  1. I think it has been discussed here! But Chris Doyle is very passionate about the craft of cinematography! Personally I think he completely missed the point of "Life of Pi" He also needs to think about less Chardonnay before an interview discussing his fellow cinematographers. But everyone is entitled to there opinion however vitriolic.
  2. Well done Richard! You are a proper inspiration! I guess you can't say which festival?
  3. Good find Phil! Did you talk prices? Not that I'll be investing in 2013:-)
  4. And this where we are right now where a colour grader who did his job feels he's entitled to a co- DP credit. This is democracy I'm afraid. We have marginalized the job of cinematography to a point where who does what and gets the credit for it are disputed! I recently shot a short film where the Director insisted on shooting B-camera along with 2 very inexperienced camera op's. I can see every shot in the film that wasn't mine. Democracy has It's negative points in our business I'm afraid.
  5. I think your lighting is more important than lenses when filming someone in there early 90's, people of that age tend to be beautiful anyway. Just show her the way she is with high key soft lighting.
  6. My first still camera was inside a "Man From Uncle" Toy atache case! Coolest thing ever, it used 35mm film and was operated by a button on top of the case. Maybe I should have been a spy! Might have earned a bit more:-) I later got a Nikkon FM and a Braun Super8.
  7. Stunning piece of work Stephen! And a great story, shame they couldn't strech it to feature length would certainly have Been worthy of it!
  8. "i bet you would cry out loud if in reality ur rear end would be bitten by roger deakins bulldog...." We should leave the posters anonymous I feel but anymore gems you can think of?
  9. Never really got the whole 3D thing poking things at the audience seems to be It's greatest achievement. Until I saw transformers 3 on a big screen that for me is where 3D cinema belongs. As a cameraman I would love to shoot something like that!
  10. Nice job James! Loved it! You can tell a story. Iffy cinematography was actually pretty good. But there's a storyteller here thats the important thing. Give me a buzz if you want help with the cinematography on your next project. Glad to help if the schedules line up.
  11. Really! Thats what you have to say on a site dedicated to cinematography? Oh well I guess It's time to stop posting I'm off to CML!
  12. Small LED work lights bought from hardware stores! I now have 4 of them. There battery powered and the ones I have cost 28 euros! Not Ideal by any means but with a bit of diffusion,CTO and Gaffer Tape you will be surprised.
  13. I've just wrapped a commercial for Philips which will be shown in cinemas before Skyfall! It's a Bond spoof that promotes there new line of Televisions. So I'll be able to see if Deakins cinematography lives up to mine:-) I'm not holding my breath.
  14. Thanks James! Just got the pro version, fantastic tool for directors and cinematographers this together with Light Source makes a great package.
  15. I've seen brackets for eng camera's that adjust so you can operate using your left eye but It's still mounted on your right shoulder I think.I don't think you can flip a sony EVF to the left side of the camera.
  16. I did it once after operating for 5 long days. It's really weird at first but your brain adjusts surprisingly quickly I found. Loved your ASC podcast BTW really great interview. Has the film had a European release?
  17. They went to Italy. Tuscany I would say but maybe not. Used some kind of gyro stabilized system with a remote head for the driving shots.(Russian Arm?)Or just a guy hanging out of the back of a pickup with a good driver and stabilized in post.Went to a dedicated studio also in Italy, and did what phil said. With a techno crane and stuff. That's how I think it was done but maybe I'm wrong.
  18. i don't know Bill I can't answer that question. The trailer of Lincoln looked fantastic but so does this one.
  19. That is a trailer that screams just how good film is! Except there are trailers with digital acquisition that look just as good. This is the dilemma we are facing I'm afraid.
  20. Best of luck Stephen I'm sure it will do well, the trailer looked stunning! When will the rest of us mortals get to see it?
