is the link forse the Image of the lens: https://www.google.com/search?q=optical+anamorphic+iper+16&client=ms-android-xiaomi-rev1&tbm=isch&prmd=sinv&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiY4cG06e3fAhVC3RoKHX4mBr0Q_AUIECgC#imgrc=b-12YfnxFQr0dM&imgdii=q-i_a1AxHWdY1M
  2. Hi everyone, I have a question thats been asked before, but I havent yet found the exact answer. Or lets say I'm not really entirely clear on what the best path is. So, we are going to shoot on ARRI MINI in anamorphic. Some ARRIRAW, some proress for higher frame rate, OpenGate. I plan to shoot OG 4:3 sensor mode. The client wants to take multiple formats from the shoot (car commercial) i.e 2.39:1 for main film, 16:9 extraction for web, and 1:1 for Instagram. We need to convince the client that its totally OK to shoot anamorphic and just extract the 16:9 from the footage. And this is where I am not sure... a) Is it even possible to have a 2K 16:9 image from a desqueezed anamorphic source? b) Is it better to take the 16:9 extraction from the UNSQUEEZED 4:3 and then desqueeze after, and if so c) how can one do that? What is the correct workflow. I assume its better to take the extraction before the footage is desqueezed to keep the max amount of pixels, right???? Any advice will be hugely appreciated!!! All the best to you all, Neel Potgieter dop Paris France

  6. Some people call it scope lens bracket but it is also known as scope lens holder. Originally this is made by Elmo for Elmo 16 CL and Kodak CT1000 projectors. But someone in UK can modify it to be used for other projectors too. This is a new old stock (NOS) item. The bracket/holder will fit to the lens with 52mm rear barrel diameters such as Elmoscope I, Elmoscope II, Sankor 16D, etc. It is made of steel not nylon which is the current bracket made with the 3D machine. So it is very sturdy. This is a rare item in new condition. I live in New Caledonia, and currently have 4 brackets/holder for sale. Shipping will be done from New Caledonia. It is less than 100 grams, so it won't be expensive. I have one bracket already in the UK now and it is also for sell. So if a member from Europe wants to buy, it will be sent from the UK and shipping is free. Price: £68 or €78 (free shipping to Europe and there will be no tax and duty for the EU members) Email me: winbert (at) hotmail (dot) com Payment via paypal or Western Union/Money Gram. You can see from the below pictures that the benefit of this bracket, i.e it can be swung out when you don't need it, while the lens is still on the bracket. This means the interchange projection between flat and scope print can be done as soon as you want it without need to re-calibrate it (refocus). Something cannot be done if you are using a permanent bracket (need to be screwed onto projector's body) or a universal (stand alone) lens holder. Today, a 3D lens holder (made of nylon) is €56 + €29 (adapter) = €85. A non-3D lens holder from Wittner is even more expensive, i.e € 149. For a universal/general scope lens holder is €110. So my price for an original scope lens bracket / holder, £68 or €78 is quite cheap. Numbers are limited, so first come, first served . cheers, Winbert Easy to use, no hassle interchange between scope and flat presentation

  13. Hi, I’m new to this forum and I have a question that I hope that someone with a knowledge of Todd AO anamorphics might be able to give me some clues about. I have a Todd AO 35 front element that I bought on Ebay some time ago. I’m trying to find out which focal length this element should have (as in, the focal length on the taking lens). And also, whether this is the early or later version of the Todd AO’s. I was thinking that if I can figure out which taking lens to use, I could get an old Canon K35 lens and have the whole thing built into a fully functioning anamorphic lens by Kim Camera or the like. So, I’m reaching out to anyone who might have a clue as to which lens size this element would fit with. The front is 122mm and the rear is 48mm. I would be grateful for any clues, and any pointers before I embark on this project!
  14. Greetings all! I am ecstatic about beginning shooting on Super 8 film. I have been doing 35mm still photography for a little less than a year. I love analog. Super 8 seems like it is going to be a great format for me. I am acquiring a Nizo 148 xl, which has a fixed schneider-kreuznach variogon 8-48mm;1.8 lens. Technical projects I want to work on: Getting an anamorphic rig to work and processing negatives via C-41 protocols and processing reversal film (tri-x). I have already found a great thread about processing tri-x and color negatives should be easy enough. I have seen many threads about shooting anamorphic with Super 8 on this forum, which has been very helpful. Here's what I am worried about: getting the anamorphic lens adapted to the fixed zoom lens on my Nizo. I believe the filter thread diameter on the zoom lens is 49mm. Kowa anamorphics Seem to be good for these small lenses used on Super 8 cameras.I was thinking of getting a Kowa 16-A, which has an outer diameter of about 39mm. They seem to be afordable for me on ebay. The 16H is apparently better, although I am not sure why. I have also thought of getting an SLR Magic, which would need to be stepped down, as the outer diameter is 52mm. Any thoughts, suggestions? What are some recommendations for getting this kowa to work with my Nizo? Good ways to provide support for the lens once fixed to the camera? How should I be calculating aspect ratio and optimum focal lengths to set the zoom lens at? I have seen recomendations, but I'm not sure how these values were deduced. Thanks is advance! This is going to be fun
  15. I am trying to find if any major tv series were broadcast in scope aspect ratio? I know some shows such as The Walking Dead and True Detective s02 were shot anamorphic with a 16:9 extraction, but looking on line I was not able to find any series broadcast in scope except a british show called Broadchurch which apparently was shot anamorphic for 2:1 screening. Also the great doco Wild Wild Country was shot scope (seems anamorphic). Any other thoughts?

  20. Hi guys, I just bought a GH5 (M43) and I'd like to invest in anamorphic vintage lens. My budget is $2000. I'm looking for character. I'll appreciatte any kind of suggestion.
  21. Hi All, I'm shooting a live music session with a number of cameras in the next couple of weeks, and initially had Alexa Mini's pencilled, along with some rehoused Kowa anamorphic lenses. I've just found out that the rental house I'm dealing with can offer me RED Dragon 6K's as an option instead. I've loved all of the tests I've done with this camera, and really like the size of the sensor (being close to FF). Unfortunately, I've only tested sets of spherical lenses with it so far, and so I'm not sure if the Kowa's that I've got pencilled will cover the Dragon's sensor area. I know you can crop and shoot in a lower resolution, but if possible I'd prefer to make the most of the height of the sensor. Final delivery of the sessions is likely to be HD, and I know you can shoot desqueezed proxies in 2K ProRes, but I'd prefer to work with the RAW for the sake of the grade. If anyone has any experience with this combination, that would be really helpful. 24. Hi Everyone, I'm thinking of buying a Kowa 16H lens for my Bolex H16 REX5 in the aim of making cinemascope. If I have fully understand this lens is adaptable directly on my proper lens, like for example a switar, with a clamp. I guess that I can find several models of clamps in fonction of the diametre of the lenses I want to use. The thing is that I want after that to be able to project my film with an Eiki NT2, and I wonder if I could use the same lens, as it is apparently made for both, camera and projector. How can I adapt the Kowa on the projector? With an other clamp? Here are I am with my supposition...
