  3. Hi friends. I have an Arriflex 16BL with tobin TXM-15 sync that I tried to use today. Its worked many a times before in the past. Today I hit the button to shoot; and nothing happens. What the hell? I take the mag off to see if it was jammed or something; and more smoke than cheech and Chongs car came wafting out of the gear area. Gosh darn it. I take the motor housing off and I see this- 5amp blown fuse. Okay but where was the smoke coming from?? My inching knob is broken as well. Any suggestions? I have all the pieces. The motor still turns by hand, have yet to get the replacement DC fuse. Questions now 1. The motor shows 9,5V motor. I have a 12v 7.5mah battery. Direct leads to a power cable, to Tobin system. Am I over-powering the camera with this battery? Or does the tobin system have some sort of conversion from 12v to 9.5v for the motor? 2. What do you think was the cause of the smoking? Upon inspection of what I could disassemble, I see no melted resistors or plastic or wires, etc. see pictures. 3. Suggestions on replacement of the inching knob? **** pictures to come****

  5. Hi everyone! I have an upcoming shoot where we need to have a 180° rotation (around the lens axis) It´s a short film with very low budget so expensive options such as Cartoni Lambda Head or Weaver Steadman are not going to be posible We´re shooting on an Arri SRII with Zeiss Primes T1.3 Any thoughts on a low budget solution? Thanks in advance! Joaquin
  6. Does anybody happen to know where I might be able to find a working 400' magazine for an Eclair ACL II? I haven't been able to really find any on ebay recently. Thanks!
  7. Hello, Newly graduated cinematography student is looking to buy Bolex camera (SB, SBM, EL) at a reasonable price. I'm interested in S16, but because of budget send me message if you have regular 16 Bolex  Or veeeeery cheap Arriflex SR2. Location: Belgrade, Serbia (but I have friend of mine in Berlin, Germany) PM.
  8. Hello, Does anyone know of a camera technician in Los Angeles who works on 16mm cameras, specifically Eclair NPR and Beaulieu? I need someone to remove the ground glass, mark it (with a pencil is fine), and replace it in an Eclair NPR camera that's already been (partially) modified to super 16mm. The eyepiece has an issue as well, where one side of the frame is cut off, I assume because of the lens re-centering in the super 16 conversion. The image on my test reel looks great, but my framing was off because of the inaccurate ground glass markings and eyepiece problem. Also, I have a Beaulieu 16mm clockwork camera and need to figure out why my focusing has been occasionally off even though I've got the eyepiece diopter calibrated - at least the way I think it needs to be calibrated. I'm looking for a camera technician in Los Angeles who would go over the camera with me and possibly convert it to Ultra 16mm. The Eclair has been to Bernie O'Dougherty who gave it a clean bill of health, but he was too swamped to do mark the ground glass. The cameras and I are in Los Angeles. Thanks for reading and considering this! -Roko (brand new member)

