Jonathan O'Neill
Just wondering where you guys find your work mostly? Through directors, producers, production managers etc? And does this differ for music videos, commercials, short films, features? How much is it through referrals vs you approaching them? What do you find best works for drumming up work? a great reel, awards, mass emailing, physical mailers, in person ‘networking’...?Cheers
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted June 2, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted June 2, 2016 Being the offspring of a rich, well-connected TV producer is usually the best way. Unfortunately that's hard to arrange after the fact! P
Brian Drysdale
You have to build up contacts, go to the events they go to, get involved with people in an area of interest by knocking on their door so they meet you. It takes time, easier to if you're assist camera than a DP because you can work for more people.

Jan Tore Soerensen
Most of the work I have gotten from doing cold calls and approaching businesses in person. Naturally, I get some work from the contacts I make that way.

JD Hartman
That makes no sense. Maybe he'd like his children to have a job or career that provides: steady income; fixed place of work; paid benefits; environmental controls and comfortable workplace; company matching 401k retirement.:
Jan Tore Soerensen
What he would like for his children, really doesn't matter. What matters is what they want. You can't live your life on other peoples opinions, even if they are your parents.

Now, one member is telling another how to raise his kids?!... It's called cinemotgraphy.com for a reason. Keep the threads & posts within acceptable parameters, please. Michael LaVoie
For the DP position, in everyone's personal experience, has that recommendation that got you the gig come from a: Director UPM Producer / E.P. 1st A.D. Production Coordinator Have you noticed a difference as to which position reaches out to you when the job was: Commercial Reality TV Scripted TV Feature Narrative / Feature Doc Corporate / Industrial

I'm not even to the slightest telling anyone how to raise their kids. It was a general comment, not aimed at anyone in particular. I am sorry if that was misunderstood. Max Field
If you wish to work online, build a following surrounding the projects you produce on your own. Turn heads by yourself and others will want a piece in exchange for cash money dollar bills (through Paypal).
