  9. I've seen that you can only rent the Alexa 65 through their Arri Rental network. Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the rental costs are? I'm thinking they must be ginormous right now, but i'm really wondering.
  10. Hi! I'm downscaling my Super 16-kit and it's time to let go of these beautiful lenses. First got them to use with an Ikonoskop A-cam dII but lately I've used them for s16 film cameras (Arri Sr2, Aaton a-minima and Arri 416). Actually also tried them on a Gh4 (with mft-pl-adapter) and from 12mm and up they cover the sensor in 4k mode. They are in really good mechanical and optical condition. Some paint wear on the housings but all focus marks and text is clearly visible. So what I've got is: Zeiss Super Speed mkII Super 16mm lenses. All T1.3. 9,5mm, 12mm, 25mm and 50mm. Will sell individual lenses or all at once. I'm hoping to get a deal done quickly so first come first served (hope that's the correct english expression for it…).   12. Hi there everyone! greetings. I had sent my Arriflex SR3 for repairs at Arri NY. They did work on it and sent it back. I had barely shot 7-8 400ft cans and the same problem emerged again. I had paid close to $1000 for service and shipping. Does anyone think I need to be paying again for the same job to be worked again on? Don't they stand and vouch for their workmanship? I want opinions and experiences of cinematographers who own gear and have gone through these type of problems. thanks
  13. I cracked the mirror shutter on my SR3 and have been having a hell of a time trying to find a new one. I did locate an SR2 mirror shutter so I thought I might be able to take off the mirror and replace the cracked SR3 mirror. I'm not talking about the whole mechanism, just the mirror. Does anyone know if those two mirrors are compatible? They appear to be the same, but I've had difficulty finding exact specs on either.
  14. Hi all. I am 4th cinematography student. I am about to shoot a short commercial on s16. I have shot on film a few times before but I would like hear other opinions on how best to a achieve a cold daylight look on film. Basically the story is that a couple wakes up very early in their city apartment and leaves for the countryside. I want the piece to start off very cold looking in their apartment and then gradually get warmer as they leave the city in their car and arrive in the country. I have only one roll to shoot this piece on. It's a thirty second ad so that should be loads of stock. Bug that brings into question how I can get a varying level of "coldness" on the one roll. I will be shooting on Kodak 200t 7213. My initial thought is to shoot the grey card with an 85 in. The remove that for the early scenes. Then later for the car scenes to use a 81ef so a slightly warmer, but still cold look. Then finally for the countryside scenes to put the 85 back in. Does this seem like a good plan to achieve what I am looking for? Very open to suggestions and opinions, or indeed any help at all. Thanks.

Hey guys, I've loved The Leftovers since season 1, but season 2 has just aired its second episode and I remain stunned by the cinematography, which is now done by Michael Grady (Todd McMullen for most of season 1). It's shot on the Alexa, but it looks SO distinct from everything and anything else I've seen shot on the Alexa, it feels like there's some kind of film grain added because there's a very real and vivid texture to the image, a real patina, the colors pop, but not in a harsh digital way, it doesn't look overly digital, it just really stands out, the lighting also looks beautiful, very colorful. I know they use Primos on this, but I wonder what anyone else think about this, any idea on the film grain or the look they're getting? I'm a film guy mainly, and the only stuff that impressed me on digital so far has been Skyfall, Prisoners, Sicario, A Most Violent Year (yet to see Selma, shot by Bradford Young as well), Drive, Elysium, The Social Network, Gone Girl, Her, Nightcrawler, The Revenant and The Leftovers.
  23. Hi everyone, i am in pre-production for the short film we will be shooting in Caucasus mountains this winter. We are shooting 35mm 5222 black and white film, and i want to get Hawk anamorphic lenses with 2x squeeze from Paris. The camera they have in a local rental is Arri 435 Xtreme (4 perf). I'm in touch with the local AC and what he says is that the camera doesn't have an anamorphic viewfinder, also it does not have anamorphic matte glass and arri glow. I'm trying to figure out how to solve this issue, maybe somebody can help me out? If the lens squeezes the image into 4:3 academy frame - then what should be the matte glass/ground glass/ gate installed inside of the camera? And if it doesn't have an anamorphic viewfinder (we are shooting steadicam anyway) - can i get an unsqueezed image on the monitor and playback just through the monitor? I would appreciate any tips and help. Thanks
  24. Hi, I have a music video shoot and we're currently deciding cameras. I prefer the look of the Alexa and want to push the Mini as we're mostly on steadicam. However we have a lot of strobe lighting during a performance sequence, making the Dragon with motion mount seem like the right way to go. Is the Studio the only option for choosing Alexa when dealing with strobes? We're shooting a range of speeds, ramping from 24 to 60fps. Thanks, Chris
