  2. Bittersweet perversity In immumerous Hollywood films from the earliest days to now, the “spark and fire” of love (Hamlet, 4.7.129) often leads to climactic happiness and an uplifting end-credit track. One of the fine users of Quora explains for us : “You are simply attracted to a person or you’re not.” As Juliet explains, true love is out of one’s control : My only love sprung from my only hate, Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love is it to me That I must love a loathéd enemy. (1.3.152-5) * WARNING : In the skewed world of Shakespearean-era revenge tragedies, uncontrollable love—simple attraction, the prodigious birth of what the heart says—often ends in disaster. * The White Devil Vittoria. I do protest, if any chaste denial, If anything but blood could have allay’d His long suit to me— (1.2.284–6) Vittoria explains to her mother that her forbidden love for the Duke is out of her reasonable control, and only her death could have stopped her attraction; thus her infidelity is justified by the immutable laws of Mother Nature. Alas, Vittoria’s attraction leads to her ultimate end—a sword runs through her. With her last breath, she reflects : Vittoria. Oh, my greatest sin lay in my blood! Now my blood pays for ’t. (5.6.240–1) Unfortunately, this being The White Devil, her death gets worse for her—Vittoria expires in a hell of psychological torture : Vittoria. My soul, like to a ship in a black storm, Is driven, I know not whither. (5.6.248–9) * The Revenger’s Tragedy The devil-may-care character of Junior Brother ravishes a married woman in an especially vile and violent manner, but his explanation of why he did the deed is remarkably untroubled and relaxed—the young man simply tells the simple truth as he sees it : Second Judge. What mov’d you to’t? Junior. Why, flesh and blood, my lord. What should move men unto a woman else? (1.2.47–8) Junior’s last words before facing capital punishment are perversely mock-heroic— My fault was sweet sport, which the world approves; I die for that which every woman loves. (3.4.81–2) * In Shakespearean-era revenge tragedies, beware of love. Nature leads to disaster.

  7. Could be well working solution if it can supply the needed amps reliably. LiPo batteries usually lack the outer protective shell and they can be really nasty if damaged so it would be good to arrange some kind of protective box for it (plastic project box or something 3d printed for example) to protect it. probably velcro should work fine for mounting but as said I would not use plain LiPo battery, better to have a protective box as they can catch fire and even explode if they are punctured or deformed too much causing internal short circuits which heat them to breaking point. They are meant to be installed inside devices where the outer casing of the device protects them, or in case of drones and RC stuff they don't have casing to reduce weight but then people just need to accept the risk that they get easily damaged with potentially catastrophic consequences. I don't have Bolex motors to test out anything as my Bolex is too old model to use motors. if making motor modifications I would need to purchase a newer Bolex model with motor mounting points to test out the designs, that is why there is minimum order amounts in place as purchasing a camera body and couple of original motors just for tests costs quite much

  9. When you do your tests, always go the distance...from the alpha to the omega. I tried a few other times with this test, but didn't post them. I found 1 second is too long and .05 seconds is too short. It looks like .20 or .30 of a second per frame is the sweet spot.
  10. Correct me if I am wrong, but he way I understand Fuji film stock is that the 6 in 8651 refers to 16mm. It should be 16mm film unless the OP had a typo.
  11. I've use the emotimo system before which works directly with Dana Dolly products. Worked well, though it is a bit "prosumer" feeling and can just barley handle a striped down alexa mini. I know Kessler has a similar product too now.
  12. The Bell & Howell 200 cameras use standard C-mount lenses, HOWEVER, they also require a matching viewfinder lens. I've used a single 25mm viewfinder lens as a guide for a variety of C-mount lenses (12-75mm) and this works to some extent. I've also had some problems with the interlock mechanism of the B&H jamming - I've had better reliability from a Kodak magazine camera that doesn't take C-mount lenses (but that camera has a zoom viewfinder for all lenses 15-152mm). The Kodak (B&H) magazines were designed for double-perf film and others have reported poor results trying to use single-perf film, HOWEVER, the Kodak camera appears to give a full, clean image between the sprocket holes on the left, making a 2:1 aspect ratio crop possible. The Film Photography Project (April 2024) sells 16mm mags in 7 different stocks, and a mag costs $80-$100 including processing and scanning by FPP. This is great news for people who want to use these cameras, but, FPP's processing service is unbearably slow... about six weeks... and the quality is not great. The B&W reversal, in particular, was mottled and quite dirty. However, some people feel this adds to the vintage look! Here's a look at my first two mags from FPP - B&W reversal and Ektachrome. My 2:1 attempt will be developed sometime mid-May. --Gary
  13. Two 100 ft. units of Kodak VISION3 500T, 7219, were returned to Kodak in Rochester by UPS in mid-March. Apparently, these became unhinged with their shipping information and UPS returned them to us hoping that we could assist in finding their rightful owner. We reached out through the Kodak Labs and our group of Sales Representatives but have not heard of any student or productions that were reporting film that was lost. Since that time, our Rochester manufacturing processing lab has processed the two rolls and we have confirmed that both do contain images, but that there are no slates on the rolls which would assist in tieing to a production / user. We would like to have these returned if their use is needed for this semester or any other work. Based on the emulsion, this film was lost in UPS sometime in February or early March. If you lost any film through UPS, please reply or send me a message here. If you know of another student or cinematographer who lost their film, please have them contact EIAMERICAS@Kodak.com and we can work to return the film to its rightful owner. Thank you Frederick Knauf, Eastman Kodak Co.
