  1. I signed up for the updates through Abel Cine about the Amira. I received a call from Abel today and they will know the price next week and will take preorders next week as well. They said to expect the camera to ship in May.
  2. Has anyone used or own these new Litepanel lights? http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/860808-REG/Litepanels_903_5993_1x1_Traveler_Trio_Plus.html I was looking to purchase it for the reason being that a lot of the set's I work on are smaller interviews and the companies I work with usually rent out Kino's or an Arri kit, and I thought purchasing this kit would give me something to bring and rent out to the set, but also to own for personal projects. Do these lights seem like a good investment? Or are there other kits out there that are in high demand to rent out? Thanks! -Danny
  3. What everyone has said is a perfect start. Read an ASC magazine every month, and all the terms you don't understand, just google them and you'll find out what they mean. A recent book that has helped me enormously, especially with film stocks, is Cinematography for Directors. This was recommended in this forum for books for cinematographers, so I checked it out. It goes in depth about lenses, filters, lights, grip equipment... basically everything that a cinematographer should know. And one of the most important parts of this book are quotes from professional cinematographers, where they give you quotes and an insight on how important a collaboration between a cinematographer and a director is. I highly recommend this book.
  4. Thanks for the help! I'll have to do some research and figure out if it's worth getting the adapter, or just save up for another lens.
  5. I own a Canon 5D Mark II and I also own an older Canon film camera with 6 various Canon lenses. I was told that these were Canon FD mount lenses and that I can use them but that I need a different adapter which has glass in it which degrades the image quality, and that adapter needed would be a Canon FD to EOS mount. Is it worth buying the adapter or a ring for my 5D to attach these lenses, especially when one of the lens is a 70-210mm 1:4, and I'm trying to save money not buying expensive lenses as of now. Thanks in advance for your time and help. -Danny J.
  6. Wonderful reel. You sure know how to use flares! Beautiful, flowing song, with a great selection of footage. My personal favorite shot was the cemetery shot. Can't wait to see stuff you shot with the Alexa! Good job!
  7. Very well done sir! From the first shot, I was hooked with how beautiful it was. I loved the blue road and the shot where the main guy picks up his new guests towards the end, showing the plaza or hotel. Very beautiful. This definitely looked natural.
  8. Thanks for the link! I'm about to purchase my first grip belt and I'm liking this site.
  9. Billie Jean has always been my favorite video. I just love the editing and how everything lights up, and especially the end in bedroom. Smooth Criminal comes in a close second.
  10. I'm a huge Eisenstein fan. October and Alexander Nevsky have always been my favorite.
  11. Fanny & Alexander The Best Years of Our Lives Sunset Blvd. Pee Wee's Big Adventure Barry Lyndon
  12. I love his work with Alejandro González Iñárritu.
  13. I didn't want to start a new thread and thought my situation fit perfect in this existing thread. This weekend, I'm shooting my Intermediate Cinematography project at a church. I'll be using the HVX200 with 1 Arri 575 HMI Fresnel w/Ballast, KW2 LSL 255 Location light kit and the Arri D4 Softbank Lighting kit. I was curious to what filters to use and lens' to use, if I need to use them at all and how much light to use. I'm shooting this during the early morning/afternoon and the whole church is filled with stain glass windows, so this allows a good bit of light. Also, I can use the overhead lights and chandeliers. My one main shot I need help to light with is the Balcony shot overlooking all the seats and the priest giving his sermon. Here are a few pictures I took of the church. Thanks for reading.
  14. Thanks for all the info David... very much appreciated.
  15. Such a beautiful looking shot.
  16. That's an interesting video for sure. It's sad really.
  17. I agree with Hunter... the music store scene felt a little awkward to me with some of the shot selections, and breaking the 180 possibly? I love all the street shots used, especially with the flower guy. Great job.
  18. Nice job overrall. I had a problem with the lighting in the garage. In my opinion, shooting this scene more at night would give it a better look, since you had bright lights just shining at the main character. I also agree with the acting, though it was acceptable for this short film. Good job.
  19. I'm not showing the Priest the script, since it's about a Priest who molests alter boys and does drugs, and all that jazz. I did a restaurant movie a few weeks ago for my class, and shot at the restaurant I work at, and didn't tell the workers what it was about. The movie ended with an orgy scene and the whole film is very vulgar and sexual.
  20. Totally agree. Thought the film looked fantastic but the story just threw me off a lot.
  21. I plan on shooting an all B&W short film in the spring for my cinematography class. I'll be shooting in a church the whole time. I'm going to try and make it a film noir look. I plan on shooting in B&W to challenge myself and to experiment with something I'm not familiar with.
  22. My school switched to all HD this fall.
  23. Thanks for the offer. I've only been to Philadelphia very few times, but I'll keep your offer in mind. My roommates brother lives there and he visits often, maybe I'll have to join him for a free trip.
