  1. I watched The Lighthouse (digital projection) when it came to Silicon Valley and was absolutely mesmerized. The depth of emotions conveyed by a grayscale was overwhelming, and visually haunting. My congratulations to Jarin Blaschke and Robert Eggers.
  2. Congrats David on the Emmy! Just returned recently from Paris and your show was being advertised all over the Metro.
  3. David, Thanks for the update! I've already done the survey, very excited about the P30 and the reversal.
  4. Another camera would be fantastic! I'd like to mention that I have several lenses from my Baulieus but none will fit a a camera with a front protrusion, like a front rotating mirror, due to the Beaulieu side tubes. They can be removed but the lens gears are then exposed, not ideal.
  5. That's an impressive amount of work! Many thanks for sharing the trailer.
  6. Thanks Greg for sharing both the trailer, and so many great insightful posts from behind-the-scenes on your work. Will not miss it.
  7. Fantastic! Thanks for sharing the good news and congratulations. Will be watching it for sure.
  8. I too sent in the form! Intrigued to see what's coming next from Kodak.
  9. The new Kodak camera will accept C-mount lenses, a great proposition in my opinion. Looking forward to them.
  10. Tom, thanks for sharing the Lumière manual. Impressive the level of sophistication from the very beginning and the depth of knowledge.
  11. Thanks David for the detailed info on black-levels for print film & digital projection. Will keep your info fresh in my mind when I go watch the digital projection show.
  12. Both prints I watched were truly beautiful as well (including the second one with the scratch over the 1st 10 seconds of the Overture). It was impressive to see how well film could withstand extreme lighting conditions, and yet return such visual complexity. Sound was superb on both prints.
  13. What a holiday season! Not only 2 great productions showing on film (Hateful Eight & Force Awakens) but now this. I hope this awesome Karma will keep coming! http://www.kodak.com/ek/us/en/Consumer/Products/Super8/default.htm?CID=go&idhbx=super8
  14. Saw the Roadshow twice and it was a fantastic event! First time at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, a 1920's historic, neighborhood theater. Got the tickets at an actual ticket booth and stood in line outside on the side walk as the line snaked around the corner. People were very excited, eagerly reading the program, and chatting with anyone in line. It was a packed house for the 3:45pm showing. Projection was beautiful, perfectly masked; the screen was insanely wide as the seats are very close to it. The print was impeccable. There was a small amount of jitter on the image which was clear during the Overture. ------ Second time was at a local Multiplex in a shopping center that had been shipped one of the projectors. The pre-show experience was very different since it simply feels like going to the mall, but it was none-the-less a positive one as it showed that there was an audience willing to go to the 70mm screening. The very young employees were aware of the film vs digital showings that were going on simultaneously, and that was a very positive sign. Anyway, Projection was very good, the print had a gorgeous, long, thick scratch on the top left during the first 10 seconds of the Overture. Everyone knew right then and there we were watching a real film. After that, it was a perfect print. Again, a little jitter clearly seen during the Overture. The screen was not masked at the bottom so the the image felt a bit misplaced, a minor annoyance. Overall a great experience given how rare this setting was. ------ As for the movie itself, every opinion is as good as any. So go watch it.
  15. Just hoping to see it in 70mm anywhere, I have a feeling that this might be a once-in-a-lifetime event...
  16. There's a note on the 12/15 issue of AC stating that, over the past year, 100 theaters nationwide have been retrofitted with 70mm projectors. In a nutshell, the projectors have all been refurbished, have new lenses and lamphouses, splicers were brought in, platters, everything. The show will be projected @ f2.8 to 3.2 for increased dof. The rest of the article is impressive, as it becomes clear what a monumental task it was to do this movie in UP70: cameras, lenses, editing tables were rebuilt, DI workflows developed, etc. What a wonderful story itself, worthy of a Docu!
  17. Really looking forward to the Hateful Eight. Haven't been to a 70mm premiere since Rollerball came to my town... Might have 2 screens nearby: Cinemark San Jose & AMC Mikado Santa Clara. Otherwise will fly to the closest 70mm screen!
  18. David, where can I send you a case of wine for generously sharing your wealth of knowledge? I still remember following all your posts on Manure...
  19. The smell that emanates after the cartridge foil is opened...
  20. Went today to see it in IMAX Digital (previously saw the IMAX print) but the projector refused to start so show was cancelled and we were issued refunds. It's been a very long time that a show was cancelled that I can recall.
  21. Saw the Interstellar print today at the San Jose Tech Museum IMAX. It was phenomenal both for its cinematography as human story, and the aspect ratio switching was a total surprise that actually worked very well, just a small hint at the vastness of space.
  22. Film Ferrania reached its goal! It's really exciting to see a new source of film.
  23. Fantastic news that certainly deserved my pledge! Looking forward to April 2015 and beyond.