  14. Reviving the thread, can any French person here affirm or deny whether the use of the term hypergonar is a matter of that word being a catch all term for anamorphics there or if not which could mean that the core of the attachment is indeed the 35mm hypergonar lens?
  15. £8000. That's US $ 10000. (plus shipping) VAT to be added for UK buyers only.
  16. Hey @Jack McGovern, thanks for your interest! I actually just yesterday sold the 50mm and 75mm. I had a lot of people reach out but everyone except this buyer had wanted just one focal length. I do have an Arri Standard to PL mount adapter for anyone wanting to try a lens out on their PL mount camera, but I'd rather not sell that adapter at this time. I still have the 32mm and 100mm available for sale in case you or anyone else is interested. If someone wants them both and this month, I'd do $5,000 ($2,500 each) for anyone paying cash in NYC or LA (I'll be in LA for a week later this month).
  17. The Oppenheimer (2023) phenomenon Narrative art shows us human behaviour in action. Audiences have witnessed beastly activity onscreen for over one hundred years—and have enjoyed fabricated stories of earthly depravity for millennia—yet collective society hasn’t turned one whit better for all the stories that have ever been told. Evidence : the year 2024. * * * Cinema audiences see human beings acting as horrible as themselves for about two hours or so, yet subsequently fail to change their behaviour for the better. Example : Blackett. Christ, Oppenheimer. Have you had any sleep? (4:02) The professor is in a position of authority. Shouldn’t he comport himself as an exemplar of a gentleman, since his students, consciously or unconsciously, absorb his poise as guides for their own moral and ethical positions? Blackett reveals himself as an imbecilic bully. Relatable? And since arrogance unsees one’s own weakness, he’s ripe pickings for picking off. * Yes, audiences witness human beings acting as horrible as themselves for about two hours or so, then leave the cinema and continue to act horrible to one another. But as RDJ rightly said : “What we do matters.” Why? Because of the rare individual who makes it matter. To his monstrous exploits Caligula added atrocious speech. “In my nature I praise and approve nothing so much,” he said, “as my shamelessness.” When his grandmother Antonia cautioned him on his behaviour, he couldn’t help but respond : “I can do anything I want to anybody.”
  18. Don't suppose you still have any left? Cheers, Alex
  19. I'm after something on that order, something that can replace a rideable dolly in at least some circumstances. I guess it doesn't make that much difference, really. Ten or twelve inches was my inclination. Saw a rather nice one at NAB with the motor drive system.
  20. Used it for two jobs only like new !!! 25000GBP attila@filmgears.co.uk
  21. If you are monitoring the log signal, this is the expected behaviour in Cine EI mode. Apply any LUT and you will see the changes.
  22. Just to confirm, you are changing the base ISO. Jump between 4000 and 800 for a test.
  23. London prices in 1981 were about £0.25/ft for an A/B roll answer print. The contemporary exchange rate makes that about 60cents. Grading wasn't charged separately but there was quite a high minimum charge IIRC, so the fee was obviously built in. Maybe quoting a low footage rate made a lab appear more competitive.
  24. @Aapo Lettinen Do you know a way to power the MST motor without it being too clunky ? I think it's the same story with the EBM. Here's what I saw when searching : Using the Bolex power handle - But I cannot find a recelled battery online. Using V-mount 12v regulated plate - But putting it on the back will prevent using the viewfinder and make it unusable Using a 12v "battery belt" like a Bescor - I don't really find that practical, for tripod shots ok maybe but this looks a bit oldschool for shooting handheld Maybe putting velcro on the door with a small battery ? Or something with the hot shoe mount...