    Fuji REALA 8692

Hey! I've got a box full of Fuji Reala 500D I know is expired.. but I can't seem to find any info on the can or online with regards to the actual date of expiry. Any help? Thanks!
  10. Hi all, wondering if anyone has any insights on this problem I'm having. I got my hands on an Xtera that's been in storage for 5+ years, and while its in darn good condition its got one weird problem - attaching the battery results in the camera instantly running. The test/run wheel's position seems irrelevant to this behavior. I've swapped the body fuses, but theres no change in this behavior. Im using the only battery that will actually charge, attached the VHR shows the battery at 13.7v Anyone ever experienced this or something similar and have any insights? Any chance Im doing something dumb and not realizing it?
  11. I recently received a Rex 5 for a shoot. I have my own h16 reflex and have had no problems loading it. The rex5, however, doesn't seem to want to take the film maybe I'm doing something wrong? Need some help ASAP as my shoot is in a week. Cheers The spool seems to just jam and not thread the film through unless I add a bit of pressure onto the loop formers do I perhaps need to adjust them? If so how would I do this?
  12. I have some questions regarding at home Spiral Tank processing. I have been mixing 2 litres of chemistry for 100' rolls of color reversal(ORWO/Svema & Kodak E-6) and, just recently, color negative(ECN-2) 16mm film. After running the first devloper, the solution is sometimes black and seems to effect the image of the bottom 50' layer of film (dark and muddy). Should I only run 50' at a time at the top spiral? Should agitation be constant to mix chemistry, or maybe try to filter the developer before running the other 50'? You advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  13. Hey guys, I'm looking to buy some original Kodak A-wind film for my A Minima. Alternatively I would also buy the plastic spools which came with the film, I'd need 4 of them.
  14. Hello, It seems I can't attach my 400ft mag bolex motor to the mag. Position is correct (with the motor cable pointing to the mag) but even pressing strongly the motor remains unlocked and I am not able to turn clockwise. Are there two versions of motors or some part is missing from mine? I attach pictures of both. Marcos
  15. For all the editors who are hiding out in this forum  ....I was wondering if film is actually cheaper to once you got to post than video. Specifically, can you outline the difference in workflow between a Super16mm workflow vs shooting in 4k(or even 2k) and finishing on the accepted digital projection format(or 35mm)? My guess is that film would come out a bit cheaper and easier to manage for the beginner. Quite counter-intuitive I know, but digitial non-linear editing appears to be a black hole which swallows all of your budget.$10K! I'm betting that a 10:1 shooting ratio on Super16, comes out cheaper than a shoot-it-'til-people-threaten-to-leave:1 shooting ratio on video. Can anyone comment on this?
  16. I know this is going to sound dumb, but I have an Eclair NPR camera and I cannot find the serial number on it. I removed the motor, I looked all over the place and I couldn't find it. This specific unit was modified by Les Bosher, so they may have removed the plate or something. They changed the tourret and maybe the serial number was there. I want to send the camera to service and it would be nice to know what the serial number is so I can have more info about the camera. Thanks

  18. I have a box of (6500 feet) discontinued properly-stored Fuji Reala 16mm 500Daylight film. LOOKING FOR LOCAL TORONTO, CANADA SALES!!!! Will entertain shipping bulk. Was used to shoot ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and WALK THE LINE... The World’s First Motion Picture Film with Fujifilm’s 4th Color Layer Fuji Reala 500D is the world’s only 500-speed daylight-balanced negative film. Its high speed allows shooting in very low-light daylight and also at f-stops offering greater depth of field. Its speed compensates for the wider apertures required with anamorphic lenses and the effective light loss attendant on “over-cranking” for slow motion effects. This is the world’s only film with Fujifilm’s patented color optimized 4th layer technology. A special advantage is the ability to remove “green spike” from un-corrected fluorescent and sodium lighting mixed with daylight sources.

Naturally my choice of stocks are limited to Kodak, and for production purposes 250D would be my best option. Now, really hate doing color correction and DI. I dont like doing it myself, and I dont want to pay to get a colorist to do it for me. I am wondering, how accurate are the colors of 250D, raw out of the stock? What sort of work would I have to do in post to make them accurate. Are there options for me in filtration to normalize the stock? My thought process is, that I want the stock to have an accurate color baseline for me to modify to fit my story. I am looking for a warm, medium contrast, and slightly diffused look. Something in between George Washington (2000) and The Long Goodbye (1973). For this, my idea of was to shoot with some TLS Rehoused Super Baltars, and apply a Tiffen Warm Black Pro-Mist 1/4. What do you think

  24. Nice to be able to use equipment like the One-Man-Crew from Red Rock Micro & my Ultra16 Scoopic MS on a music video shoot this weekend. There are so many great tools out there with the DSLR "revolution" but it's fun to use them with film cameras too. This One-Man-Crew is the original version but I've used it with an SR2 before. I plan to do the upgrade to handle heavier cameras.
  25. Hello all, I'm in the market for a super 16mm camera package. I've seen an SR3 highspeed at Visual Products but it is slightly over my budget (it's 8500$) Interested in seeing your super 16 cameras if you have one! Thanks -William
