  1. I've always been curious about the 'strobe' and 'TV sync' connections. Is one a frame-triggered output for eg., syncing a video tap? and the other an input for locking to a monitor? Just guessing.
  2. New battery in the mic? Right way round? If it's not phantom-powered it's likely battery-powered.
  3. Usual procedure for 120-240v switchable magnetic transformers is two primary windings in parallel for 120v, in series for 240.
  4. A powered USB hub and a bunch of flexible USB snakelights might be handy. Good for controlled tabletop stuff too.
  5. It's a pretty easy DIY. Lanternlock seems somewhat overengineered.
  6. 'Veiling' is the term for indirect light on the lens lowering contrast. An easy demonstration is to look through a heavy diffusion filter with a strong light source outside the field of view, but shining directly onto the filter. Shade it with your hand and the effect will become clear.
  7. Congo Blue in front of a 'cheap' HMI with inadequate UV filtering works really well as a UV source with less purple than tubes or mercury vapor UVs.
  8. Same sentiment here. We need more pro' contribution.
  9. Dressing room mirror lights are usually 30v so as not to present an electrocution danger if broken. It's unlikely you'll be able to swap them with an off-the-shelf bulb.
  10. They don't have lights? That part of the tech spec reads: Power Distribution Ten 50A three-phase outlets, star-earthed, for audio, in addition to a 200A tap-in supply onstage PS and two more 200A OB van supplies (with Powerlock connectors) in the stage basement. Sixty-eight 50A three-phase outlets distributed around the stage, fly-galleries and grid for lighting and automation, as well as two 400A, two 250A and two 60A tap-in supplies. The totally flexible lighting patch system can be readily adapted either to centralised or distributed dimmers, or a combination of the two. Lighting 25 x 3000 long battens wired for 6 ways each, can be hung on any lineset. 25 x 6-way multicores, patch to dimmer room via Gallery 2, OP side. Box booms PS & OP wired with 24 outlets each. All patch outlets and cabling are 10A. Prosc. booms PS & OP: no outlets installed. FoH bridge (fixed bar) above Grand Circle , 32 outlets. Throw to setting line: 21.500m, access by ladder from Grand Circle. Ethernet and LSC Isoport DMX system star-wired from dimmer room to all areas. The following lighting equipment is available by arrangement with the Technical Manager. 12 x Strand Harmony 16/28º profile spots 6 x CCT Silhouette 30º profile spots 18 x CCT Silhouette 10º profile spots 18 x CCT Silhouette 15º profile spots 12 x Strand Patt 263 22º profile spots 52 x PAR 64 MFL NB. Her Majesty's Theatre is currently not equipped with either dimmers or a lighting control desk. I expect they'd have at least 4 followspots, but a 10 degree Sil would do in a pinch. 1/2 blue eg. Lee 202 will give a coldness to the light without making it blue. Plenty of power. The dressing rooms should have batten lights around the mirrors, which are probably pretty low color temp (warm), and cream or white walls you could use for bounced soft light Backstage lighting in theatre is usually dim blue to minimise leaks to the stage. A location scout is in order I think.
  11. I'd suggest you put the subject of the topic in the subject line. Are you shooting in a theatre? If so, you may not need to bring in any lighting.
  12. You wouldn't need a flood. It would be simple matter to overload their 2Mb inbox @yahoo, hotmail, whatever, with a big email or two. You know it's full when your emails start bouncing back. All enquiries from suckers would bounce until it's emptied.
  13. I love that projection in mid-air, even if it gives away the depth of the rain. Thanks for the report.
  14. One of the Cokin P-series multi-image filters might do what you need. The holder can be rotated while shooting.
  15. Are you confusing an overcurrent circuit breaker with an earth leakage breaker?
  16. I rather liked 'The Anniversary Party' on DVD, didn't see it projected. The look was not at all obtrusive or innapropriate.
  17. I was delighted to see Neutrik come out with a D-sized 6 pin firewire socket, then undelighted because there isn't a corresponding line plug.
  18. Those look like only 0.25w resistors. Dropping 3v they'll be dissipating 0.6w each. You might want to up the rating or they'll bake in pretty short order. Can't answer whether the motor's okay on 12v though, sorry.
  19. There's a seal around the join. Give it a (gentle) whack with a hammer around the corners and it will give.
  20. You left out the PL-mount lenses. Are you going to rent?
  21. There's something mighty suspect about an XL1 for $300. I'm guessing it's from China, and the seller is 'not a registered user' or won't be in the next few days. You didn't win anything my friend.
