Manu Delpech
Thank god, the Coens implied that ILD was going to be their last movie shot on film, praise the lord !
Giray Izcan
I want to believe, but wonder where the information is coming from. I thought Roger Deakins was all for digital, and had no intentions to go back to shooting on film again.

Giray Izcan
Hmm... As a huge advocate for film acquisition, I am glad that he will shoot on film. Obviously, he is one of the cinematographers that i look up to, but prefer his older film work as opposed to his later digital work. Photography wise, I think they are all great, but holm film originated movies have much more depth and richness to them. It's just my personal opinion. I mean I was watching The Assassination of Jesse James today, my god, such a beautifully shot film with a lot of depth and dimensionality with phenomenal blacks as opposed to Skyfall, for example, looks more 2 dimensional to me. Again, I wish I was the tenth of what he is as a cinematographer...
Manu Delpech
You're totally right Giray. Skyfall & Prisoners look great, but kinda pale in comparison to some of his greatest work. Jesse James looks gorgeous, No Country For Old Men is a good one too.
Giray Izcan
Obviously, I don't intend to start another pointless digital vs film debate...

Stuart Brereton
When Deakins said he would probably never shoot film again, I think he meant it as an acknowledgement of the rise of digital acquisition, rather than as a personal choice. Albion Hockney
Just wanted to note that Deakins has said that the choice of film is because its a period film and the coens thought it would be best and he of course agreed
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted December 20, 2014 Premium Member Share Posted December 20, 2014 Of course, "Unbroken" is also a period film and he chose to use the Alexa for that one.
Albion Hockney
true ...that was a a much slicker film though then I would assume anything the coens would do.

Freya Black
Sorry how many features you shot on film? just wondering :) Okay theres far too much of this "Just wondering" crap happening on cine.com lately. What does this have to do with the thread exactly? The thread isn't about Giray so I don't see how it's appropriate at all to start asking the guy about his personal life experiences in the middle of the thread for no reason. You also quote from the thread... If you are suggesting the guy is not allowed to have any opinions or a discussion on the subject until he has a long line of feature credits under his arm then that seems really out of order and pointlessly hostile. Giray Izcan
As if the cinematography is just about shooting features... Commercials and music videos don't really count I suppose...
